  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) Meh, what else he supposed to say? "We are going to explore all avenues in which we can trade Alex Rodriguez."? Im sure he was asked the question, and just like Williams would say about Thome or Konerko, or whoever, he stood by one of his guys. Just like Jeter.
  2. YouTube has been negotiating with companies such as CBS, Showtime and CSTV to post clips. I don't think this will affect too much because the broadcasters will post and anythign else posted by the average joe will be taken down. The content will still be there. Plus, unless the people posting material are using it to make a profit, I don't think the copywrite owners have too much of a leg to stand on. Especially if it's being used in a parody. I don't think it will be affected all that much.
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) The Yankee's are apparently hot after him. Or at least that what I gathered from listening to one of the baseball insiders on my local station talking about the Yanks (it was actually a NY writer talking about it). Posting deals with teams negotiating blindly (like a blind bid) putting in bids to the team and there is a deadline. At the deadline the team with the highest bid gets exclusive negotiating ability with the player. Paging Hideki Irabu...Hideki Irabu you have a Mr. Steinbrenner on line 2.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 05:40 PM) I can't consider anyone that is in the top 4 at his position defensively a reserve outfielder (not when you have the speed and power potential of Anderson). In the right system I think you play him regardless. I think the Sox have that but the problem is Ozzie really handled things awfully. Now if we get a good offer and are able to get another CF that fits in at the top of the order, well than thats another story. If Anderson is going to be used as a reserve outfielder, just trade him now because he has more value than that of a reserve outfielder (on the trade market). So basically put, if I'm KW I'd either force Ozzie to use BA or make a move (unless Ozzie tells Kenny that BA will be an integral part of next years team). As far as where BA may fall, if he can do a bit to his swing I could see him being Torri Hunter (defensively and offensively). However, I don't see him getting better than that offensively (and I know some here feel Hunter is an incredibly over-rated offensive player). BA could be far worse than that too, hitting in the low to mid .200's with high strikeout totals. For example...Mike Cameron is still around. Good defensively..sometimes a liability offensively, but he keeps getting jobs because he can get to the ball. THAT'S why Anderson is not a reserve outfielder. and you can't judge a player based on one year that he was handled very well. Put him in a situation where he can succeed and build his confidence and he turns into your CF for years to come.
  5. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) what he said and I chose Balta's response because he is a Bills fan, and because he used fun words Understandable. I'm just saying, with all things being equal, I'd rather have Jeter. And he could hit leadoff, A-Rod can't. Well, i guess he could, but why?

    The Departed

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Well, work/family circumstances probably won't let me see it before Halloween weekend, but I'm real good at ignoring people, so I think I'll be okay.... I'm sorry...did you say something?
  7. Dear Justin Morneau, Perhaps next time, instead of saying that the one thing you want to do is keep the White Sox out of the playoffs, maybe you should considering offering up this little tidbit, "I want to win the World Series and I don't care who we have to beat to do it." Love, ...O' Corn PS. Hope that wedge treats you well this offseason. Well, actually, I hope someone beats you over the head with it.
  8. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) The Yankees will never trade Derek Jeter. End of discussion. I don't know...if The Boss is miffed enough, I could see him trying to see what he can get for Jeter. Check Jim Caple's article on Page 2 on ESPN. 5 of the 6 reasons actually make sense.
  9. I'm not going to go through 17 pages, but isn't the idea of the offseason to get Iguchi out of the number 2 slot? At least one of the ideas. Also, didn't Ozzie want more speed at the top? Roberts is good, but he's not adding more speed, he's replacing it. And yes, A-Rod can steal some bases, but that's not really why he's on anyone's team. Personally, I'd rather have Jeter if we are going to trade with the Yankees. He will do whatever it takes to win, yes, you lose a lot defensively from Uribe, but you pick up about 70 points in batting average and about the same in baseball IQ. Discuss.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^ QOTM. Now everyone walk into Jewel and ask them where the Heinz Spotted Dick is . . . from wiki Spotted Dick is a steamed suet pudding containing dried fruit, usually currants. The dessert is especially popular in the United Kingdom, usually served either with custard or with butter and brown sugar. Spotted refers to the currants (which resemble spots), and Dick may be a corruption of the word dough. Most recipes for spotted dick include the following: * White bread crumbs * Self-raising flour * Shredded suet * Raisins or currants * Salt * Nutmeg * Ginger * Mace * Citrus fruit peel * Eggs * Brandy Can't we all just get along?!
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) isnt Scott already like 28 years old or something like that? Yeah. But Pods didn't come up til he was 27 and Dave Roberts didn't come up and stay up until he was 30.
  12. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) Nothing's wrong with "Put it on the board...." that is CLASSIC. Regarding the "He gone" thing--that's exactly the point: he says "He gone!", the shirts say "He gone!" but on the PA it's "He's gone!" Why not just UPDATE the damn thing. BTW and me being an idiot for not knowing "crooked number"? My baseball expert co-worker thought it meant something entirely different, so I don't feel so bad. BTW the one I think we can ALL agree on is "Duck snort." Stooopid. No sir. I do not agree. I think he talks more in baseball-isms than Hawk-isms when it comes to things like that.
  13. Someone I saw a few times and really has impressed, both at AAA Round Rock and on the Astros is Luke Scott. I think this kid is going to be pretty damn good and he has a good eye...I think his OBP was around .380 in limited playing time. His natural position is LF and... ...aw who am I kidding, the Astros aren't goin to trade him. A boy can dream, can't he?
  14. For those of you willing to ship Mark somewhere, who do we get to replace him? And I don't mean BMac. I mean, a lefty. We are going to be in third again if we go into the season with 5 RHP starting for us. Buehrle will get back to where he was when he remembers how to keep the ball down. You don't figure out a guy like Buehrle because he pitches to contact. He isn't a strikeout machine. That's why he's had success. He may not ever be a 20 game winner, but he's going to consistently win 15 a year. Keep him long term...well, three years.
  15. Did Hawk ever do radio? He should cuz his Hawk-isms are perfect for radio. I love the Hawk and hope he continues to do Sox games until he passes on to the dugout in the sky. He's sooo much better than the crap I have to listen to for Astros and Rangers games. Bill Brown? Josh Lewin? Actually, they're great...if I wanna take a nap. The only good thing is I get to hear one of my favorites do Astros radio...Milo Hamilton. I love me some Milo, if only cuz he HATED Harry Carey. And LV, if you EVER mess with Can o' Corn again, I'll have to drop one on your head.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Because Buehrle and Garcia are the first 2 who will hit Free Agency out of the 6...at the end of 2007. If Buehrle can be resigned, then he should be. But if he wants to test the market or wants a higher price than we're willing to pay...we can't afford to lose a pitcher as good as him for nothing. We need to either have Buehrle or what Buehrle was traded for...we can't afford to have neither. I understand what you are both saying, but he is our only lefty and unless we can grab another one via trade or free agency, we can't let him go. Maybe we should take a page from Billy Beane. He's letting Zito walk, but he's got talent behind him.... Also, do you stay with the horses that got you there? I believe if Kenny wants to win now, he trades Garcia and keeps Buehrle, even if he ends up walking.
  17. Ah yes, what doesn't the government tell us. I would imagine that there is a warehouse somewhere with documents upon documents that weren't released to the American people. Actually, it's probably shredded, burned and buried. Let's not make this a Bush thing...it's a government thing. The government thinks that what the American people don't know won't hurt us...and sometimes they may be right. And COME ON, do you not think that EVERY president since at least Carter hasn't heard that something like 9/11 would happen? That's 2 Democrats and 3 Republicans...no bias there. So friggity what? You want to make a change and do something about it? Get into politics.
  18. Did you see the ending of that Marshall-Central Florida game? I can't wait to see what happens next week!!!
  19. I understand why everyone is saying BMac, Garland and Vazquez next year, but why is everyone thinking Buehrle? I would think that he would be the first pitcher they sign to a long-term contract. (Well, long term for the Sox, so a two or three year-extension.) Maybe rip up 2007 and renegotiate for three or four years to 2009-2010. Why? Again...young, lefty, pitches to contact, 200+ innings eater. He has had one bad year and people want to trade. And even IF he has another bad year he will still have market value because of the reasons above. It's probably going to be, in order of who is most likely to be traded: 1. Garcia 2. Contreras 3. Vazquez 4. Buehrle 5. Garland
  20. QUOTE(daa84 @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 12:20 PM) everyone talks about brians secodn half....but am i the only one who thinks his second half still wasnt very good....i mean .257 .301 .393 still stinks..........im not sayin he won't be a good ballplayer, but i think people tend to overrate his second half... It's improvement. If he hit .200 the whole year, then there is an argument. But, he showed that he was improving before Ozzie started meddling (although I know Oz was just trying to get the best team out of the field).

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) O.K., first there was limbo, now it is gone. So does that mean that all of the people trapped in limbo will now be released this week and that a whole bunch of Limbo workers will now be unemployed? It's a darn shame. Jack is gonna be PISSED!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) It could be worse, you could be a Muslim Great. First, I'm told I'm going to go blind. Then, I'm going to get hairy palms. Then kittens die. And now, I have to do a qada. I just can't win for losing.
  24. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) Only thing is that this year he was flashy for a little while. He'll look for a starting job, but I wouldn't mind him in a platoon if he can't find that. And the versatility is nice. I don't know anything about his defense. Some other outfield names that may be available that hit lhp very well -- Kevin Mench, Xavier Nady, Moises Alou. I'm not saying, I'm just saying. Of all of those, I'd take Nady...just for potential.
