  1. Are there any stories on Kenny's status? Is he basically assured to come back?
  2. Dunn's struggles have truly been a mystery. The article properly points to him as a model of consistency with regards to power numbers and a typically strong walk rate. It also highlighted that he never really had a strong Batting Average: 2001: .262 2002: .249 2003: .215 2004: .266 2005: .247 2006: .234 2007: .264 2008: .236 2009: .267 2010: .260 I know many here will say that OPS and OBP are the king stats by which hitters should be judged, but despite strong power numbers there were some fairly weak years there hitting for average, particularly 2003, 2006, and 2008. While Dunn only has logged 56 BB this year, his walk rate is actually declined from typical. Extrapolated over a full 650 AB season, he'd have about 96 walks which actually beats last year's 77 walks. However, it's a pretty big dip compared to 2004-2009 (where he'd have 110 BB per 650 ABs). If Dunn were only struggling with hitting, rather than both hitting and walking, I'd believe it were a physical problem. But as but SLG and OBP are far deflated, I think there's something to Guillen's analysis.
  3. Have we reached the point where we'd be better off having the pitchers hit for Adam Dunn?
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) I went back and forth, but not jumping on this rumored deal would be just that, there's no worse way to state it... and I knew it. You don't pass on a Rasmus for an old reliever and a soon-to-walk mistake you don't need. How can you call Jackson a mistake? In 29 games (just shy of a full season), he's pitched 190 innings with 78 earned runs (~3.7 ERA). Maybe the means of his acquisition were a mistake, but he's definitely been effective.
  5. How about Jackson, Thorton, and Rios? I'd do that in a heartbeat to get Rios off the books.
  6. When does Dunn become the albatross Soriano is?

    It can...

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) Our pen will get straightened out. Adam Dunn is back in the lineup. Juan Pierre can't keep making so many errors and mental mistakes. We're 7 and 5 after playing some of the worst ball possible... Let's take this as a sign that this team will be down right dangerous when our ship is righted. I dunno, it's such a shame the pen sucks. There may come a time when our pitching or hitting tail off a bit and we need the pen to pick it up.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) Ok, it's been cute and all, and I guess we're lucky to be 7-5 after 12 games, but Sergio Santos needs to be the closer for the next 150 games. Enough. And I'm almost ready to say Sale needs to go to Birmingham to start 23 games. I agree that at this point Santos should get a shot closing, but I don't think there's really much evidence to suggest he'll succeed in the role. There really isn't much to suggest he'll fail, either. He's a total unknown and I don't think that warrants full time promotion for the rest of the season.
  9. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) I still don't and never will regret getting rid of Jenks. I'm not gonna second guess it just because Thornton has somehow fallen off the platform. Again, this second-guessing stuff is asinine. As far as J.J. he just decided to take a more hefty sum from a team that could end up finishing in last place this year. I may not have done so here, but I definitely first guessed losing Jenks.
  10. So why are neither Bobby Jenks nor JJ Putz on this roster? Somebody f***ed that up.
  11. The closer isn't on our major league roster, that's for sure.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2011 -> 01:27 PM) He's not there already? I don't know who you rank clearly ahead of him. Maybe James, maybe Howard, maybe Bryant, depends a bit on your team. Tough to make a case for James and/or Wade considering the relative station of the Heat and the Bulls.
  13. That's just Manny bein' Manny right there.
  14. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) I think these waivers are irrevocable Is that true? I thought it just meant LAD can only try to make a deal with the Sox, recall waivers, or let it go through.
  15. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) He struck out the side in a perfect inning yesterday. Maybe we could trade for him? We need bullpen help!
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) I mean, the division is within reach, and Manny would probably be a difference maker, addressing the team's single biggest need. The bullpen would like to know where you've been lately and why you haven't returned its calls.
  17. Hey everybody! We're all gonna get laid!
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) So far we want a manager who relies only on statistics to make in game decisions, holds out for the 3 run bomb, and has great manners. Isn't that Jerry Manual?
  19. The b**** of it is, if we had kept Thome, we probably woulda been screwed too. I don't know how, but I'm sure we would have.
  20. I was at the game last night and I'd have to say my favorite moment so far this entire season was the beer shower for the kid.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) Jim Bowden's talking like the Dunn deal is done. JimBowdenXMFOX Rios, Konerko, Dunn and Quentin.....love the middle of the lineup...love the balance Dunn Brings...love the make-up he'll bring 4 minutes ago via web So we wouldn't be moving Quentin for Dunn.
  22. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) SoxTalk Over-valued prospect disdain and anger commence in 3....2....1.... 400k for Hudson or $8.5M for Jackson.
  23. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) weren't there rumblings that the bosox could deal ortiz if they fall out of it? I was also thinking Boston could be a potential seller.
