  1. I think the main thing that bugs me here is the fact that she is 9! Lets look beyond the rape and the health of the mother and go right to the age. Does the Catholic Church really believe that a 9 year old is ready to handle this? Even if she ends up giving the children up for adoption, the mental toll of pregnancy and childbirth would be devastating to a 9 year old. What if she gets post-partum depression? This would ruin her for life (if it hasn't already). The Catholic Church is wrong here. I do understand why they did it (see: Texsox post), but I absolutely and completely disagree with them.
  2. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) I am so excited with the difference Jeff Cox has made with our baserunning. 2 years in, and you can see the difference. Their slides look more professional as they get pegged by a batters length or so into the base. AND he said Cox!

  4. dmbjeff: If you want a team...ANY team to eat 90% of someones salary, you are going to have to give up A LOT. I don't care who it is. Any GM worth his salt isn't going to give another team a player, eat almost ALL of his salary and get a lifetime A ball player in return. Might as well just hold on to him. Kalapse: You're right, you don't know. Ever. Until the season plays out. You can look at all the stats you want. While that's a good base point, that doesn't mean it's going to be that way. I'm certainly not saying Wise is the best choice. Nor am I saying he's going to be a .280/.340 guy. All I'm saying is...before we all freak the f*** out...lets see how it plays out. In another thread, I predicted Getz is going to be leading off by May-ish. So, that should tell you what I think.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Give me a break. The Sox were very nearly the worst team in the AL in terms of OBP in the #1 and #2 lineup spots last year (3rd to last), borderline wasting the very best full-time #3 hitter in the league. Not only did he fail to upgrade these two spots but as it stands right now it looks like he managed to downgrade. Get creative, find someone, anyone that can get on base at a decent clip and maybe run a little to hit in at the top of the lineup, no excuses. Hell, he removed 2 players from the 2007 ballclub in Orlando Cabrera and Nick Swisher that are better top of the order hitters than what we have now. It doesn't take much to upgrade from Dewayne Wise, believe it or not these players do exist. I think he envisioned Jerry Owens or even more so Brent Lillibridge as his 2009 opening day leadoff hitters, unfortunately for him both proved this March that they're not major league quality hitters. When you say things like this just 2 weeks ago then turn around and hand the job to a player who's nearly the complete opposite of what you've described you deserve as much criticism as the fans can muster. So, who's stepped up? By default...it's Wise. Who else could it be? Who out there is THAT much better? Obviously, both Swisher and Cabrera burned their White Sox bridges, so they are out. Pierre and GMJ, as I said, are expensive and don't have fantastic OBPs either. So, Kalapse...who? And can you tell me for sure that KW didn't kick the tires to see if they were available/teams could match up in a trade? I'm disappointed too, but Pods surprised all of us, and all of baseball, by having a good year. Who's to say Wise can't do the same for a year? He's never been a full-time anything...so don't give me his past numbers.
  6. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) come on now, who is going to launch a lightsabre to Los while he is in his car? Lets be realistic here Why don't you just piss on our parade?
  7. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) I love KW to death but this squarely falls on his shoulders. When you know your field manager, dislikes the better option in BA, and you keep around a player who only has an OBP of .254 lifetime(makes me want uribe back) and expect him to make the right move, then it's the GM's fault. Doesn't KW have control of the 25 man roster, it's Ozzie's job to do with it as he sees fit.Unfortunately, Ozzie is stubborn and hates BA. Wise should have been cut or sent to AAA, plain and simple. BA should have been given CF. If we want to say BA can't hit either, fine, just put out a higher OBP guy in CF since we know defense isn't important to the White Sox brass, see Jr Griff and Swish. Or trade for GMJ or Pierre and have 90% of their salary eaten by the Angels or Dodgers. Hell their lifetime OBP are better than Wise or BA. and each brings some other good attribute as well GMJ, gold glove caliber D and Pierre SB's. I know these options suck too, but they are better. Here's the problem with your argument...you don't know what happened behind closed doors. Perhaps Kenny did nothing and decided to see what would happen if you opened the competition up between Wise, Owens and BA. OR, he knocked on doors, picked up the phone and tried to find said lead-off hitter? It takes two to tango. Pierre is passed his prime and more expensive. GMJ is not a lead off hitter either and more expensive. Who are you willing to give up for the Dodgers or Angels to pick up 90% of said salaries? Floyd? Danks? Alexei? Because you are going to have to give up a proven or way high upside commodity for that to happen. Enough with the hate people! The market did not dictate going out and spending money this year. What this says to me is that the organization didn't develop a lead-off hitter. Or can't. But, now with the change of direction in the minors, hopefully that will change. To me, it's a lot harder to fault a GM for something they DIDN'T do, than something they DID do.
  8. Best part of the 2009 season as it stands right now: Everyone is 0-0.
  9. Usually I switch back and forth between Mully and Hanley and Mike and Mike in the morning... Waddle and Silvy (and Steve, c'mon man! WADDLE! not Waddel. He played for the Bears for 6 years although I don't think he remembers half of it with all the shots he took) in the mid-morning...and then I switch back and forth between Afternoon Saloon and B&B, although I think I listen to B&B more, but I am getting sick of their holier-than-thou attitudes.
  10. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 06:20 AM) Did the photo he handed you look like Han Solo? If so, then yeah, probably a bounty hunter. Boba Fett? Boba Fett?!?! Where???
  11. For all you hoping for him...well, stop hoping. Source: ESPN Spring Blog.
  12. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 12:44 AM) I'd like to go to Africa, and not to some fancy resort in South Africa. I'm talking deep into the bush jungle, civil war, child soldiers, blood diamond, tusk poaching, AIDS epidemic, safari, hard core s***. And I would say...Good luck with aaaaallllll that.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Is it set in stone that Wise will be leading off? I've been hoping for a while that Getz would win the 2B job and lead off, with Anderson in CF. If I may add my .02...I bet Wise or Anderson leads off on Opening Day (depending on who the Sox are facing) and Getz will be down in the order...but it won't be for long.
  14. Lefty was definitely the best. The other two were lacking something...like a "Great Googly-Moogly" moment.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) "Franks and beans!" /thread
  16. Been/Experienced: 1. Birth of my son 2. Bulls 1.8 second/JoJo English-Derek Harper fight game from the court 3. Final Hawks game at the ol' Chicago Stadium 4. Italy (yep, all of it) 5. For some odd reason, I was at a lot of the Sox games Ozzie would homer. And you know, that didn't happen very often. Runners-up: Salzburg, Mardi Gras, Oktoberfest, first Lollapalooza, first ACL Fest, Roatan, Honduras. Want to do: 1. Far East/all of it. 2. African Safari 3. Any kind of glacier 4. White Sox World Series game 5. Fenway Too many others to list Runners-up...OK, I'll list a couple: Russia, Greece, Spain, Ski in the Rockies.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) I think the Sox have another good chance. I love our 1-3 in the rotation and our love our 3-7 in the order since I think PK is going to have a great comeback year. Nobody gave us a shot in 2005 or last year and we won 12 playoff games in those 2 years combined. HILARIOUS!!! Also, nice spelling for being wicked cocked, Steve!
  18. Happy Birthday Mark! Alas, my birthday is lacking. Danny Ardoin, Jerome Walton, Bobby Ayala, Ernie Young, Terry Puhl, Alan Ashby, Jim Bluejacket, Ducky Holmes, Buttons Briggs. Whew.

    Dreams

Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you? Why am I the only one that has that dream?
  20. Can BA bunt? If so, I know he's not fast, but I also know Ozzie likes the bunt (or would if he had someone who could do it). Also, if Getz can prove he can hit ML pitching by May, he'll be at the top of the order. JMHO.
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) Ahh but you forgot about a guy who might be better than Blanco with the Braves and its not Schafer. It's Josh Anderson who is out of options. He was drafted in the 4th round of the 2003 draft. BA was a 1st rounder in the same draft. He has a .344 OBP in almost 3000 minor MiL AB. BA had a .364 OBP in 1136 MiL AB. Josh A. in 2 abbreviated seasons with Houston and Atlanta has a .315 BA and a .364 OBP with 14 XBH in 203 AB. In the last 4 seasons in the minors Josh A. has 175 SB averaging near 44 a yr. I read he's a better fielder than Blanco and over all is considered a good fielder. Don't know if he's available but he's fast, can field and can hit which makes him better than Wise, Owens, Blanco (another slap hitter , not the best fielder type). He's basically the same height , weight and age as BA except faster , bats LH and slightly less power. Would be cool seeing the Sox with Josh and Brian Anderson. I got to see him at Round Rock, Houston's AAA affliate, and he was, by far, the best player on that team. Then again, that team wasn't very good. But the fans treated him the way they treated Chris Burke, who's a 9.5 on the Grindy Scale. TTFWIW
  22. Happy Birthday! And I think Murray would have Greg bring the cheese plate...but only 12 pieces for your 16 friends.
  23. If BA or Fields only leads off against LHSP, would that be so bad? I dont' think so.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) Here are my goals this off season: Tisdale gains 75 lbs, otherwise he's worthless Mccamey and Davis decide they want to play defense and that they want to play hard for 40 minutes...not just when the shots are falling and the team is winning. Legion hits a shot at some point in his illinois career Jeffrey Jordan gets an offensive game - he's turning out to be Chester Frazier Jr with better athleticism. Good D, still no O. I think next year we're going to have the same type of season - top 3-4 in the big ten with a chance at the title, a 4-6 seed in the tourney, and perhaps a run into the second weekend if the matchups are right. Who do you want? Jens Kujawa? Seriously, though, Tisdale needs to get in the weight room. McCamey yes, Davis no. I think Davis plays good D when he's on a like player. He just needs to be more consistent. Legion needs confidence and hopefully he'll get it over the summer. Jordan is playing a role. I think if asked, he would pick up the O. I think they will definitely be top 3-4, but could be top 2 depending on how well the freshmen do when they come in...
