  1. Dye's bat speed looks terrible. He's late on mediocre fastballs right down the plate. Out of all the guys we say this about, he's the one who looks like he's lost a step.
  2. Will Buehrle have to be Cintron's cut-off man tonight on grounders to 3rd?
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) Crede's back is acting up. May go on DL. Ha....time for the Fields era to start.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 07:56 PM) 2004 #1 draft pick Homer Bailey will make his major league debut this friday for the Reds against the Indians. A friend saw him pitch last weekend, and said he looked awful!
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 06:49 PM) Fathom wins! But then again, he's always negative, so if anything went wrong, of course he was going to be right. Hey, I've said some positive things lately, especially regarding people like Josh Fields, Jerry Owens, Boone Logan, etc.
  6. QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) Uhh what facts did I not get straight? I think it's time someone steps up and says something when you talk out of both sides of your mouth. It's easy sitting on the sidelines being able to cover your ass and when things go wrong you can say "I told you so". Meanwhile, the reason this team sucks is NOT the reason you predicted at the start of the year with your doomsday attitude, in fact, it's the exact opposite, which is my point. That said, how can you sit there saying you have ANY more of a clue than the people you b**** about that are running this team??? Well, I guess I was one of the few then that thought our offense was going to be mediocre this year. The signs were there with the aging players, the poor 2nd half last year, the 2/3 pathetic outfield situation, and our inability to hit lefty pitching.
  7. QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 06:29 PM) I recall you making that post about Jenks and all of these stats about him declining since around the allstar break last year. Sure, the stats showed considerable decline, but sheesh, the guy was still 41 out of 45. Would you take that out of a closer every year? Jenks was really bad the last few months of the season. When you combine that with his shoulder discomfort to start Spring Training, as well as his talk about velocity.....then yes, you have to be concerned about him. Jenks has still yet to prove he can go an entire major league season without hitting the wall. It wasn't just the blown saves for Jenks that hurt us during the 2nd half last year. He lost quite a few games when he was brought in for a non-save situation.
  8. Great post kalapse. We were pissed cause KW didn't do enough to improve a team that struggled during the 2nd half of last season and you could see with your own eyes that they were losing a step.
  9. Bernstein has a lot of good sources within the Chicago teams. He's been dead on with a lot of his inside Sox things the last few years.
  10. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) I was down there for a while, here's why, its because they wanted him to focus on his swing, get him more comfortable at 3B because they were/are concerned with Crede's back. They felt asking Fields to learn another position was a bit much. Agree or not, that was the reason. And now it appears he is responding with the bat. They worked with him about learning the strike zone better too and his walk totals are up. I understand the Spring Training part....it's during Winter Ball that he should have played out there. I know there was the whole mess with the coaches, but we should have found him a better situation then.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 04:08 AM) Why is everyone so down on a player's k's when his OBP is almost .400? Thome strikes out a TON, but he is the best hitter we have. Fields is improving guys, and he is cheap, young and this is the direction that the team needs to go. I don't get it....so many of the people down on Fields probably think Sweeney is going to be a star. I think it's the other way around. Fields has a very high ceiling, and he brings more athleticism to this team. If there is one prospect in the minors I don't want the Sox to trade, it's Fields.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:56 AM) Gio just left the game after 2 and a third scoreless for Birmingham. Uh oh, that smells like an injury. That's bad news.
  13. How far was Thome's homer?
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:52 AM) Bases loaded 0 out in Milwaukee. It all stated on a leadoff strikeout...except Barrett dropped the ball and couldn't throw the runner out. Brewers on pace to leave 20 men on base.
  15. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:37 AM) Clutch my ass He's so worthless at the plate. He doesn't contribute in any offensive facet to the team.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:02 AM) How in the world did this team just go and forget how to bunt? That would mean they knew how to bunt in the first place. I love bunting in the 2nd inning against a very good offense and one of the slowest guys in baseball on 2nd base. Great managing!
  17. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:51 PM) Ya, I just take everything out during the game, then when it's over...which is usually like the 7th inning...I'm over it. Exactly! I actually really enjoyed the last 24 hours or so on this site when talking about the future of this team, etc. I know every Ozzie or KW debate is going to get heated...but that's what is great about this site.
  18. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:47 PM) And we strand 2. What the f*** else is new? It's a shame that I don't even get that worked up anymore if we win or lose. I was fine about 5 minutes after the game yesterday. The past 2 years, it would take me about an hour to move on with my life, as strange as that sounds.
  19. 5 responses to my question....I love you guys! QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) you know, the kind of hits we never ever get. Heaven forbid we ever score from first on a double also.
  20. Could Owens or another outfielder have caught Abreu's double?
  21. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) Are you f***ing serious Iguchi/ How bad was his fielding error?
  22. Two things: - How could anyone argue the Colon trade was a gamble? It was probably the most lopsided deal in Sox history, and a main reason it was completed was thanks to the Yanks trying to make sure the Red Sox didn't get him. - Every pitcher I know loves to pitch in the cold.
  23. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) Ok I can agree with that. I like that plan and I like your idea. I don't watch Abreu enough to know that he is lazy. I heard that Texiera is kinda like Soriano last year - a whole lotta talk. Good prospects don't always pan out. That is the only problem I have with that. I want ML ready talent and teams are reluctant to give that up because it is cheap productive talent that they can keep for years. We would absolutely hate Abreu. He's lazier than Pods at the plate and in the field....and he make 533% more money. Of course, I'm sure he'll kick our ass now this series.
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) Personally, I think Fields is going to be a strikeout machine, but I think the Sox should see what they have with him pretty soon if they aren't going to trade him. You might as well do it now. Its not like they'll be losing much, Crede has been awful. It's a freaking joke that we didn't get him playing time in LF during the offseason and then in Spring Training.
  25. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) So in other words F-U-C-K the real thing - lets go after cheap prospects who MAY be good. What if they got Abreu for half the salary then went after 2 relievers and brought up Chris Getz? I doubt we ever spend that much for relievers anyway. It doesn't seem very smart to spend that type of money on relievers. You usually don't get your money's worth. If he wants to spend that much money on an outfielder for next year, then hold on to Dye the rest of this year, get the high compensation picks, and then go after Ichiro. Bobby Abreu is a bad baseball player. He's lazy, and his power numbers make it look obvious he was a steroid user. Oh, and the last thing we need is another guy who can't his lefty starting pitching. I was reading a scouting report on Abreu the other day about how he looks like he's done. BTW, Jermaine Dye is likely to be the best power hitter, along with Teixeira, that could possibly be available come the trading deadline. You absolutely should expect to get good prospects in return.
