  1. Who cares? It woulda been great to see it, but he's pitching out his butthole today. Big Game Freddy is back for a game. I'll take a one-hitter any day of the week and twice on Tuesday.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) No.
  3. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) 5 ssshhhh....
  4. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) nice pauly!! Let's get a couple more! And notice...not one homer.
  5. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) And again, if Ozzie did it, people would be calling for his head. This is September and expanded rosters allow managers to do this kind of thing. Who was it that had 13 relievers in their pen recently? I can't remember who it was.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Based on what? Williams has been linked to liking for Vazquez for a long time, and gave up ALOT to get him. I just dont see Williams shipping him off this off-season. Vaz has also had a decent year IMO, and almost expect a very good season out of Vaz. Freddy on the other hand.... Based on the amount of money they are paying him to be a 5th starter, mainly. If he coulda moved up to 2nd or 3rd, I would say Garcia first, but he's had to many problems this year. Like I said, JMO.
  7. 8 straight balls. C'mon JD...get off the September Schneid.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) I'd still say there's a reasonable chance Garcia will wind up with the Sox next year regardless of what happens the rest of this season. One starter will be traded. If KW finds someone's willing to overpay for one of the other pitchers...we might wind up keeping Freddy. I just hope KW gets something really valuable for one of the starters. I think Vazquez is first out the door if they can find a buyer for him. Then Garcia...Buehrle...Contreras...Garland. Just a guess.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) Injury delay? Eh-splain, please. Thanks...
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) Can't watch the game today...I'd appreciate as many updates and observations as possible. I will say that this 7-8-9 in our lineup is terrible. Actually Sandy's having a pretty decent year for a 40 yo catcher. .280 is more than I'd expect, especially with the amount of playing time he's had.
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) Build It, And I Will Come! But will you go to the Kum n' Go?
  12. If the Sox are shopping for a new LF, CF and SS, why would they create a hole by trading Crede. I mean, Fields COULD be good, but who knows if he is. Unless they put Figgins at SS, not that he's very good there. Not gonna happen like this...but I won't say we won't get Figgins some way.
  13. I remember getting out of the shower as well...watching the Today Show. The first one had hit...and right when I turned the TV on, the second one hit. I must've been in shock as well, cuz I just left the house, turned on the CD Walkman and went to work reading the paper. When I got to work in the Wrigley Building, no one was at their desk, they were all in the play area watching tv. THAT'S when it truly hit me. About a half an hour later, the crawl at the bottom of the screen said they were shutting down buildings and the Wrigley Building crawled by...we all kinda looked at each other like, "Wait, our building is closed? What are we doing here?" So, slowly but surely we all start to leave. Got to my girlfriend's house around 11 and was trying to call friends the rest of the day. I'll never forget where I was or the feelings I had about my friends that work in that general vicinity and the relief I felt when I found out they were ok.

    3 weeks to go

    QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) Well if you have to have two A's BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! If I had rotten tomatoes and other assorted rotten veggies, I would presently be lobbing them down to the Valley.
  15. Bad season my a**. Whether we end up at 102-60 or at 80-82, there is one thing that we can say all year that no one else can say...one thing that we should remember... WE ARE WORLD CHAMPS!!! Playoffs or not, repeat or not, I enjoyed this year for the fact that we are the World Champions of Major League Baseball...
  16. These guys are tired. Tired, tired, tired. they don't need to be shipped out, they need to be coddled in the off-season. Relax and recharge. There will be an upgrade in LF and there will be one pitcher gone. After that, I think the Ryan Sweeney era has begun in CF.
  17. QUOTE(VAfan @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) Sweeney over Pods? Certainly the defense would be better, but it is a little early to know whether Sweeney wouldn't start with a stretch of .200 hitting and not much power. Cintron over Uribe? Sure, in certain circumstances. But Cintron can't hit a good fastball, has no power, and doesn't walk any more often than Uribe. Ozzie said the other day that the guys who hit the best are going to be in the lineup. Well, in that case, Ozuna ought to hit against lefties, and Ross Gload or Rob Mackowiak ought to hit against right handers as the new platoon in LF. (I like Gload a little more, since he doesn't have to be removed if a lefty reliever comes into the game, while Mack is an automatic out against lefties this year. Plus, Gload never K's. But Mack's LF defense would be better, so flip a coin.) Sweeney, to my way of thinking, ought to be the new left handed platoon player with Brian Anderson in CF. I doubt he can be relied on to hit righties better than Gload and Mack right now. Iguchi should hit lead off, with Ozuna/Gload #2, since neither of them strike out much and both can bunt. I would also drop Thome to #5, and flip Crede and AJ. So, my lineup would be: Iguchi 2B Gload (Mack)/Ozuna LF Dye RF Konerko 1B Thome DH Crede 3B AJ C Sweeney/Anderson CF Cintron/Uribe SS I would pretty much platoon the guys with slashes b/w the names, including in-game platoons if the other team switches up relievers. This lineup would still be vulnerable to lefties, unless Juan Uribe can find his September form! Wow...I understand the Sox main goal is to get to the post-season, but that's a bit much this late in the season. I don't like taking Pods out more than just a platoon situation because Sweeney can't be on the post-season roster. If they would've brought him up in August...I would agree, but not now. Pods IS going to be your starting LF in the post-season. But, they should still continue to platoon him with Ozuna.
  18. After the diving catch by Dye yesterday, I think you can put him up in the ranks with good defensive players. He may not be a gold glove, but he is certainly above average. He has carried this team at times AND he is coming back from an injury. These are the years he should've had if not for that freak injury of fouling the ball off his leg. Ortiz is having a mammoth season, as usual, but this year, there are people close that DO play defense. If you ask me: 1) Dye 2) Ortiz 3) Mauer Morneau hasn't carried the team, Manny is HORRIBLE in LF and Jeter just doesn't do it for me.
  19. Anybody think this could hurt the Tigers? I thought he was pretty well liked in the clubhouse. I know Leyland won't put up with much, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet for the greater good of the team. And if they were going to decline his option for next year anyway... I don't care what the Tigers say, it's just weird.

    Pointless Facts

    Thomas Crapper did NOT invent the flush toilet, but he did help to popularize it. Otto Titzling did NOT invent the bra.
  21. The smartest thing Kinky every did was hire Jesse Ventura's campaign manager. Not running against, Perry, Strayhorn or Bell, but against apathy! GENIUS!!!
  22. And my first question is: Why doesn't Tony have a South African accent? Seriously, there's a lot worse than that...what's the big deal?

    Ninjas downtown

    Maybe the ninjas beat the pirates for the right to hand them out?
  24. I wonder if the descendents of the Illini tribes are offended by the name Illinois? Or perhaps by the town of Peoria? Or Kaskaskia? Or Cahokia? Maybe we should just change the name of all of those towns to something along the lines of Smith and Jones? I like it, this could be the new address: John Doe 123 Anywhere St. Chicago, Jones 60601 Yes, I do understand that some people can be insulted by the Chief, but there's a point where it's gone too far. The Chief is treated with the utmost respect. No baby-kissing. No hawking for the camera. No fights with other symbols. NO THROWING OF BURNING SPEARS INTO THE GROUND. No goofy smile. Not called Redskins. Actually, the biggest problem I have is that the NCAA is taking matters into it's own hands. This is an organization that is supposed to keep the playing fields even between colleges under its mantle. Not judge them on what they are called or what traditions they have. If someone wants to sue the university in a court of law, that's fine and I'll take that decision. But, the NCAA is not the authority on these matters.
  25. I'm sorry, is this the same Ozzie Guillen that won the World Series with this Sox team last year? The same one that is the first latin manager to win the WS? Ease up on the boys...this is a team that plays UP or DOWN to it's foes. They will play better when backed up to a wall...book it.
