Regarding Robin V, two noted posters said I was wrong about the Sox offering RV $7MM per year. I think it was was for three years, but still $7MM per yr. I hope my memory isn't going completely. Is anyone else old enough to remember? I still stand on my thesis that the current Maggs situation is nothing like Ventura's. Maggs is ten times the player that Ventura was, and he did have a lousy attitude his last year with us, and JR did not have the ovaries to dump RV for prospects like he did in the White Flag deal, and RV did demand Matt Williams money, and there was no way he was coming back to the Sox.

What's the over/under on how many days until GeorgieBoy blows a gasket?

If Robin Ventura gets released this year, do you think Bevington would try to sign him?

Designated for Assignment by BoSox.

For those Robin Ventura lovers out there, we offered him $7MM per year, but he insisted on "Matt Williams money." f*** him. He wasn't worth it then, and he's not worth it now. Robin was pissed off at the Sox and their manager and was ready to leave. Our mistake was in not trading him in mid-season of his last year, but the Sox did not have the guts because of the White Flag deal that had just happened, and all the criticism that followed. He had a s***ty attitude the last year with us; it was time for him to leave, and we still offered him $7 Large per year. There is no parallel between Robin's situation and Maggs'.

Good job, Bob Dylan. Lay, lady, lay.

I could only "listen" to the game on the internet, and after the first guy or two got on, I didn't think we had a prayer to get out of the inning. If we had had a ten run lead, we would have blown it. The first out in the ninth is super important for the reliever, and Ozzie has to find someone who can get that out. Otherwise we will be 0-6 when we come home, and I think the Sox' psyche is too fragile to survive it. We gagged last year in KC, and it was deja vu all over again. Next game is a big game.

Kenny has a few more skeletons in his closet: such as not having the ovaries to fire JM last year; not only trading for Koch but then giving him $12 MM over two yrs; Berry/Barry; overpaying for Konerko and Clayton; all of his mid-season trades last summer, except for Jiminez; and not firing JM last year, or did I mention that?
-
Jason, hypothetically speaking, if the Sox had not made those ill-advised (polite word for stupid) trades last July, where would you rank mssrs. Rupe and Ring?
-
If given the opportunity Koch will blow game after game, just like last year. Marte??? I don't know what happened to him. I think if the Sox had a ten run lead, they would have blown it.
-
Dodgers got him. Gave up a decent propect for him. Wonder what the first words will be with La Duca.
-
If Konerko starts off helpless and hopeless as he did last year, I jist hope Ozzie doesn't stick with for three months the way what'shisname did.
-
Rex, did Gonzalez' poor hitting in 2003 cause the attitude problem, or did the attitude problem cause his sub par stats last year?
-
I'm glad Anderson and Sweeney jumped at least one level of A ball. I would not be surprised if one or both get kicked up to Rex's country in mid-summer.

Hey, Nuke: I was unaware that Alomar and Verett saved our season. Please tell me your tongue was in your cheek. This team has to get off to a fast start, certainly better than last year's start. Every year at least one team starts winning and surprises everyone. Might as well be us. Maggs, Lee, Crede, and Rowand should all get off to good starts, we have some speed, and if Koch implodes again this year like he did last year, I don't think Ozzie will be so stupid and keep throwing him out there with the game on the line the way Jerry did. Can't wait.
-
Speaking of relievers, how and why did Mike Jackson make the team? Now, I admit he is not as bad as Koch, but he has had really bad stretches of s***ty pitching in the past. I ldon'at think we can survive two pitchers with ERA's over 5. Maybe that's why we have 12 pitchers.

One year with the Sox and we'll know if Uribe has it or not.
-
Name someone who has shown a better knowledge of the strike zone in the last 10-15 years. Than Barry. Nocando.

These obviously include Anderson and Sweeney. Then maybe King, Nanita, Honel. and a couple of others. I think we should rush them through the minors faster than the traditional White Sox five year plan. Those top two look to be special. I would move then both right up to AA until they prove they can't handle it. What do you guys think? Rex??? At least you could scout them them yourownself.

1. Cub fans are stupid; 2. People who read the Sun-Times and really get into their journalism are stupid; 3. The publishers of the Sun-Times are smart. These simple facts should explain everything. Don't sweat it, Sox fans. We just need to get off to a good start. Then, everything changes. Maggs, Rowand, Harris, and Crede will get off to good starts, unlike last year, and everything will take care of itself.

Will someone please tell me when Schaffer is ticketed for the bigs. Rex????
-
Prediction: He will beat out Jose and be the regular SS by the end of April. Does anyone really believe Jose can hit above .225 this year? Not I. Living in Colorado, I have seen Uribe play a lot the last three years. This kid is talented. Fantastic arm, super fast hands, speed, live bat. Plus he always starts out fast before he gets his annual case of the stupids. He is a classic case of being brought to the majors too soon == straight from A ball, because the Rocks didn't want to pay Naeffi Perez. I think Ozzie will be perfect for him. He'll help him mature, grow up, etc. Uribe and Harris can be a great combo. Of course, Ozzie first has to have the guts to bench Jose.

Rex. I'm just waiting for the season to get started. Jim

And don't forget, we gave up a great young pitching prospect for him -- Bittner, who is on the 40 man roster of the Angels, don't know if he made the team or not. But at least we get to pick up Schoeny's salary. Bittner will probably be in AAA this yr, let's watch him.

Tks.
