  1. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) was that a delayed steal, or just a very bad one? Andy Gonzalez is not fast, I suspect this had something to do with it.
  2. Is there a reason why Richar wasn't pinch running right there? Gonzalez is big, awkward and slow why not get a legitimate speed threat in there? See this is why I don't want Gonzalez around next year, Ozzie can't stand to see him leave a ballgame despite the fact that he's bad.
  3. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) Bukvich could have an ERA under 3 before too long. Wow. He should probably work on getting his K:BB over 1 first (currently under 1 which is horrible).
  4. Yep, Danks had 13 starts at AAA Oklahoma last season. Good call on Logan.
  5. I always thought Aerosmith's "Back In the Saddle" would be a pretty badass entrance theme for a closer.
  6. Jim Barr retired 41 consecutive hitters in 1972, which is still the record to date. What Bobby is doing right now is called a "Hidden Perfect Game" - retiring 27 consecutive batters over multiple appearances - Shingo had one in 2004.
  7. Will Danny Richar ever get a shot at a tough veteran lefty?
  8. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 06:08 PM) Adding fuel to the fire, our line-up tonight: Tonight's lineup: Owens CF Fields 3B Konerko DH Dye RF Erstad 1B Gonzalez 2B Podsednik LF Uribe SS Hall C Watch us win though. No Richar, no Thome. We get Erstad, Gonzalez and Podsednik though. No real intriguing reason to watch this one. I really wish Richar could get a start or 2 against a tough lefty this year instead of benching him against the likes of Petitte and Sabathia. I guess Richar and Thome can't handle a tough lefty but Erstad and Podsednik can. Some very strange logic at work with this one.
  9. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) Ahh, and some dude named Buehrle right? As well as Dan Wright, Brandon McCarthy, Rocky Biddle, Kip Wells, Aaron Myette, Matt Ginter, Neal Cotts, Carlos Castillo (called up from high A ball) and Jesus Pena. That's since 1999
  10. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 04:30 PM) Actually you being a Big time Rowand fanboy and avoiding all stats that show how good of a hitter Thome is in most situations is much older. So do these people just close their eyes and cover their ears during big hits like the 3 run homer off Durbin? It's amazing.
  11. The list you've all been waiting for has finally arrived.
  12. The fact that Mike Myers has apparently lost all ability to get left handed hitters out is pretty scary considering he's spent the better part of his career acting as a LOOGY.
  13. QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 11:25 AM) When did I say he NEVER gets on base? I just agreed with the guy that said him not doing well in the clutch is getting old. You're high, either that or you're not watching the games. I broke it down about 2 weeks ago, I went through each and every one of his HRs from last season and found that the GREAT majority of them were crucial, playing a HUGE part in the success of a team that won 90 games. I'll go back and repost it in here since apparently the whole lot of you need a refresher course every other week or so. If you want to see it yourself go back to the July 24th game thread somewhere near the end, if you don't know what game that is, it's the one where Jim "insanely unclutch" Thome hit a 3 run HR in the bottom of the 7th to put the Sox within 1 run in a game they ended up winning. Without that blast they lose but I know, he loves the solo HR in the 8th inning of blowouts. He sucks. He needs to go. And only with Sox fans would a .289 batting average and .451 on base percentage in close and late situations be a bad thing.
  14. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) Pulling up mlb.tv to see what went down. Eh. Better the knee than the head and Towers didn't do anything until ARod came towards him and said something. Old news though. Get over it, Toronto. You don't pull that s*** after hitting someone in the knee, Alex has the right to say some s*** if he wants but Towers needs to keep his b**** ass on the mound and shut his f***ing mouth. Better the knee than the head, yeah you're right it's probably better that I destroyed your kneecap rather than give you a concussion. If you want to hit someone you hit them in the back not a joint. And all of this happened after a Blue Jays pitcher threw a ball behind A-Rod's knee yesterday.
  15. I just noticed Bobby Jenks is in inning number 11 of a hidden perfect game. After 2 batters reached with one out on the July 17th game Vs the Indians Bobby retired the next 2 hitters. This was the start of a 32 hitter hidden perfect game that has spanned 11 outings. Over this stretch he has retired all 32 batters he has faced, 10 of them via the strikeout and has recorded 7 saves, including 2 in one day. Congrats Bobby on this unheralded but incredibly impressive accomplishment.
  16. After the s*** Josh Towers pulled today, I hope he never pitches in the majors again. Of course him being one of the worst starters in the game since the start of the '06 season should take care of that. You don't f***ing hit someone in the knee and if you do you don't walk towards the plate pointing towards first base. It's a damn shame Larry Bowa didn't rip his f***ing head off.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) Neither guy has to get through waivers, just to the Sox. Still wont happen but it's a major difference. In order for a Murton or Cedeno to make it to the Sox via waivers 20 teams would have to pass on them first (all 16 NL teams and the 4 AL teams below the Sox) not gonna happen.
  18. Good. He probably could have gotten more on the open market though, especially years.
  19. QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) (especially the opposite field gapper he hit the other day) Is the word "especially" really necessary? That's only the second double he's had over his last 175 PAs. He hasn't shown any signs of power or an ability to work the gaps, he's shown that he might be able to eek a few singles through the infield and beat out weak grounders to the SS. The 2 BBs he's drawn over his last 71 PAs have been spectacular though. I wonder what Alex Sanchez is up to these days, think he'd be interested in a body double job for Jerry Owens? Oh wait he knew how to work a gap now and then.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 12:10 PM) Whether people here like it or not, if all Owens does is hit .270 or above the rest of this season, he's shown enough to be a starting OF next year for the Sox. He still has a lot he can work on, and hopefully he doesn't screw around this offseason and plays some winterball to work on bunting and stolen base technique to make himself even more of a threat. If all he can do is turn himself into a healthy version of what Podsednik was, then he helps this team tremendously. He'll never be as good as a healthy Podsednik. Never.
  21. QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) As for his bad defense? He's a two time gold glover. What makes you say he's bad? Probably because he's pretty bad in the field.
