  1. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 07:43 AM) I agree it's too Cubsesque. But if it were to happen, it should be the "BArometer" Well done sir.
  2. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 10:20 AM) I think it's silly to say that because Thome is out, the offense is doing better. Bull. I do like, however, the way this team is built, and even without Thome, we've gotten good games from the rest of the guys. I'm not sure if they could sustain it for too long a time, and in fact I'd bet that they can't, but I like this team's depth, talent and resilency. It may not be THE factor, but it sure is a contributing factor, along with the rotten staffs that the O's and Royals have. Not having Thome or Konerko in there forces this team to do more of the little things to score runs and not rely on Caveman Jim.
  3. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) El Pulpo! Despot smespot, who cares, just so long as we get our bananas. Come mister tally man, tally me bananas... C'MON EVERYBODY!!! Daylight come and me wanna go home!!!
  4. I say tell her you're going to give her another month. She should like that... Me fail english, that's unpossible.
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) It is so amazingly simple, and so true. It's so simple.
  6. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) I wouldn't expect Santana or Liriano to experience a "Buehrle slump" (which completely redefines slump, because slumps typically END within several starts) anytime soon. I'd like to see either give up more than 5 ER in ANY game pitched, let alone five straight. Well Santana only started starting full-time since the middle of 2003 and Liriano is a rookie. Buehrle has 5 + seasons of 200+ IP, sooo, unfortunately, this argument doesn't work. Randy Johnson was having a rough year before he went from Seattle to Houston. Roger Clemens had a rough year in 1999 and I think a bad one with the Red Sox. It happens...and unless he's injured and not telling anybody, or doesn't know, MB will bounce back. It just may not be this year. And you know what? That's ok. He's earned an off-year after being a workhorse for 5+ and helping us win a World Series. I would be more lenient with MB more than any other of our pitchers. And yes, MB is the heart of the rotation. As he goes...so goes the rotation.
  7. I hate getting in pissing matches over this Jay guy and in fact I didn't read today's article, but after reading your summary, and I agree with some of what he says, but since when is a 27 yo washed up? Buehrle doesn't throw hard, he doesn't throw anything that torques his arm too much, could it be *gasp* that he has dead arm from throwing extra innings last year? Or *gasp* that a pitcher can't have a no-hitter every game? Or *stunned* that every player, including the best that ever lived had slumps that sometimes lasted an entire year? I mean, c'mon, I'm sure Marriotti even has a couple weeks where he looks at his articles and says, "Meh." I know he's just stirring things up, but saying something stupid is...well...stupid.
  8. Apocalypto is no longer the name of his next movie...it's the word for his career. As a Jew, I can take a good joke...after seeing Passion of the Christ and now this...I will never see another Mel Gibson movie again. I may even send my copy of Braveheart back to the distributor. Plus, of all the people to piss off...IN HOLLYWOOD...the Jews aren't the ones.
  9. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) I don't consider being so locked into these players such a good thing. Our best players are a 36 year old slugger, a "34 year old" Cuban pitcher, and a 32 year old outfielder having by far his best career season. Good luck trying to duplicate that next year. As far as the pitchers, I see Buehrle having the best shot of improving. Hopefully Garland can pitch more like he has in the second half. But after that? Vazquez has sucked for quite some time, at some point he's not underachieving anymore. Garcia sucks because he has no fastball, and how many players lose their stuff at 30, and regain it at 31? Right now I see us as the 4th or 5th best team in the AL, and very lucky that our offense has produced up to this level. Upgrading this roster in the off-season is a must, imo. I see the rotation like I see the quarterback or running back positions in the NFL...you NEED an extra starter and an extra closer. We have that. If someone goes down, they stretch out BMac and bring up Tracey or Haeger or Phillips or whoever. If Jenks goes down *knocks on wood* they've got MacDougal or Cotts or Thornton. It's called depth and it's a good thing. As for the 36 year old slugger...he's just a DH. He doesn't play the field so that cuts down on his injury risk. Contreras is going to be the next Niekro. If his arm hasn't fallen off by this point after all the work he got in Cuba, then he's one of those freak of nature rubber arm guys. And Dye is just peaking now. I'd give him another couple of years of output very close to this. Especially hitting behind Konerko and Thome. Someone is going to be gone from the rotation this offseason...they pretty much said that last year. Buehrle and Garcia will bounce back, I have faith. Vazquez, I'm not so sure, but he's got to cinch it up and hunker down. Garland is what he is. I think they got freaked out by Detroit and lost it for awhile, but they will bounce back and get that second wind and kick it into high gear again. Signed, Nostradamus the Eternal Optimist
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) Oswalt is probably a better pitcher than BMAC will ever be. I would trade BMAC for overpriced middle infielders who have lost a step in the field, nor a rental LF'er. We also dont need offense, our offense is great. We need pitching in the worst way. I wouldn't say we need pitching in the worst way...what we need is for the staff to get their heads out of their poopers and get back to what made them successful last year. Pitch quickly, inside and with confidence. As for Kenny: pitching for pitching...offense for offense. I believe that is his stance and I agree.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) Y'all can find a selection of my photos from China Here. And yes, I am one ugly dude, so get that out of the way. You look a LOT like Mao Tse Tung...weird.
  12. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) Soriano will be a Tiger or a Yankee. Hopefully a Tiger as we have a MUCH greater chance at the wildcard spot than we do of catching Detroit for the division. I think he will go to Detroit because they have much more to offer Washington than New York does. I'm not so sure...I would bet the Tigers, if they are being asked to give up a major leaguer, might be tentative in dealing away some chemistry. they don't really need Soriano and I'd like to see their youngsters in the playoffs...cuz it's a whole different ballgame. Kenny Rogers has a lot of experience, but they might want to back up with a Cory Lidle type...someone with experience that can pitch out of the bullpen if the starters still kick ass. I can see a different team flinching...perhaps the Angels or the Cards.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) While Rusty contributed to the problem, the doctors that were treating her should have admitted her into a facility loooooog before she had Mary. They, IMO, definitely hold some responsibility for the death of those children as well. Are you thinkin' there will be a civil suit against the doctors?
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) Her story was on Dateline last night. The reality is starting to hit. It's not pretty and I agree it's a horrible internal punishment. Even if she does get the help she needs and "recovers," she will ALWAYS be connected to that. She will lead a lonely, lonely life. She should probably be institutionalized forever, just because she can constantly be on suicide watch. What a horrible story.
  15. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) If this is true, and KW talked with the three, and he stands pat, that's a heckava vote of confidence. Whether it works, who knows. But the sox do have the talent. Getting their minds right, and their confidence is key. What better way to instill confidence than giving the players input into personnel decisions. And honestly...those three deserve the respect. Konerko had a career year last year and became leader of the team. Dye quietly went about his business and *poof* he's the World Series MVP. And Thome is just a good ballplayer and seems like a good clubhouse guy. Plus, he's been around a long time. A player's only, closed door meeting can't be too far behind. Let's reel off some wins, boys!
  16. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 08:09 AM) Does this mean I need to take down all my Lance Bass posters? No, it means you need to put up Reichen Lehmkuhl posters.
  17. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) Well of course not, but it's not like MacDougal is going to make or break our season. Giving up two top 20 prospects for a Royals 29 year old MR with a mysterious shoulder injury is a bit much. So what you are saying is...two Top 500 ML prospects for a major league pitcher. Just because they are in the top 20 in the White Sox organization doesn't mean they are good prospects. Minor leaguers are put into three categories: Major League players Trade bait Filler Now, these can change over the course of a career, but that's about it. Lumsden may have moved off the three year board. Cortes may have been too far away from the big club for it to matter. Bottom line, we didn't give up any Major League ready talent for McDougal. I like the trade.
  18. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) or grow a pair. Of brains...?
  19. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) There is a big difference between being able to yell at your players and expect things from them and belittling them in front of a tv crew. that should be handled in the clubhouse. Now if any of our pitchers ever do retaliate on anyone theyre gonna be suspended quickly. It also shows lack of respect for the players. Ozzie is the manager and should be allowed to protect his players but Im sick of seeing him yell at them on the dug out steps. It makes the Sox look classless and gives us terrible media. Players arent gonna like playing for him anymore and arent gonna perform as well when they feel disrespected, the whole world knows what ozzie wants done if one of our guys gets hit and when the retaliation comes suspensions are gonna be all over. If Ozzie wants to act like a lunatic he at least needs the support of his team so theyll produce and its justified. It isnt about being a baby or the players being too sensitive, its supposed to be a team and Ozzie is disrespecting a guy that has been in our rotation since before he even got here. I dont know for sure if its the cause for the recent poor play but it definately isnt helping. It's not about the players, it's about sticking up for your team. Padilla has hit our players, what 3 or 4 times this year...and the team hasn't backed it's OWN players. There used to be a time when, if Team A plunked a player and Team B thought it was personal, Team B would plunk a player on Team A. Not only that, but if a member of Team A showed up Team B's pitcher by watching a home run a bit too long or jabbering around the bases, that pitcher would throw behind that batter or hit him the next time up. Ozzie is an old-school ballplayer AND is incredibly emotional. He was like this when he was a player, we just didn't hear about it, except when he called out Big Frank. Ozzie wants to win, but more than that, he wants his players to play hard, play smart and play tough. This is why CLee is gone...you don't slide hard into 2nd to break up a double play...he gawn. As long as he thinks the players are trying their best, he will trust and believe in them.
  20. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) Vazquez has actually not pitched that well early in the game. He pitches better from pitch 31-75. Vazquez by pitch Pitch 1-15 5.19 ERA Pitch 16-30 5.94 ERA Pitch 31-45 1.83 ERA Pitch 46-60 1.65 ERA Pitch 61-75 3.50 ERA Pitch 76-90 9.92 ERA Pitch 91-105 10.13 ERA The issue with him is when runners are on base. Bases Empty - 2.94 ERA Runners On - 8.04 ERA RISP - 12.56 ERA RISP w/2outs - 24.98 ERA Bases Loaded - 12.27 ERA I don't know how you fix that, but those numbers are horrible. Brain transplant.
  21. QUOTE(Cknolls @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) Given that the sox will be in Balt. Antone think KW will talk about acquiring Tejada? He is a better fit for the Sox, both with the bat and defensively. I doubt it. Unless we can get a SP along with him.
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) See, that's why I mentioned Rocco. The guy is an incredible athlete, plays great defense in CF with an above average arm, he can shift around to RF/LF as well and could leadoff if need be with his exceptional speed. Rocco still isn't displaying great plate disciplane but he has shown some very good pop since comming off the DL. Plus he's still only 24. Great idea! But since they shipped out Gathright, I doubt they would trade him. Plus, I don't think he is showing 100% of his speed yet...he has been out of baseball for about a year and a half. That being said, if the Rays put him on the market...GO GET 'IM!
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) :begood OR ELSE! All hail ss2k5!!! *bows down before ye* I was trying to be polite, I don't know what happened.
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) Would it really bring down Soriano's value? They are pretty much two completely different players. yes, they are both power hitting corner outfielders. Soriano, while good this year in the leadoff spot, is not a proto-typical leadoff hitter because his OBP is pretty low. They are both going to be expensive to resign and they both have roughly the same tools, except that Soriano has speed. AND, the Brewers won't be asking for the same parts as the Nats because by that time, all the GMs will know that the Brewers will be shipping CLee out because they couldn't resign him.
  25. QUOTE(HawknWimpyLUV @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) Actually it's not. They had a pretty big cushion up until the final week and then pulled away. It's much harder to wake up from 7.5 back. Let's not be morons here. Actually, I was talking about being a game up on the Twins. And please, don't call me a moron. Thanks for your support.
