  1. QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 19, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) i disagree. Those bad moves were made early in his GM days. I think he has shown great ability to see talent and pull the trigger (ie mccarthy for danks). That wasn't a veteran for a prospect though. I've made no secret of my disgust for the Garcia trade, which is the type of trade we'll see if we go into rebuilding mode. QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 19, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) i'd like to know who you guys want to lead this team that is available right now. c'mon, there is nobody really any damn good out there, and lets face it, ozzie has had back to back 90 win seasons. if you want to b**** about this year then i think a lot of it is on kenny. no lead off, bad CF, and really what is a lineup that is quickly getting kinda old. How come no one addresses the fact that Ozzie wants a team with a speedy leadoff hitter? If he didn't care about that, then maybe we'd have more of a leadoff hitter focused on OBP. Considering our 3/4/5 sluggers, a 1 and 2 hitter who can get on base at a high rate is a hell of a lot more important than being able to play the mythical Ozzieball.
  2. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ May 19, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) KW has a good track record as Sox GM. And if they lose a couple of free agents, they can also sign a couple of free agents. I just hope the Sox can win today, because if this team ever loses two in a row again, some people here will be ready to throw in the towel again and clamor for a fire sale. My biggest concern with KW as a GM if we're going into rebuilding mode is that he has a bad history of trading veteran players for prospects.
  3. QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) How so, all we hit are fly balls and pop ups, some of those should make their way into the bleachers. Marquis is a sinker baller (much better sink than he had last year when he was a pitching machine), Vazquez throws high fastballs. Also, Cubs have more power in their lineup right now than the Sox do.
  4. Wind blowing out doesn't favor us today.
  5. Hopefully Crede won't stub his toe and be out again.
  6. QUOTE(beck72 @ May 19, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) Just what was the alternative to Podsednik in LF? How have those free agents done that were talked about--Roberts, Matthews, etc? Pods was worth the risk, IMO. Even if those guys have respectable numbers, signing one of those bums to long term deals would have been far worse than signing Pods to a 1 yr deal, even if Pods helps little in the 2nd half [which he should]. They are very likely to be considered overpaid soon. KW getting Erstad for the OF at least allowed the sox to give Sweeney a look. And Sweeney's a better option for 2007 and going forward than anything the sox could have picked up in the offseason. I disagree with this. I predict he'll be sent down in 2 days.
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:50 AM) If A.J. started at catcher, and the other team brings in their LOOGY for Thome, why wouldn't you pinch hit with Hall? Makes sense to me. All I know is that this isn't the last time we've heard about this situation with AJ/Hall. It's sad that Ozzie actually does the right thing by starting Hall today, and it backfires on him in the press. I can actually see why Ozzie said he's sick of the s*** he receives in the media. Of course, responding the way he does is just going to make it worse though.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:45 AM) I don't really understand what you're getting at here. The Podsednik situation was a complete f***up, I'm pretty sure there's good reason to b**** about it. With the news today that he'll be out even longer than expected it just makes the whole thing even worse. How does someone slip and end up missing half the season? I guess it doesn't matter though, as we know how much of a mental midget he is dealing with getting over injuries when he's playing.
  9. It's really too bad we couldn't trade Mackowiak for Brady Clark. We have to keep Cintron on the roster, as we need a back-up SS. I was thinking about this earlier, and the only bench player I want to see back next year is Toby Hall. We need him to back-up Konerko.
  10. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:43 AM) no, people are just taking b****ing to a new level. When we lose people b****, when we win people b**** less. This is the most pissed off fan base I have ever been a part of. Seriously though, the partpoker guy should take his affilate linked thread out of SLAM and insert an affiliate linked tampon thread, We've been saying this about Pods since the second we re-signed him. Even the people on this site that refuse to ever criticize KW or Ozzie were saying "don't worry, they signed him just to trade him". I guess us being the most pissed off fan base makes sense, as we have the most pissed off manager as well.
  11. Our bench is terrible constructed. Our utility players don't have any power and are rather poor defensively. Terrero has no business being in the majors.
  12. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:36 AM) AVG .303 | HR 1 | RBI 2 | OBP .378 | SLG .455 you make no f***ing sense. At least make sense. Was he worth his salary? no. I don't care if he played 1 game, those numbers are worth a dollar. KW went cheap and brought back Pods after he freaked out seeing what free agents were getting on the market. From everything I've heard in the media and behind the scenes, the Sox wanted nothing at all to do with Pods this year due to injury issues and lack of production. Signing Pods signaled KW's inability to get creative and find this team an everyday LF. If he doesn't play another game this year, he'll be remembered more for his game-winning header than anything else.
  13. Ozuna's received way, way too much playing time lately. He's been a horrible major league player basically since his injury last year. No one appreciates his hustle more than I do, but if he's getting more than 5 or 6 at-bats in a week, that's too many.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:34 AM) Since Sweeney has come up, Walk has been on a mission to fix that line drive swing and get some power out of him. It seems that his progress is moving forward. Ozuna must like Timo wouldnt have a place of most major league rosters. I know we both think the world of Walker, but there's nothing any hitting coach can do with Sweeney until he gets more strength.
  15. In terms of in-game managing and player evaluating, I'd definitely choose Manuel over Guillen. Guillen's big advantage over Manuel was supposed to be player relations and motivation. There's been rumblings about some clubhouse issues lately.....and we have to get this AJ bulls*** to stop immediately.
  16. Since Pods seems to be the slowest healer in history, it's really time for KW to start looking seriously at acquiring a new full-time LF. According to this article, Pods isn't expected back until after the All-Star break. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines I don't know how much more I can watch with the terrible trio of Sweeney, Mackowiak, and Ozuna. There's about a 90 pct chance when those guys bat of a ground out. Once again though, bringing back Pods for this year was a terrible signing, even if he cost $1.
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 19, 2007 -> 01:01 AM) Like I've said for the past 2 years, nobody sparks the Cleveland Offense like Cliff Lee. Think the Tigers are still a little upset over last year's WS? Yeah, there was quite the ovation when Miller fielded a bunt cleanly for an out. These two teams are damn good, even with all of the injuries they've had. Just a fantastic day of baseball today with the Sox losing, Cubs winning, Tigers/Indians winning, and the rest of the NL Central losing.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 19, 2007 -> 12:57 AM) LMAO, and everyone said the games against the Cubs don't mean s***. Look at the uproar. Yesterday, we were feeling good. Had a lot of momentum and were playing much better. Today, we are nowhere close to contention and Ozzie is worse than Jerry Manuel. I can't fathom how anyone would say the Cubs games don't mean s***. I hate those f***ers so much.
  19. Super....looks like we're going to lose ground to every AL Central team today. Remember when people thought Brian Anderson was just as good, and would be better in the future, than T. Hunter?

    Ozzie

Fascinating article about the whole thing. KW probably wants to punch something right now. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Astf...p&type=lgns
  21. Must be nice to be the Indians....they get down 4-1 in the 2nd, and three batters later, their game is tied. Andrew Miller is pitching for the Tigers, and he looks pretty good. If he can pitch well for them this year, I see no reason how they don't make the playoffs. Watching these offenses makes me so jealous.
  22. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ May 18, 2007 -> 11:15 PM) Yet, you suggest he puts in Thornton, who hasn't been much better than MacDougal this season. Is that putting us in the best position to win? Over the last few weeks, Thornton has looked very good. His fastball is up near 97 mph, which is great to see.
  23. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ May 18, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) im not trying to say that he sucks or got lucky. im just saying that any other hitter could have done what he did in that situation. i think everyone knew it was a fastball coming. MacDougal is probably the last pitcher on our team who regularly throws a first pitch fastball down the plate.
  24. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 18, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) That is one issue I had. I like Mac when he sets up his breaking stuff and uses his fastball off of that instead of the other way around. He has nasty movement on his fastball, but way too often that movement takes it back to the middle of the plate. I would've also liked AJ in to catch him. He's extremely difficult to catch for someone who never has. The only two mistakes I really put on Ozzie today in the game were bringing in MacDougal to face a lefty hitter, and not bringing in AJP to catch in the bottom of the 7th. I know that no one cares, but there's a reason I'm not lumping this game along with the two I mention in my signature.
  25. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 18, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) He is having enough trouble hitting in AAA this season it seems, I definitely dont want him in the majors unless Joe is going to be out for an extended amount of time. I thought he's still crushing lefties though? It's just too bad that all the political s*** happened over the offseason and we never let Fields get some playing time in left field.
