  8. A Pardeeville man was issued a citation for disorderly conduct Wednesday after allegedly forcing his 7-year-old son to wear a Green Bay Packers jersey during the divisional playoff game last weekend. Matthew Kowald, 36, pleaded no contest Wednesday to disorderly conduct after he was released from the Columbia County Jail. He received a fine of $186. Columbia County District Attorney Jane Kohlwey said there was not enough evidence against Kowald to support felony charges. The Columbia County Sheriff's Department said the boy refused to wear a Packers jersey during the Green Bay game against Seattle, so Kowald restrained him with duct tape for about an hour and taped the jersey to him. The boy's mother reported the incident Monday, the sheriff's department said.

  14. More than five and a half years after a third season was last discussed, ABC is resurrecting The Mole—but without celebrity contestants or either of its first two hosts, Anderson Cooper and Ahmad Rashad. The new series will air this summer and will feature a “simplified” format, according to its producer. “Casting and pre-production have begun on the show, which will likely start shooting later this spring,” Variety reports. No casting notices have yet been posted on ABC’s site or elsewhere, but the show will be produced by Stone & Co. Entertainment, which is led by one half of the producing pair (Stone Stanley) that produced the earlier versions. The exact changes that will be made to the format are unclear, but executive producer Scott Stone said, “We simplified it to where the people at home can play along. And the quiz will be much shorter than in the past.” (During its first two seasons, the series was criticized—mostly by critics with small, useless brains—for being complicated and difficult to follow. Considering Survivor’s strategic complexity and popularity, that argument made little sense.) Scott Stone says, “If anyone asks me what my favorite show has been, I’ve answered ‘The Mole.’ … And it perennially ends up on lists of people’s favorite reality shows. That kept the fires burning inside me.” I LOVE THE MOLE!!!!!!
  15. TOM Cruise has been slammed in a new unauthorised biography which claims his daughter Suri was sired by the head of the Church of Scientology and Cruise himself has become second in command. Author Andrew Morton – the biographer of Princess Diana - claims Scientology has taken over the 45-year-old actor's life, with its officials selecting many of the staff at his Hollywood mansion, according to the UK’s Daily Mail. The shocking book also compares 20-month-old daughter Suri to the Devil's child in the film Rosemary's Baby, born by sperm donation from Scientology's dead founder, L. Ron Hubbard. Scientology leader David Miscavige is said in the book to have gone to extraordinary lengths to charm Cruise, even ordering his staff to plant a field full of wild flowers at a Scientology base in California after Cruise had told him of his fantasy to run through a wildflower meadow with his then newlywed wife Nicole Kidman. According to Morton's book, Miscavige even joined him on honeymoon in the Maldives after his wedding to Katie Holmes in 2006. Not surprisingly, Cruise denies each of the claims, and Scientology lawyers are believed to be drawing up a lawsuit seeking $113 million (£50 million) in compensation from Morton's publishers, St Martin's Press. Cruise's lawyer and close confidante Bert Fields gave a rare interview to The Mail on Sunday to pour scorn on Morton's book, titled Tom Cruise: An Unauthorised Biography.
  16. you know wher you read stuff like Brit blowing off custody hearings and such stuff, i wonder if, as a celeb, she thinks that she is above the law or if she is reverting to some form of rebellious childhood and really doesn't realize how much trouble she is getting herself into. either way.....it's a sad thing to watch.
  17. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 09:44 PM) Boers and Bernstein, correct ? Did they ask him if he was on HGH/Steriods during his 35 HR season before getting off last season (down to 22 HR) ??? That's what they were speculating for a minute or two yesterday as well as comparing him to a slightly better version of Aaron Rowand. IIRC Swish did most of his batting in the 2 hole which would put him right ahead of E. Chavez who didn't have a great year last year (killed a fantasy team of mine) and because of that he said he wasn't seeing alot of 2-0 fastballs that he hit out the year before. Probably never know if that is the real reason or not but it sounds plausible to me.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) Alright, a Gio and Ring comparison is quite ridiculous. I'm not Gio's biggest fan but those two aren't even comparable. I"m not comparing Gio and Ring talentwise...but comparing what was said about each when they were traded. I admit, i don't follow the minors that closely but when Royce was traded i thought we were trading away a future All-star with the doom and gloom reaction of some on this board. It's the same now with Gio and/or DLS. These guys are prospects until they do something in the majors. Swisher has done something in the majors (both good and bad). At least with Swisher we can see what we are getting. Gio lead the minors in K's this year if i read that right but that doens't mean he's gonna come up and tear up the AL when he comes up. He might..but we don't know.
  19. QUOTE(Elgin Slim @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) I absolutely despise this trade. KW talks about these guys as being too much to give up for Cabrera and then trades them for Swisher? That is bulls***. The Sox needed to be doing what the As and Marlins are doing, stockpiling prospects and trading away overpriced veterans. I don't know if Swisher can even play CF, meaning that the Quentin trade was stupid. The Sox will be challenging the 1962 Mets for worst team ever in 2010. There is no one, at the moment, in the minors that is ready to play in the majors. None. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Nein. Aaron Poreda is an injury waiting to happen. I doubt Lance Broadway will do anything at in the majors once he faces a team other than the Royals. Most of the guys that project to be major leaguers are HS guys who were drafted in 2007, meaning they are at least 3 years away. KW is on crack, acid or needs to be put in the looney bin if he had any hope or prayer of the Sox competing before 2010 before this trade, because Detroit and Cleveland are that much better than us. Now, we'll be lucky if we're competing by 2013. Here's to 5 seasons in last place. I still love the Sox and will support them through this terrible play, but I hope that JR sees the light and fires KW before he runs the franchise into the ground, to the point that we're the laughingstock of MLB. Hell, the Marlins will compete before us. IIRC two of the sticking points in the Cabrera trade was that the Marlins were looking for a catching prospect which we didn't have to offer and they wanted...no....they insisted that Willis be included in the trade. Ozzie who saw and worked with Willis didn't like what he saw over the last year of two and said he didn't want any part of Dontrelle. With just those two points...the deal was dead.
  20. QUOTE(JPN366 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 09:32 PM) Gio is the nicest guy ever, period. Plus, a great pitcher. I like Nick Swisher a lot, but you guys will regret losing Gio down the line. Now, how many guys from the White Sox system last year are now in Oakland's system? 9? 10? i think the same was said when Royce Ring was traded. He then went on to be traded 3 or 4 more times that season IIRC. Sox traded him twice in the last few years and Phillies got him and gave him back so mabye his sh*t isn't as good as everyone thinks it is.
  21. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) why'd we trade for quentin then? Couldn't answer that one for ya' but i think if the chance was there to get Figgins.....you should go get Figgins. Figgins>>>>>>Quentin
