Jermaine Dye or Aaron Rowand?
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) It's pretty simple really. Arow is not going to be as good as many of you here want him to be. All we will read for the next 3 years is what a let down Rowand is, and why did we get this POS back, and on and on and on... We need a new, "soxunknown" quantity in CF. What that is, I don't know... but for all the Arow love around here, it's a setup for a HUGE letdown when he's not playing for a contract. I don't think there's nearly as much of this going on as you make it seem. If it is there, I'm not seeing it.

2008 White Sox
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) True, but Johan Santana was damn near an automatic win, and they always had an outstanding bullpen. Go backs to that theory of pitching wins championships. Also, look where that lineup got them in the playoffs against other pitching, an early exit. You tend to win playoff games with dominant starting pitching, an effective bullpen, solid defense and 3 run homers.

2008 White Sox
There's no reason for me to believe that Crede will be anything more than pure s*** next season.

2008 White Sox
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 07:25 AM) After dealing Linebrink last month, I got the impression that San Diego decided that they want to hold on to Bell for quite some time. If KW could swing Greene and Bell + 1 or 2 prospects for Garland and Anderson, I dont think I would be terribly upset. Garland and Peavy would have some mean ERAs in Petco together That would be a pretty weak trade, San Diego has a near barren system, I like Khalil Green but he's really not that good of a player and you always have to be weary of trading for Padres relief pitchers especially someone like Bell who was so terrible with the Mets and has now seemingly turned it around as a 29 year old in the San Diego bullpen. Kevin Towers has a knack for picking up bad relievers, finding a place for them to succeed in his pen then dumping them and they never find that same success again. There has to be a better fit out there like say, the Dodgers who actually have some talent in their minor league system. I mean a soon to be 30 year old reliever who has had one good year, a SS who's incredibly similar to Uribe (+ injury concerns) and a C to B- prospect or two for Jon Garland and Brian Anderson? No thanks.

Backup 1B/OF
Yeah that's right Erstad's option is actually $3.5M, Mackowiak's is $3.25M I always get those 2 mixed up.

Backup 1B/OF
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) Ozzie won't use him as that if he's kept on the team IMHO. Get rid of him. Yep, there's no way Erstad would be relegated to bench duties with KW and Ozzie running this team. He'd still start in over 80% of his GP next year which means he'll spend half the season on the DL once again.
-
Backup 1B/OF
Ertad's 2008 option is worth $3.25M. There will be better options out there like say Mark Sweeney or Rob Mackowiak. It's time to end the Erstad experiment.

Cubs Claim Pods off Waivers
Since the Cubs claimed Pods they were the only team the Sox could trade him to, the deadline for a deal to get done was today at noon. The deadline has passed and no deal was made therefore he can not be traded for the rest of the season.

Cubs Claim Pods off Waivers
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 11:33 AM) There's no way that Pods goes anywhere now... KW will want too much. He can't be traded anyway.

They have until noon.

Bobby Jenks...
There isn't even a mention of it in ESPN's News section on their MLB front page. Maybe they don't even know it happened.

Bobby Jenks...
Still not a damn thing from ESPN.com either.

Dotel's value
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) So how about now? Well, the already ridiculous asking price just tripled.
-
Bobby Jenks...
Can you imagine how big this would be if Jonathan Papelbon had tied the record? There would be countless updates, in-progress video from ESPN and the MLB section of their website probably wouldn't have a picture of Aaron Harang on the front page right now. It's a shame Bobby will get so little national attention for an amazing accomplishment.

White Sox vs. Mariners, 8/12/07 (L)
That was a pretty cool moment. Uribe is always in on these big moments.

And why isn't Richar playing? I didn't know a 24 year old needed 2 days off a week.

Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
QUOTE(max power @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 01:34 AM) So if you avoid arbitration one year by resigning that player for a year, is he automatically arbitration eligible the next year? A player is eligible for arbitration in years 4-6 of his pro career, signing a one year deal to avoid arbitration just means the two sides don't want to go infront of an arbitrator and instead are able to come to a consensus on the player's worth for that season. It doesn't add on any years of arbitration eligibility. After the 6th season the player becomes a free agent.
-
Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
Podsednik is arbitration eligible next season, if he's with the White Sox he will make NO LESS than $2.32M but more often than not a player does not receive a drop in salary during his final year of arbitration even after a bad season. I can't see him making any less than $2.7M but as much as $3M.

Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
QUOTE(bkmoney @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 01:02 AM) I'm not so sure about this anymore. just from being at the game and hearing how loud everyone cheers for Pods... And he got 2 hits and 2 SB tonight. If only he weren't injured a lot. Why not have Pods/Owens be the 1/2 combo? but Fields doing well.. hmm Because he is always injured, isn't very good and will make about $3M next year. That's why. He's spent 70% of the season on the DL, don't let 1 game cloud your judgment.

And That's a White Sox Loser
QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 11:47 PM) The fact that Ozzie finds a way to get Erstad into the lineup every single day is the biggest reason why he needs to be gone. We make up ways to insert him into the lineup. I hope we release him but frankly, we all know hes going to be injured again soon anyways... The outfield situation sickened me from the very beginning, being forced to watch the remnants of that disaster fail time and time again in the starting lineup of a 4th place team IN THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST is getting real old.
