First of all. Tampa Bay doesn't trade Crawford straight up for McCarthy. Odds are it would take Sweeney, and other pieces for them to even consider it. Atleast is somebody sane is running the negotations for the Rays. As for people saying "no" to such a deal, that's insanity. In the real scheme of things, what is $10 million dollars used for other pieces on the team? Are you saying you shouldn't go out and acquire a Carl Crawford because you'd rather have a year of Dave Roberts, another arm in the pen, and a bench player? That's ridiculous. If you can go out and acquire Carl Crawford for Brandon McCarthy, you do it. Also BobDylan, thanks for the lesson in responding to nonsensical arguments.

This is a whole different Indiana team now than it was when we played SIU. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 09:05 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Saw New Trier twice this year. Not that impressed. They can't pass for crap but have two good runners in Spellman and Brigandi. I haven't seen any games this year being at school, but I had heard Frahler was doing rather well. No? -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's no debating that A-Rod was a good defensive SS in the past. He was even a fine defensive 3B initially. However, he's added body mass, specifically to his legs, and his defensive range has declined dramatically. (Plus he got a case of the yips this year) I'm not so sure that he would return to be even a league average defensive shortstop if moved there in '07. I think any conversation regarding Rodriguez returning to short has to question the defense that he'll bring to the position on a team that has only one starter with an above average strikeout rate, or a strikeout rate that's not trending downward. He was one of the best short stops in the game. Adding body mass might slow him down a step or two, but he certainly wouldn't become a below average fielder because of it. In my opinion, he won't be above average but as I said he won't be below average either. Considering his bat, being average in the field is entirely acceptable.

New Trier versus Loyola. Shall be a barn burner. -
rotoworld: Josh Fields doubled and singled yesterday and is 3-for-8 after two games with La Guaira of the VWL. Fields is getting his introduction to left field this winter. The White Sox still might use him at third base if they opt to trade Joe Crede, but because of his shortcomings on defense, left field is more likely to be his long-term position. *** With Fields getting accustomed to left field in winter ball, is there a chance that he might fill the role in left in 2007? The White Sox won't go into 2007 with Fields and Anderson in there line-up, I happen to think Fields progression this offseason has some bearing on next season's roster.

Speaking of tight leather pants. Does anybody have any ideas of what I should do with those black leather pants? Michael Jackson, Dog The Bounty Hunter.. Any others?
-
I picked up these hilarious tight leather pants, I had thought I was going to be Dog the Bounty Hunter too. I want to be something else, but it seems like that is the only option. As for the vest, I picked up a beat up old black sweatshirt that I cut the sleeves off of. Looks good, will keep my body warm as all of my blood flows to my hands and feet as well.

Good post. I agree. I think the whole Ichiro discussion should end anyways, there isn't a single chance he'll be traded. He alone brings in millions upon millions of dollars, he's reasonably priced, and the guy is one of the best hitters in the game. Fuhgetaboutit.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Your understanding of the defensive spectrum is warped. I forgot, you have your own blog. Thanks for the explanation. :rolls eyes QUOTE(SoxAce @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Damn and that's putting it mildly. Thanks for offering nothing to this thread. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah I'm definitely not understanding why you would move Ichiro to LF. While on the topic, sorta...how is the Mariner's OF, depth wise? I know they're high on Jones, and Reed's there...but what are their feelings on Snelling? He was the M's #4 prospect coming into the year, but he had a horrible year at Tacoma, so I'm mainly curious as to if they are still very high on him or not. And if not, how high would their interest level be in Anderson? Well, somebody proposed that the White Sox should go after Ichiro. Rather farfetched if you ask me, but if you were to acquire him either he or Dye is playing left field. I'd rather trot out Dye in right and Ichiro in left, given the circumstances.

If a guy can adjust from a corner outfield position to center, odds are he can adjust back to the opposite corner just as smoothly. Although it really isn't worth debating, because nobody knows for certain.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think R&W is saying that if you can upgrade in CF you do it, you don't just sit around expecting Anderson to become great. I know one thing, I think he can be great defensively in CF, but that doesn't mean he'll be a good player. Considering our other option was Mack, BA should have been playing everyday. However, if we have the ability to upgrade to someone who can do both I see no harm in doing it because I don't think BA has shown enough of anything to ever think he'll be a solid major leaguer (thats still a big question-mark). That said I know he has power potential and stolen base potential so if he can correct his holes he can be a Torri Hunter type player. The White Sox have one of the highest payrolls in the game. While I agree that replacing Podsednik is priority number one, finding at the very least a platoon mate as insurance for Brian Anderson in center is a close number two.

The market does dictate the value of that player, but smart ball clubs don't give in to the dictated market value if it's a bad, or in this case, terrible long term investment.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How so? Dye's a better right fielder than he is a left fielder. Ichiro is pretty much the same whether it be in left, center, or right. I'm no math wiz but I think Rock's got that formula down.
-
Ideally, a team could big $100 million dollars just to negotiate with him and then offer him a $1 dollar contract. The whole process is stupid. I can see him going to the Yankees but the Red Sox are reportedly hot after him as well.

According to everything I've read since this all became a possibility, he does infact have a no-trade clause.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> People arguing that Anderson had a good year because of his last 4 months are people arguing for a lost cause. Anderson had a horrible year offensively. That doesn't mean we as fans, the scouts in the stands, the coaches in the dugout, and the executives in the front office can't be encouraged by significant improvement as the year progressed. Excellent post. I should look at his improvement more than how horrible he performed this year at the dish. Like I said, I like him, I just don't know if you give him the starting job next season. We shall see.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 06:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Funny, i didnt know Suppan was a rookie. I'm all for Brian Anderson's improvement. You have to love what he brings to the table defensively, I thinks he's an awesome kid, and everything inbetween, but it's stupid to ignore how poorly he did this season by taking away random months throughout the year. I could bat over a full season, and if I got beaned, or walked a couple times, I might get on-base at a .250 clip. That doesn't mean you should conclude that I'm a half decent Major Leaguer because I did this or that, it should be a given that I suck because of how poorly I performed over the entire season. Basically, I'm not for adding, subtracting, looking at small sample sizes. A year is a rather appropriate sample size, I'm not saying BA won't improve, because he should and will most likely, but to say he's a .275 hitter because he hit that well over a couple weeks is ridiculous. No?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My good buddy RedandWhite is going to LOVEEEEEEE me. A perfect leadoff hitter for me would be a guy like Youkilis. That .381 OBP clip from last year would be perfect. First and foremost, the sarcasm is entirely apparent, nonetheless I think you're one of the worst posters on this board. We are not good buddies, nor do I value anything that you say. With that being said. the White Sox add Youkilis and Buehrle is no longer in that rotation.
-
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And you're supposed to judge players based on their rookie season. Throw out April and May and BA hits .280-.290. That's right, I forgot the first half doesn't count. In that case, sign me up for Jeff Suppan winning the National League Cy Young. He was virtually unhittable in the second half.

Hopefully this guy is pulling an Urbina esque move and trying to snake money out of Juan Uribe's pockets, like those sick people who kidnapped Urbina's parents did. The things people will do for money.. Ugh.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> By saying that, you come off as acting like you knew this was going to happen all along. That's not exactly humorous or true. I can't wait until we go out to eat, go out to a bar, catch a game together or something of that sort. I think you'll see that I'm as open minded, as intelligent and friendly as they come. The 5-6 immature, close minded fools who dislike me for one reason and one reason only will be exactly that, fools. And no, I'm not talking about Rock, dorf, fathom, Steff, etc. who I've gotten into productive arguments with. I love talking baseball with them, one of the reason I'm here.
