  1. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) I have a bad feeling that bad Dotel is going to show up today. Of course you do...you're a White Sox fan...
  2. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) : At holding runners on...
  3. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) If MacDougal comes in this game to lose it for us I will stomp my feet in an angry fashion. I will join you by shaking my fist violently to and fro in the air.
  4. QUOTE (Cochise @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) That makes this the 14th inning in a row of getting blanked. Well, when you put it that way...
  5. With all due respect...the Royals bats haven't exactly been tearing it up either. This series has been a hell of a pitchers duel. (BTW...5000th post! And it only took 5 years to do it. That's an average of...um...anyone here good at math?)
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) $1 says the twins win it in the 9th Yer on.
  7. Bloomquist is still playing? See, there is hope for D-Weezy!
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) Even with the addition of Holt, the Bears will be targetting a young WR. WR's usually take 1-2 years to truly develop into the league, with the third year typically being there breakout year. In a perfect world, the addition of Holt means that both Hester and Bennett should emerge this year and potentially breakout a year from now (Hester is closer than Bennett) and than your new draft pick is able to ease in this season, gain more time next season and than burst out two years from now. Basically put, Holt is the perfect stop-gap over a 2-3 year period. This year he's your best WR, next year he takes a step back, but is still very good and adds respect (not to mention he's a great mentor) and in year three he's more of a 3rd WR (if one of Bennett/Hester/Pick busts) or a 4th WR (and I think he sticks around because he's older at that point in his career and ideally the Bears have won a superbowl or are at least consistently competing for one so he sticks around to get the ring). Plus if you look at it, essentially the Bears have to spend zero picks on the WR or TE spot in the next couple years with really the only offensive positions you have to worry about being the oline (they can go heavy there) and RB (you'll want to make sure you have someone brought in that can step in if Forte goes down, imo, and given the importance of the RB position and the short life span, it wouldn't be a bad idea a year or two from now to take a back in the 2nd round again). So essentially, you go WR early this draft, than turn the attention the next 2-3 years to the defense, oline, and one RB pick (and maybe a WR or two later in the draft). Now someone will tell me that Clark is getting older, but I'll respond with our 3rd string TE being a freaking beast. The guy is a tremendous athlete, projects to be a great blocker, and has offensive ability and will be a great compliment to Clark (who I think will be gone after this season, unless he is willing to take a very reduced role). Bottom line, in one fell swoop, the Bears are instantly a player or two away from an elite offense (not just for one year, but a number of years). While I agree with your post, I think there is one thing you are forgetting. The familiarity of Bennett and Cutler. I know it's a different system and a faster game, but these guys played catch at Vandy. This could bring Bennett along faster than you are implying here. Under normal circumstances, I agree, but this is a mitigating factor. On a different note, whoever posted the offense, was that the depth chart you were thinking? Because I bet Hanie is your #3 QB still. Also, Garza is going to be the one who will probably lose his job over Beekman. Which would put Omiyale at RG.
  9. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) Best pitcher on the staff going today. Hopefully he can shut down their lefties and we get out of this offensive funk. Q needs to get going and so does Sexy. Shouldn't that be seh-SAY?
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) I like our pitching staff, I hate our offense. Those were my thoughts after our first win, and they are my thoughts after our first loss at well. Hopefully the defense of Josh Fields the first 2 nights wasn't a mirage, because we need our infield to show some good glovework to make up for our outfield in terms of defense. That was a hell of a throw from his knees, wasn't it?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) I think considering them "On notice" would be a good plan. Another ball comes flying at one of our guys' heads and then either the umps better warn people or the Royals take a hit. I think a 10-1 beatdown will deliver a good message.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) You still don't like seeing balls thrown at their head. That's true. It's bush league. But not enough for a retaliation.
  13. The other wonderful thing about Stoney being in the booth is now you have a hitter and a pitcher in the booth. The days of, "Wimpy/DJ, could you ever hit a pitch like that?" are over. Now we have a REAL color guy that can provide insight into WHY pitchers should or should not do certain things. Let Hawk take care of hitting and Stone take care of pitching. Love it.
  14. Anyone see the spiking that Aviles gave AJ at first? I know he was sliding back into first, but he lifted that foot a little. I agree with Steve...get some f***ing hits and blow this team out...there's your retaliation.
  15. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) Since i had no clue what the hell the shamrox were i looked them up, turns out they are no longer in existence. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Oh well.

    Road Trip

    QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) I'm intrigued with this hitching post you speak of. Is it really good? What would you recommend. I might take the women there. Just don't drink the f***ing merlot!
  17. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) I don't think the Bears will win the NFC North (Vikings will), but I think they can still get a wildcard spot, unless the NFC South and NFC East is really good again this season. The Sox are the biggest wildcard. Vikings??? With the great Sage Rosenfels as their QB? I don't think so. And why stop there? What about the Fire? How about the Shamrox? Sky? Bandits? Etc.... Let's get ALL of our local teams in the playoffs in 2009!
  18. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) they can leave, but the from what i've read it would take a vote in which the majority of people in cook vote for allowing them to leave. no way that happens, the city of Chicago would get a big vote out to keep the tax base of the burbs. the new county, if by some miracle happened, would also need to get new court buildings and stuff. The problem is that the people of Chicago are just as pissed at Stroger. So, what this vote does, more than anything else, is send a message to Toddie-boy that his days as Cook County Board President are going to over soon enough...like next election. Also, I wonder if those townships could sue to seceed? I bet that would make it to the Illinois Supreme Court and maybe past that.
