  1. The Sox rotation is built on innings eaters...and Smoltz is not an innings eater anymore. He doesn't want to go to the bullpen, so he won't be coming to the Sox. Andruw, while being an offensive upgrade, isn't that big of a defensive upgrade. Maybe 5 years ago, he would be, but BA is doing well defensively. There are other parts of this team that needs an upgrade, and that might have been already solved with the trade for Riske. Honestly, this might be the first year that KW stands pat, barring injuries.
  2. How about this for a rule change...after the warning...next batter hit, both pitchers and both managers get ejected? So, in last nights case, when Riske hit Duncan after the warning, Riske, Guillen, LaRussa and whoever was in the game for the Cards are all tossed. OK, that's a dumb idea, but it evens it out a little.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 07:24 AM) Can you imagine what it feels like to be beating a team 10-1 and look up to see the team chasing you winning 20-2? Its gotta make you just shake your head. That's the kind of thing I was talking about. The Tigers are playing great, but against sub-par competition. The Sox have taken the Indians, Tigers, Rangers, Reds and now game 1 of the Cards series and stayed right with them, and the only way the Tigers gained ground was on an off-day. I mean, the Brewers are improved, but they aren't the Cardinals...and the Sox dropped a 20-spot on them.
  4. QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) You know, I was really dissapointed that Johnny-five didn't get to nail Ally Sheedy in the first Short Circuit film. They shared a few seductive glances, a slow dance too, but nothing came of it. I heard...that behind the scenes, Steve Guttenberg and Johnny 5ive were caught, um, canoodling, in a trailer. But you didn't hear that from me. /thread derailed
  5. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 01:24 AM) I'll say this. There is two LF's that quickly come to mind that make Pods' D look like Willie Mays in LF. I give you Manny Ramirez and Garrett Anderson. Ah yes, but he led the league in outfield assists.
  6. A bigger question...Why?
  7. According to Sportsline's rumor mill...the Angels could, I repeat, could be offering, Santana, Figgins and a high prospect. There is NO WAY I give up Figgins for Crawford. I know he's younger, but Figgins can play 6 positions.
  8. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) Basically the Cubs are the Marlins before going young, they can keep Lee and Zambrano, everyone else is available...the issue is that the guys left are either old, really crappy or a rental player so they aren't going to get too much back... Actually, the Cubs have some good young talent besides Z and Lee...Cedeno at short, Murton in OF and even that hosebag Barrett should all be kept. Dump Walker, Ramirez, wait out the Jones contract, unless someone REALLY wants him, ride out Pierre and you've got a lineup... the pitching staff, though? Shambles. Cut bait and move on.
  9. I"m not surprised...mechanics have been ripping people off for years...that's why it's so important to find an honest one. It's worth the extra cash to know that they are doing what you are paying for...
  10. This has to do with money. They could have stopped with the guy that molested the girl, but noooo, the family wants money. And who better to go after than a website that is free and open to anyone that wants to sign up! Let's not worry about the parents who should be sued for 1) a suit that should never have been brought in the first place and 2) not watching what their own daughter is doing. Actually, switch 1 and 2 around and that's a little closer to the truth.
  11. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) I think right now, it has to be Sweden. That could change, but I doubt it. Soccer! You brought her!
  12. Anything with Ted McGinley...the TV show killer.
  13. Red White and Blue was left off this list...why?
  14. I'm guessing there will be an automatic ejection in affect for that series. Unless it's some looping curveball that gets away. There won't be anything going on except a hard slide into second.
  15. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) I agree. He alone is the exception, and the antithesis, to the "good pitching stops good hitting" axiom. SFF As long as we are up 8-0 and no one is on base for him, I say, let him play!!!
  16. All of these "Power Rankings" are not cumulative. They are based on record + what they did the past week. The Mets absolutely raked, but overall, are they the best team? Last week they were...but if you include the whole season, head-to-head records, etc., I think you have the White Sox on top still.
  17. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) I've kept quiet for awhile, but, this probably takes the cake as the most moronic thread on this site for quite some time. After a crappy day, a good laugh is in order...and this thread provides that laugh.
  18. Let's see...I met and partied with the Egyptians, but not Robyn Hitchcock. I think I went to a party with Evan Dando...I was pretty ripped myself. Talked to Michael Hutchence for about 5 seconds (got a double take and a "Thank you" after saying, "Good show.") Ate Matthew Sweet's pizza... Man, I miss the Star Course days... Others, Poster Children and Hum, friends of friends. Met Joe Daniels from Local H.
  19. The Lehrer Report! JIMMY JIMMY BO BO!!!
  20. QUOTE(heirdog @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Your 2020 Chicago Whitesox: LF: Playing in grade school somewhere CF: Brian Nicola Anderson RF: Sweeney 3B: David Wright (signed as Free agent in 2019 off-season) SS: Valido 2B: Robbie Alomar III 1B: Playing stickball in the streets of the Dominican Republic right now C: F. Hernandez DH: Konerko ... You forgot that K-Dub will have re-acquired Robbie Alomar III for the 15th time in 2 years and that JC (Jurassic Carl) Everett will be the DH and still won't believe that the forkball ever existed.
  21. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) The entire NL West is only 2 games apart for crips sake. Maybe the "bloods" will be a good trading partner?
  22. This is exactly the kind of debate I was hoping for. I can see both sides. The Sox might feel the pressure BECAUSE they were supposed to have gotten better this year and yet, they are in 2nd place...BUT, they have Ozzie and haven't clicked on all cylinders yet, with the struggles of Uribe, Podsednik, BA, Garland and the inconsistency of the bullpen. This looks to be changing, though. The Tigers might feel the pressure BECAUSE they are playing out their asses and haven't gained anything on the White Sox, nor have they played very well against the White Sox, Red Sox or Yankees. BUT, they have Leyland, good experience in the dugout with I-Rod, Maggs and Inge as the, "s***, guys, let me remind you the way it USED to be around here," guy. Both teams have something to prove, because the AL Central ALWAYS has something to prove, so edge to the White Sox since they've already proved it and know what it takes. Detroit can play loose, because, what the hell, they've sucked for so long, even the wild card would look great. And yes, I understand it's only June, but teams have already started to trade for needs and the All-Star break is just around the corner, so, yeah, I think it's time the teams start to think about one another...
  23. I've got a good rule change, how about adding the short center position, like in softball, then we can totally do away with the shift.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) Its the CFs ball if he calls it. Its just like if the SS calls it on the IF its his ball... those two guys are in charge of their areas, so if Anderson calls a ball, Dye/Pods should be the ones backing off of it. I agree, but there was a play this weekend where Pods was calling it, he was under it and set, and Anderson cut in front of him. I understand it's the CF's ball, but he also has to understand that it's a lot easier for a corner OF to catch it if he's set then if he's running.
  25. This is just a question I pose to all you smart Soxtalkers... With the White Sox matching the winning ways of the Tigers the last couple of weeks, who's psyche is taking more of a hit: The White Sox, who despite winning, haven't made up any ground. The Tigers, who are playing great baseball, but can't separate themselves from the White Sox. I think in the long run, it's got to be the Tigers, because the Sox have been here before and we have the Ozzie factor. But, they have Leyland and he's one hell of a manager. What do you think?
