QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah from some of his comments before you get the feeling he just hates being up there. I'm curious as to what comments he's made...

If he's going to be unable to live the rest of his life on $126 million dollars, then by all means test the free agent waters. Nonetheless, even with Wells in the AL East, I hope he takes it.

If a deal has or is going to be struck, Theo Epstein and the Sox played this to absolute perfection. What a signing he would be from $8-11 million per. It is interesting to note that Dice-K is on the plane. He hadn't previously been allowed to meet with Red Sox personnel. Perhaps the uproar in Japan caused Matsuzaka to get involved and forced Boras to do what he selfishly never does and give in.

Almost a done deal? This post should be deleted. What a joke.

I agree. I'm not angry at ESPN for that. I'm angry that there is a direct correlation between ESPN and what happens/what is reported in sports.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I will disagree with you about those two, especially the Knicks. All you hear about is Isiah Thomas and the Knicks. Rutgers got HUGE run (Granted that was a good story, but IMO Bosie State is a similar story that did not get that much run) Boise St almost lost to San Jose St. If they beat somebody half decent, they'd probably be given the same exposure.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And you don't think that's why NHL gets no coverage? I think the NHL doesn't get any coverage because ESPN refuses to give them coverage because as has been mentioned, the NHL isn't on ESPN.

Happy Birthday, playa.

It has it's positives during baseball season, as you said, but I was more furious than you were on a daily basis for three weeks leading up to the Ohio St/Michigan bulls***. I certainly can see where you're coming from after having to witness a countdown on ESPN for a game other than a Championship game for three weeks straight. Sickening, gross..

Yea, the ACC basketball coverage is rather ridiculous. Although it's mainly only Duke and North Carolina, and similar to the Red Sox and Yankees, it's because they are two of the most popular teams in the country and draw incredible ratings. Also, Tony. Could it be because the Red Sox and Yankees draw ratings? Whether or not you like how the station is run, things that draw ratings and as a result draw more revenue will be front and center ahead of things that don't.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 12:32 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What the hell are you talking about? ESPN is always talking about the knicks. As for hockey, I played for around ten years and I don't even get into the NHL. Part of the fact is that living in a dorm I'm not able to watch it, but even if I could I would never watch it. The NHL is bad, period. I watch Sportscenter, just because I'd rather watch sports highlites than soap's, on average 3 times per day. Perhaps you're more of an ESPN connaisseur than I am, but I just fail to see all this Knick coverage you speak of. As for the second part. The NHL is bad? The greatest hockey players in the world play in our country and the NHL is bad? The NHL is the premier league in the world, but it's bad? Get real.

Besides baseball, there is hardly any of this East coast bias everyone refers to. Do the Knicks, Celtics, Nets, etc. get any more time in the spot light than they should? No. Do the Bruins, Rangers, Devils, Islanders, etc. get any time in the spot light at all? No. There is hardly any favoritism at all in the NFL, especially now that ESPN holds the Monday Night Football rights. College Sports? Who? Boston College? No. Rutgers? No. UMass? St. Johns? St. Joes? Come on.. Absolutely not. And while I agree that the NHL has more problems than just ESPN, the tv ratings, which this thread is based on have a direct correlation to not being carried on ESPN.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's another factor other than ESPN in that one. Living in a dorm, I haven't been able to see one hockey game all year. ESPN puts only about five minutes, at the most, into there NHL time on Sportscenter. It strikes me as odd that because ESPN/ABC has the rights to the Ohio St/Michigan game and it's suddenly the Super Bowl of Super Bowls. Or even tonights Bears game.. It was a horrible game, yet 20 minutes in the show they are still covering it? Personally, I think ESPN has more of an influence in sports now-a-days than you're willing to admit.

He is a good ball player, I especially like him. Still, he's due to make more than the Braves want to pay him and considering the non-tender deadline is coming up fast, I happen to think he'll be cut.
-
It's too bad. Just goes to show how much of an influence ESPN has in sports these days. God, I hate ESPN.

Could Willie Harris start in Atlanta next year or atleast be a viable bench option for that club if Marcus Giles is in fact not tendered a contract?
-
He's two days older than I am, I've seen him play a couple times in person, he plays for my favorite hockey team.. Another Boston Icon diagnosed with cancer.. Just crazy. Thoughts and prayers, my man. http://cbs4boston.com/local/local_story_345230707.html

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> if he is, i'll boo him every game i go to. That's the second stupidest thing I've heard this off season.

QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm in the vast minority when I say I wouldn't mind seeing Barry in a Sox uniform for one year. However, it won't happen because we have no room for him. Why would you mind? You'd win more games and have a better chance to win a World Series with Bonds than without him.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've been a Sox fan since 1970. But if the White Sox sign Barry Bonds, I will completely disown the club during the entirety of his time on the team. And it may be very difficult to revive my loyalty even after he is gone. That's the stupidest thing I've heard all off season. I find it hard to believe that he refused to play. I don't listen to the Boston media on Ramirez for the most part, it's all exaggerated, and they simply dislike the guy because he refuses to talk to them. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The 2 instances I mentioned arent speculation. He did not play in either of those games and that is what his manager said at the time. The mp3 player etc are, thats why I listed them as "stories". Just as it is speculation what Bonds knew about using steroids. I find it hard to believe that he refused to play. I don't listen to the Boston media on Ramirez for the most part, it's all exaggerated, and they simply dislike the guy because he refuses to talk to them. Some things are common sense, some aren't. That's a horrible analogy.

Steve Phillips is a f***ing moron. He said he heard rumors of a Red Sox/Barry Bonds connection last week and that was debunked with in about a half hour. The guy just spews whatever he feels like out of his mouth, he's a piece of s***. Infact, I had his brother as my math teacher my junior year of high school, he apparently disowned his family, and his brother didn't have much good to say about him either. Again, a snake, an attention grabber, and an all around cock sucker. I'm not against Bonds playing for the White Sox, I don't know why so many would be, nonetheless, considering Phillips said it, there's a good chance no deal will be made. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Strangely you fail to mention the fact that no one has ever said a word about Bonds desire to play and to show up and work every day. Where as many times "Manny being Manny" means that he has come down with mystery illness, etc, that prevent him from playing in meaningful games. September 4, 2003 - Manny refuses to pinch hit in a game against Philadelphia, angering manager Grady Little, who benches him the next game. July 27, 2005 - With Trot Nixon out with an injury to his leg, manager Terry Francona approaches Ramirez about playing on what was to be a scheduled day off; Ramírez refuses to play. There are also stories of Manny using Mp3 players in the outfield, failing to run out routine grounders, etc, etc. To me that would cause more clubhouse problems than the media being on Bonds ass. So far I have yet to see any complaints about Bonds the player. All speculation. I like Wikipedia, hell I love it, but that page is about 50% truthful.

I hope Gil Meche works out for Kansas City. That could be a franchise crippler if it doesn't.

Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
redandwhite replied to BobDylan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Phils could have picked up Baldelli, Upton or Crawford as is being mentioned here for crap, they would have done so. I'm very dissapointed with Kenny Williams, and this isn't the first time I have been this offeason. Sickening. -

Why would you boycott the Sox for trying to improve by signing one of the best players on the market and one of the greatest players of all time? That's a bit ridiculous.
