QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) I really liked it. I thought it was one of the best halloween themed horror movies in a long time. I think the movie studio messed this one up. It was supposed to come out Oct 5th 2007. Why it didn't come out only on DVD, two years later is odd.

Jenks takes issue with complaints about weight
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 08:07 AM) If his attitude is "I'll be as heavy as a want to be" it would be one thing if he's still lights out. He's not. If you look at the body of his work in 2009, even with an ERA in the mid 3's and 29 saves, you will find his overall performance to be well below average. He was only about 50% converting saves when he came in with a 1 run lead. Most of his saves were lay ups. 18 or 19 I believe were recorded when he entered with a 3 run lead. 13 of his saves came when he entered with a three run lead. 1 save was with a five run lead against the twins in which he came with the bases loaded and pitched one inning and threw a strikeout and a double play. 8 of his saves came when he entered with a 2 run lead. 7 of his saves came when he entered with a 1 run lead. All 6 of his blown saves came with a 1 run lead.

So who else agrees the anna paquin segment in trick r treat was brutal? It didn't tie in to anything else and was just plain boring.

Thome wants to return to Chicago
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) Would anyone else prefer Kotsay to Thome? Kotsay can actually play a few positions, probably a little more speed, and can put the bat on the ball. Thome is all-or-nothing.....the only thing making me think twice is how low our power would be up and down the lineup. Prefer him over thome for what role? Dh, being on the team, batting fourth? Which is it? Because the answer would be no to all three. Kotsay has value, do not get me wrong. Kotsay could very well end up being a fantastic asset to the sox if utilized correctly. Realistically both could come back here, as neither would take playing time away from the other, and both can be had relatively cheap.

Thome wants to return to Chicago
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) Much less. $2M for the year and you're welcome back, big guy! As LH DH only. Might as well see if he will play for us for free while you are at it.

White Sox talk new deal with Scott Podsednik's agent
I am not the biggest believer that a certain position requires a certain amount of production... but... You simply do not dh a hitter as poor as podsednik or any player of his ilk for any signifigant amount of plate appearances.

Student suspended for having a pocket knife locked up in his car
QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 06:27 PM) A guy at my high school was suspended and not allowed go to to state (even though he qualified and was the best diver at the school) for diving because he was seen smoking a cigarette in an Denny's with some friends on a weekend wearing his school warm up's. And this was probably 10-11 years ago. I would have sued the living s*** out of them for this very scenario... then... and now. I have had several cases in which my schools have tried to persue something i had done outside of school, and they personally never got very far. I'm surprised pencils are allowed in schools anymore, not to mention a compass, scissors, rulers, etc. Compasses are so damn mean it's not even funny.

There was some legitimate discussion in this thread. I like to see that.

I find it humorous that soxtalk (knightni) sponsored linebrink's baseball reference page. Ew.

Will Beckham win AL ROY?
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) I didnt realize that Peavy was past his prime and that Petco delivered him his cy young. Werent his numbers significantly better on the road than they were in Petco over his career? In his entire career (including his three starts with the sox) he has been significantly better at home. Home numbers - 2.82 era, .219 baa, .613 ops, 1.091 whip, 9.6 k/9, and a 3.67 k/bb ratio. Road numbers - 3.79 era, .244 baa, .729 ops, 1.289 whip, 8.3 k/9, and a 2.55 k/bb ratio. A nice positive though is his first and second half numbers are very similar in his career.

Will Beckham win AL ROY?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) Peavy is better than Verlander without question. You forgot that he cannot hit 99, on pitch 120, though.

Dye says "I don't really have a feeling"
QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) He is. I was expecting more of a reaction. But yes, of course dye is atrocious out there.

Dye says "I don't really have a feeling"
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) Because people are going to want to discuss this team's failures, it's a rather natural practice that most all sports fans partake in at the conclusion of their favorite team's season. Jermaine was a large contributor to these failures so his name is going to come up. Being 35, slow and an awful defender Jermaine really had no long term value for this team unlike players such as Rios, Beckham, Pena or Peavy, his only value to this team was in the present and he failed spectacularly in that short period of time before his value to the club was to expire. Because of this he's going to catch more of the blame since the fans have no future production to look forward to concerning Jermaine. I can't believe you would say dye is an awful defender.

Miguel Cabrera got drunk with Sox players Friday night?
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) Not to mention the awful contracts they might have to hand to Washburn, and Huff. ??? It's as simple as saying they are not interested in either, there is no law that they have to negotiate with them, it's not like they are in any sort of jeopardy. Btw, robertson makes ten million next season, talk about a garbage contract.

Dye says "I don't really have a feeling"
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Can you forgive the others who lay down and died? I won't go through all the names. Rios?!?

Dye says "I don't really have a feeling"
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) he always talks as if he only struggled a few games here and there in the second half. saying things like everyone slumps, its part of the game, etc. sorry but falling off completely in back to back years in the second half isnt just a little slump.(esp this yr) We would have killed to have dye put up an .842 ops in the second half this season (what he posted last season in the second half) compared to his .590 ops this season.

Rogers suggests trading for Fielder
QUOTE (rockren @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) KW claiming Rios off of waivers should be a sign of things to come. KW didn't put together potentially the greatest rotation in all of baseball and disregard his defense. While Prince has come A LONG way on defense (I live in the Madison and watch the Brewers almost nightly) he's still below average at best defensively. Add in the fact that Boras represents Fielder as stated numerous times in this thread...I can't say enough how far off base this idea proposed by Rogers is. Kenny williams has disregarded defense for essentially his entire tenure. I'm not optimistic about a change anytime soon.

Films Thread
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 03:15 AM) I've been resigned to this reality for awhile. Honestly, it used to irritate the hell out of me. I remember thinking, "How can anyone touch Dawn of the Dead?" and ended up pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, this is an aberration; I'd tend go to agree with your 9/10 Hollywood remakes are atrocious. All of these franchises (Halloween, FT13th, NOES) have built in fanbases that extend back 20+ years. There's much less risk involved with recreating a horror classic than attempting to cash in with an original idea. As long as people continue giving these companies money, they'll continue churning out the crap. If you want quality films, it seems that what's happening more and more is they'll be showcased at some horror/independent move festival and receive a generous amount of buzz, only to rot away for several years until their DVD release. It's frustrating for people like myself that read horror forums and here of this amazing film, but no one knows when the hell it's going to be available for rental. Here's a movie that should reinvigorate your faith in the business -- it's called "Trick R Treat." This is one of those films that has been known about for quite awhile. It's being released on DVD October 6th, and reviews for it have been overwhelmingly favorable. People whose opinions I trust have been labeling it a movie you'll probably find yourself watching at Halloween for years to come. That, for me, is the perfect description of a horror movie. I'm actually excited to watch it. Funny you mentioned trick r treat, i watch it four hours prior to your post. Trick r treat has as large of a cult following as it does for a reason, it was pretty nice to see something as fresh as it was, especially for the horror genre. One of the four stories did leave a lot to be desired, i wish they either went in another direction with it, or scrapped it entirely. I really did enjoy how well they interwove everything all throughout... leaving very few plot holes, which is hard enough for any genre, once more, especially horror. The acting in roughly 80%-90% of the movie is above average, which was also treat considering a good deal of the cast are teens or younger.

9/30 Sox vs Cleveland 3:05 pm CSN - Gm 1
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) So what I'm getting is that you'd rather they drug him out to the street and shot him rather than let him spell Konerko in a meaningless game? He just serves no purpose on a major league roster in my eyes, no matter what point of the season it is. I can see how you would mistake the two though.

9/30 Sox vs Cleveland 3:05 pm CSN - Gm 1
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) It's not as if Fields is taking playing time away from some hot 1B prospect. They are hoping he does well, which might increase his trade value (which currently sits at next to nothing) ever so slightly. Teams have more than enough to go off of to know what they are gonna get out of josh fields that six games, eight games, fifteen games, etc... will not alter their perception of the type of player fields is.

9/30 Sox vs Cleveland 3:05 pm CSN - Gm 1
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) I still think Fields is one mechanical change away from being a good hitter. He just seems unable to change that one thing, for whatever reason. I can't remember the last time I saw a hitter struggle where you could clearly see one, specific, mechanical thing, that is so obviously causing them a problem, and yet the player can't adjust. I agree on Wise and Lillibridge though, and Fields won't be with the org in 2010 either I'm fairly certain. What is that mechanical change you speak of? Literally falling to his knees after getting blown away by 88-90 mile an hour fastballs seems to myself that he is incompetent of playing at the major league level, versus him just having just a small flaw in his mechanics. Fields has not done anything even remotely noteworthy in two full seasons, between both the majors and the minors, and he is only getting older, tick tick, tick tock. You hit the nail on the head, fields has done very little if anything to adjust. Fields especially, and maybe the organization also, cannot grasp that the only way to know longer make the same mistake, is to accept that you are doing something wrong in the first place. Considering fields is only hurting the team due to being a glaring hole offensively and defensively, while continually regressing, it seems like an easy choice to cut our losses. It's more than time to put the burden that is josh fields on someone else.

9/30 Sox vs Cleveland 3:05 pm CSN - Gm 1
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Why is Wise getting all of this playing time? Does he really count as one of the "young guys?" '' The catch'', duh.

9/30 Sox vs Cleveland 3:05 pm CSN - Gm 1
Real ugly. Cannot wait until fields, wise, and lillibridge are entirely out of this organization. They all do nothing but disgust me. Pretty pissed they are all out there again tonight, as none of them serve a purpose for the future. The sox will probably score 10 tonight.
