Possibly some regression along with fatigue. Hopefully the all star break gives these guys some much needed rest. There's no doubt the Sox need more pitching. A starter (or two) and a bullpen arm. Fedde and Kay should hold up well and be able to eat a lot of innings. Martin and Burke will probably end up being somewhat inning limited. Shultz will definitely be limited. Picking up a good SP along with another veteran who can eat innings would help a lot. And one more quality arm for the bullpen would be great.

I too am relatively uninformed. Much of what I know about the top guys I read here. I still think the Sox will take Roch and deal with the logjam in the middle infield when the time comes. It's a good problem to have, and if they're serious about contending, they could deal one of the MI guys for a controllable pitcher. HS picks at number one make me nervous. Granted I don't know much about Emerson, but I feel picking him has more bust potential.

Not a well-played game at all, but we'll take the win. The announcers (including Steve Stone doing a national game) were talking about the pitchers being affected by the delay, fake start time, and second delay, but it seemed like the defenders were affected more. Sloppy play, brain farts, etc. But, these are the type of games they need to win. And they did. When I saw Hicks warming up, I was like "oh s%*#." Luckily they kept Newcomb in, and he threw like 8 pitches and shut the door.

Posting about how Dominguez can't close games or how the bullpen overall is lacking or Venable's use of Colson at 3rd or even how bad an owner JR is are current issues that are not positive. These are the things we should be talking about, and rightfully so. This original post is seemingly old news, talking about conditions that have most likely improved greatly. And the "data" is bad with an extremely small sample size. It reeks of "things are going well, and I don't like that, so here, read this!" We should be talking about the good and the bad...in the present and future. Everything is not all roses and sunshine. There's plenty to discuss about what still needs to improve. We already lived through the dark ages of terrible teams - on and off the field.

First, there's something to be said about sample size. Anyone with even basic knowledge of statistics could tell you the results of this "poll" are not worth taking seriously. Plus, who did they survey? Players who now play with the Sox? From a few years ago? Second, this current team looks to be all in for each other and the team. If you were to interview these guys, you'd probably get a much more positive picture. Third, what's the point of posting something like this when things are FINALLY going well? We've all been miserable Sox fans for the past 3+ years. Let's actually embrace that the team is winning, and it's a team of really likable players. Enough with finding things to be miserable about, especially when it's something stupid like this.

Top prospects can be a loose term here. They can trade out of their top 25 and have their top 5 or so off limits. They could easily add a veteran starting pitcher that isn't committed beyond 2026 and not give up much.

I really don't understand using Dominguez last night, especially after blowing a save the day before. He's just not closer material. He better have bought WHATEVER Antonacci wanted for dinner last night.

Of all the things listed here, my biggest issue is Dominguez crapping down his leg...again. There were two outs with a runner on first. A good closer pitches over that.

If Colson played for the Yankees, he'd probably hit 100 homeruns in a season. He seemed to barely hit those balls last night that ended up being homeruns. That short porch is ridiculous.

He's only pleased because they are selling more tickets. That's all he cares about.

At this point, it's hard NOT to believe. They just won two series against two of the best teams in baseball without Mune and Teel. The offense will just get better when they come back. The pitching still needs some help. Another quality starter and some fortification of the bullpen would be great. I really think these guys are feeding off each other's energy. I think that's one reason why they are playing better than just about everyone thought they would.

This team is amazingly fun to watch and damn exciting. I've been a fan since moving to the area in 1999, and this might be the most exciting team I've watched. Obviously the 2005 team was something else, but the youth of this team along with how likeable they are is great. They beat one of the best teams in baseball with the bats one day and with pitching the next. When Mune comes back, there's going to be A LOT of power in this lineup.

Yeah, but compared to JR, Ishbia might be the Pope.

Time will tell. It's early. Cleveland is 5-5 in their last 10 but 12-8 in their last 20. The Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 and 11-9 in their last 20. Cleveland is the better team and has the better chance to win the division. But right now, the Sox are playing about as well as them.

I think they have a better chance to win the division than a wild card. The AL Central is bad, and I don't see any team (the Sox included) going on a tear and breaking away from the pack. There are probably enough other teams in the AL that will start playing better and possibly add at the trade deadline to get a wild card. All that said, I'm not sure the Sox are quite there to be a playoff team, or at least not a team that would go anywhere in the playoffs. As you said, there are still holes. And this is a young team that will likely be streaky. They could do some minor adding at the deadline, but I don't see anything dramatic happening.

TA certainly had some injury issues, but his personal life was a mess and that carried over to the field. He became less of a shadow of his formal self. Starting a flight, and then promptly getting KO'd didn't help matters.

It's actually okay to love the team, appreciate the job Getz and Venable have done, AND think JR is a bad owner. This team, that still has a very low payroll, is playing very well because of the players and coaches. JR had to be convinced to take a no-brainer gamble on Murakami, and look what happened. He has even more money to roll around in while scheming ways to not spend it. I would say Venable is getting A LOT out of the team he has. There's talent, for sure, but it's young, raw talent for the most part. The few veterans sprinkled in are helping on and off the field. Grichuk fit right in, Benintendi (despite being bad at baseball) seems to be well liked, Hill is having the time of his life, and Kay is helping a young pitching staff. Don't overlook the fact that the culture of this team has been completely overhauled with the last of the *ahem* problems traded away during the off season. And I firmly believe that Murakami has been a huge part in bringing this team together. It's amazing that a guy with limited English and Spanish fits in so well and already seems to be a leader in the clubhouse. Venable will get a lot of credit, deservedly so, but this group of players is so tight and truly seem to like each other. That, along with the growing talent, is producing an exciting team to watch.

This seems to be a big difference from previous years' teams. Of course, they were almost always playing teams better than them, but they seemed to lose more games to crappy teams and occasionally play well against good teams. The 2026 Sox have been steadily decent to good and are for the most part beating bad teams. If the team keeps playing like this, they have a chance to play .500ish ball in June and be near the top of the (bad) devision.

It was really nice to see Sandlin not get flustered after the lead-off home run. He didn't just brush it off, he completely shut down the Twins after that. It has been so long since the Sox had a player as exciting as Murakami. He's exceeding pretty much all expectations, and you know there are multiple teams kicking themselves. By the way, how did he hit a 432 foot opposite field home run with such a casual swing? How about Meidroth with the power? What a great win. Let's hope they saved a few runs for the final game.

I don't think there was anyone who didn't see that coming. Looks like a bad trade for both parties. The Sox at least dumped the salary and have a maybe in Pauley.

Maybe we should be less concerned with his bunting ability and more about the fact that he was asked to bunt with two strikes.

As well as this team is playing and surprising many, I'm not sure they will be in a position to consider adding at the deadline. Nor do I think they'll be sellers. I could see a few minor trades, maybe to add a starting pitcher. But I'd hate to see them trade some of the future for a moderate upgrade for the near future.
