QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) Are these people kidding? If a cop shouldn't be allowed to shoot a suspect when that suspect has a real looking gun in his hand, when can he shoot one? http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-teen09.html but don't you know....the evil Chicago Police like to use Cabrini Green residents as target practice.

ACLU questions hurricane memorial CHALMETTE, La. -- The American Civil Liberties Union is objecting to plans for a hurricane memorial in St. Bernard Parish that will feature a cross bearing a likeness of the face of Jesus. In a letter to the parish, Louisiana ACLU Executive Director Joe Cook said the plan violates the constitutional standards of church-state separation because the memorial would be located on a public waterway. Cook asked the parish to erect a religiously neutral symbol. But Parish President Henry "Junior" Rodriguez said he sees nothing improper about the memorial, which will be mounted near the shoreline of the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet at Shell Beach. The cross and accompanying monument listing the names of the 129 parish residents who died in Hurricane Katrina will be put on private land and are being financed with donations, Rodriguez said. The Parish Council voted several months ago to erect a monument, but at the time did not offer specific plans. The parish recently announced plans to dedicate the memorial on Aug. 29, the one-year anniversary of hurricane. The stainless steel cross will be 13 feet tall and seven feet wide and will be lighted. Rodriguez and others like the idea of putting the monument along the banks of the MRGO, because that waterway, dug by the federal government as a shipping shortcut in the 1960s, is widely blamed for much of the deadly flooding that accompanied Hurricane Katrina. Over the years erosion has widened the outlet, so the bank on which the cross will be erected is on privately owned land, Rodriguez said. The ACLU believes a storm memorial is appropriate, but the parish's plan is "still all very questionable," Cook said. "I think there is official government involvement with the endorsement and advancement of this clearly religious symbol," Cook said. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If it's on private land and built with donations i don't see the problem. I'm not sure i see where the "goverment involvement" is in all of this unless maybe the local goverment granted a permit or something for the structure. Unreal.

Former Huey Lewis bassist pleads not guilty to drug charges Mario Cipollina may not want a new drug anytime soon. The founding member of Huey Lewis and the News with a history of law enforcement troubles pleaded not guilty Monday to felony counts of heroin and methamphetamine possession. Cipollina, 51, the former bass player for the band, was being held in the Marin County jail without bail because the charges violated the terms of his probation for previous felony burglary and petty theft convictions, said Deputy District Attorney Linda Witong. Cipollina was due back in court on Aug. 21. He could face more than four years in prison if convicted, Witong said. Sheriff's investigators allegedly found small amounts of the drugs in Cipollina's pocket during a random probation search at his home in Santa Venetia, said Sgt. Jerry Jones. His probation stemmed from an August 2004 arrest for stealing about $5,500 worth of radio control cars from a San Anselmo store. While searching his residence, police allegedly found two automatic weapons, including an M-60 machine gun. Felony gun possession charges were later dismissed. In September 1996, he was arrested after Novato police found heroin, methamphetamine, a knife and a revolver in his possession during a traffic stop. Cipollina played with the Huey Lewis and the News during its heyday in the 1980s, when it posted a string of 17 top-ten hits, including "The Power of Love,""Hip To Be Square" and I Want A New Drug." He left the News in 1994. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- say what you like but i was always a big Huey Lewis and the News fan. This makes me sad..

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) 2005[/url] and QUOTE It's time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be the commander in chief for three more critical years and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation's peril. Do you have a problem with that statement? That is probably the most level-headed thing a politician has said this decade.

Double dare for Howard from Opie and Anthony Radio morning show hosts Opie and Anthony yesterday escalated their verbal attack - some might say publicity stunt - against Howard Stern by daring him to get them kicked off CBS' "Late Show With David Letterman." Monday, on his Sirius Satellite Radio show, Stern said he had a chance to stop Opie and Anthony (who are heard on WFNY-FM and XM Satellite Radio) from appearing on Letterman later this month - but didn't. Stern said he got a call from someone at Letterman's show three weeks ago, and suggested if he wanted, they wouldn't be booked. He said he didn't care, and would continue to go on Letterman whether O&A did or not. However, Opie (Gregg Hughes) and Anthony (Cumia) yesterday challenged Stern to actually stop their appearance. "Howard does this all the time," Cumia said. "He says things that can never be confirmed, there's no accountability. We are telling Howard, go ahead, put his foot down, if he can get us taken off Letterman, do it." "We dare you," Hughes added. "He's so full of crap." A Letterman spokeswoman confirmed the radio duo would be on the show Aug. 31. She could not confirm Stern's claims, saying Letterman's show is not in production this week or next. There's no doubt Stern is a friend of the Letterman camp, having drawn huge ratings every time he's appeared on the show during the past 20 years. As such, it's not inconceivable that someone may have tipped him off ahead of time to the O&A booking. That said, it would be highly unlikely Stern would meet O&A's challenge to upend their booking now, for a variety of reasons, notably, he'd look like a power-hungry creep. And to engage in the dialogue only plays into his competitors hands. A spokesman for Stern declined to comment. As for Stern, during a general discussion of morning radio yesterday, he said the one time he listened to O&A, they were ragging on him. Perhaps in the best assessment of the situation, Stern noted on his show yesterday that if Opie and Anthony wanted to talk about him, fine, it keeps his name top of mind. And by challenging him, Opie and Anthony also keep their names out there

Some friends and i used to hit Jimmy's in Chicago heights every once in a while. They didn't charge a cover and the girls were ok. Alcohol prices seemed pretty reasonable all things considered. i haven't been there in a while though....although i do remember 'private' dances costing about $10 a song. i've seen it around $20 at a few other places.

DUBLIN (Reuters) - It started as an April Fool's joke but an Irish bookmaker's proposal to hold the world's biggest strip poker contest will become reality next month. Paddy Power floated the idea as a joke but it generated so much interest -- and hundreds of requests to take part -- that the Dublin-based company decided to organise a contest. So next month, 200 poker buffs will risk baring all in an attempt to become the first World Strip Poker Champion -- and earn a place in the Guinness Book of Records. The winner will also receive a "Golden Fig Leaf" trophy plus 10,000 pounds in cash. "This will be the most fun you can have with your clothes on -- or off!" Paddy Power said in a statement for the tournament, which will be held in London on August 19.

take this for what it's worth...it's from the ESPN insider column..... Sori to the South Side? Jul 24 - A source told ESPN's Tim Kurkjian that a deal sending Alfonso Soriano to the White Sox is "extremely close." The package is expected to include 23-year-old right-hander Brandon McCarthy. The White Sox would then reportedly fill McCarthy's spot in the bullpen by making a separate trade with the Royals for Mike MacDougal. According to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, there were earlier rumblings that the Twins have involved in the Alfonso Soriano sweepstakes. Minnesota made a run at Soriano before last year's deadline. Twins GM Terry Ryan couldn't be reached Friday. But one of his peers said: "Terry is a 'tools' guy, and Soriano is a 'tools' player. So if they're out there talking on him, that wouldn't surprise me at all." The Tigers also remain in the thick of the race to acquire Soriano from the Nationals. But the two teams aren't close to completing a trade, according to a report in the Detroit News. The paper reports that the Tigers turned down an offer that would've landed Soriano in Detroit. In the proposed deal, the Nationals asked for prospects Humberto Sanchez and Jair Jurrjens, both right-handed pitchers, and outfielder Cameron Maybin. The Nats, in turn, turned down a counteroffer from the Tigers. The paper also reports that the Mariners' interest in Soriano has faded due to Washington GM Jim Bowden's high asking price, which included 20-year-old center fielder Adam Jones. Seattle promoted Jones to the big club after the All-Star break and he has been the M's starting center fielder ever since. hmmm...again....take it for what it's worth.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) I know their used to be a ton of Hardees in Chicago and NW Indiana... then one day they just vanished... I didn't even know they still existed till I went to college in Rock Island, IL... I've only seen one Sonic when I was in Ohio and it was fantastic... As for Ruby Tuesdays I know they have one in Shaumburg because i've eaten there.... By the way as far as I know the closest Hardees now to Chicago is Portage, IN... Heading down I57 towards Kankakee there is a Hardee's about halfway between Matteson and Kankakee. I hit it the other day. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
