  1. Actually, sounds like he's calling out Schilling for when he said if the accusations weren't true, why wouldn't you sue the person.
  2. It's funny seeing Lilly pitch with the wind blowing out, but the Reds starter, Dumatrait, is one of the worst big league starters I've ever seen.
  3. Richar doesn't seem to be ready for the majors.
  4. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 02:15 AM) Do I understand this correctly -- if any of the remaining teams are unable to sign their first selection, they're guaranteed the same spot next season minus one slot? What I want to know is, if the Royals are the worst team in baseball concluding this season, would the first and third selection for next season's draft be guaranteed for them? If this is true, then it's really going to effect our draft position. We could potentially have the third worst record and not pick until seventh. Whatever the process, it's better for everyone if every player signs. Although it would make sense that the one season where we're in position to draft in the top 10 we're screwed somehow. Yes, I believe you are correct that the Royals would have those high picks.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:51 AM) A slappy speedster is not a bad thing! That can win a hell of a lot of games for a team. A bad slappy speedster or a slappy speedster who loses his speed due to a long series of injuries is a bad thing, and that's been our problem at the top the last 2 years. And that's what I'm referring to. The Sox were deadset on having a speedy hitter at the top of their order this year, and when they saw that Pierre and Roberts would cost too much, they brought Pods back instead of possibly going the OBP route for a leadoff hitter.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:53 AM) After tonight, they will be 3.5 games out. I can't believe Cubs are on their way to being .5 game out after playing so bad the last two weeks. Huge series this weekend for the Cardinals, as they need to win at least 5 of their remaining 8 games vs the Cubs this year.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:49 AM) Erstad must get his at bats somewhere. I'm sure Jim's fine. (Actually, it's really not a bad idea for Jim to sit for a game a week to 10 days or so just to try to keep him a little healthier anyway. That would be especially important if we ever could make a playoff run) Agreed, no reason to play him every game the rest of the way. However, it would be a lot smarter to sit him against a lefty starter.
  8. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:46 AM) One of the reasons the personnel is so bad is because Ozzie wants the Erstad/Mack/Cintron/ and assorted other crap hitters on this team; and because he has no patience with young hitters. We're damn lucky that the Sox won the WS before Ozzie had a chance to screw up the personnel. Ozzie gets the most out of his personnel...the personnel isn't very good and he has major influence in who is on this roster. Well said! Ozzie doesn't want an OBP guy as a leadoff hitter....he wants one of his slappy speedsters instead.
  9. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:37 AM) Gonna be tough. Thome is out of the lineup tonight. Hurt again?
  10. Brewers are going to end up below .500 this year.
  11. It's a fantastic show. If you want to start a debate, ask someone who they think is the hottest girl on the show. Many different opinions.
  12. I can't wait to hear Hawk complain about this call for the rest of the year. It was real close at first. And yes, what a sad statement when you're down 2 runs with a runner on, and you have two of the weakest hitters in all of baseball come up to face a lefty. I've never been more disappointed with our team's offensive personnel and future than I am now.
  13. For some reason, seeing that Pods has 7 RBIs this year made me laugh. This is so sad.
  14. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 03:43 AM) Have we ever (in recent memory) had a play like that go in our favor? Where a guy is out by 10 feet, but the ball rolls away on a routine tag/slide... Not sure, but we've had some guys called safe on creative slides quite often over the last couple of years. I'm so unimpressed by what Garland is throwing up to the plate these days. He's costing himself a lot of money.
  15. Fields just rules against LHP. Thome finds another way to kill a rally.
  16. Our starters seem to be giving up a ton of homers lately.
  17. I missed a lot of games, but does Richar every hit the ball hard? Also, Andy Gonzalez shouldn't be leading off in AA or AAA.
  18. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 02:49 AM) Thome is such a rally killer these days. First two guys in the line up get on and nothing from the 3-4-5 guys. When he isn't hitting homers, he is useless. His numbers are average, but very mediocre for him, since the ASB.
  19. These lefty lineups right now are just embarassing.
  20. Aramis with another chance in late innings coming up here. The Reds should be up by more than 5 runs right now, but they've had some terrible base running. They have 16 hits tonight.
  21. Brewers on the way to losing the 15th straight game in which Capuano has started. Ned Yost does a horrible job of leaving his starters out on the mound way too long when they clearly don't have anything.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) With all the shortstop talk... am I the only one who thinks that priorities number 1 through 3 are the outfield positions? With shortstop being behind them? Uribe is painful, but he is a stellar defender and does bring some power to the table (as well as a relatively cheap option). I don't want to see him next year, but on a relative basis, the OF scares me a lot more right now. His defense has been average this year, and when you add that to his terrible batting average, he needs to go. I know a certain person who will refute this, but look for the Sox to make a hard run at Tejada this offseason.
  23. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) You never know how things are going to shake out. The Tigers, who were supposedly going to rule the Central for the next four or five years, have regressed dramatically on the mound and some of their vets are beginning to show their age. The Twins will be losing Hunter AND Santana soon. And Shapiro is employing the same slugger-heavy approach that failed John Hart twice in the '90s. As long as the Sox have solid starting pitching, a solid bullpen, and solid hitters in the middle of their lineup, I like their chances to be competitive next year. And Thome isn't? This team needs to add another big bat this offseason.
  24. I have a feeling KW will overpay for a reliever, and not via the FA route. Instead, it will be in a trade.
