QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Which makes it even riskier to claim Griffey. Exactly.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) I doubt either of those players had a Griffey-sized contract, not to mention Jr.'s health concerns. Well Canseco didn't but Randy Myers was owed something like $12M for next 2 years. Canseco was making good money but the Yankees had absolutely no use for him so they paid him a good amount of cash to sit on their bench.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) Yes. But if the team claims a player and they actually aquire him they are soley responsible for his entire contract. One reason Griffey Jr. might make it through. Plus it makes it unlikely that the two teams trying to complete the trade will want to deal with the team that blocked it anytime soon. Jose Canseco and Randy Myers. Prime examples of why players with giant contracts will not be blocked if placed on waivers.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) here is a pic of konerko's wife: You can't just reduce the size of the image, you have to reduce the size of the file. That picture is even larger than the one you had there before. This one is 1/5 the size of the one you posted:

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Didn't Clement give up like 5 or 6 runs in like 5 innings? Yeah, that's really great, Pete. Maybe he meant that Clement's beard was nicely trimmed, so he looked great. 5 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 4BB. In other words, DOMINANT.

QUOTE(BDavisFutureHOF @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) Proud to say that Kong is my next door neighbor and -- HELL YES -- his wife is one little hottie!! (Thank God she sunbathes on the back deck -- provides for a great view) She won't be out there anymore, now that you said that. Paul's gonna keep her far away from you.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) That looks to me to be a sarcastic post, probably from a troll. The guy registered there like 5 days ago and only has 4 posts, however Cubs fans aren't exactly flaming him for it. The thread has turned into a "right to boo" discussion. I mainly lurk there to read all the Sox hatred, I find it hillarious, especially this season.

Chicago Blackhawks Offseason Bonanza Thread
Kalapse replied to CWSGuy406's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
As a guy who watches hardly any hockey and even less Blackhawks games, I seem to know a lot more about the NHL than I probably should. If the Blackhawks had their home games on TV I might actually watch a couple more games than I usually watch which is usually around 5-6 games a year. This signing of Khabibulin actually makes me more interested in watching the Blackhawks, if they made a push this offseason and made up a good team I might be inclined to bring out my Hawks fanship which I have since tucked away hidden deep within myself. Although chances are I'll stick to my Bears, Sox and Bulls and keep the Blackhawks on the backburner. -

QUOTE(Pale Hose Jon @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) Blackhawkzone, is saying that the hawks have signed Bulin to a 4 year deal, their source is jessie rogers Yeah they just said it during the last update on the Score. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) Where's that one dude...? Oh right, we banned him. Perhaps YoungstownIndians should be invited back. Just to tell him how much his team sucks and how he was wrong about just about everything he said.

QUOTE(bigred3535 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) Burke will get a call-up, I guarantee it. Probably BMac, Baj, Gload and Willie, also. You get 5, right? I don't see Anderson getting one, because Carl and Timo (blech) already play the OF occasionally. You can call up 15 players. The rosters expand from 25 to 40, you call players up who are currently on your 40 man roster. Anderson will be up here in September.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) I'm glad to hear this. I thought the deal the Nightengale talked about would not have been a good one for the Sox. We don't need a prima donna like that who ought to have been humbled by several years in a row of zero production. The Reds were a playoff team before he arrived, but haven't whiffed .500 since, isn't that right? You are WAY off calling the Reds a playoff team before Griffey arrived. The Reds signed Griffey in 2000, that season they went 85-77 (.525), they haven't been in the playoffs since '95 when they went 85-59 (.590) and won the division in the strike shortened year. With Griffey: '04 - 76-86 (.469) '03 - 69-93 (.426) '02 - 78-84 (.481) '01 - 66-96 (.407) '00 - 85-77 (.525) Before Griffey: '99 - 96-67 (.589) '98 - 77-85 (.475) '97 - 76-86 (.469) '96 - 81-81 (.500) '95 - 85-59 (.590) DIV. Strike Shortened.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 06:01 PM) Is Timo better in Left than Pods? Or is this just a way to get Pods more rest? I'm assuming it's a combination of resting Pods' legs and getting the better arm in LF which Timo does have. I will never call Timo a good defensive OFer atleast until I see him catch a ball with two hands.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) My guess/hope is that we will see more of Timoniel. That's what Ozzie said in his postgame news conference. He said Blum will play some first with Konerko at DH and see Timo in LF and Pods at DH.

I made this post in another thread. I think it's pretty relavant to this topic: QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) People talk all about the White Sox lack of experience come playoff time, hell just take a look at the A's rotation. Zito not included the other 4 starters have absolutely s*** of experience especially playoff experience. The A's 2-5 starters have a total of 5 gms pitched and 0 GS in the playoffs which equates to 9.2 IP. Career #s: Harden - 59 GS Haren - 41 GS Saarloos - 44 GS Blanton - 21 GS -------------------- Total: 165 GS Where as the Sox' 2-5 starters (- Buehrle) have a total of 31 gms pitched and 20 GS in the playoffs which equates to 147 IP. Career #s: Garcia - 207 GS Garland - 147 GS Contreras - 61 GS Hernandez - 150 GS ------------------------ Total: 565 GS Who's starting rotation 2-5 seems to have more experience the Sox' 31 Playoff Games and 565 career GS or the A's 5 Playoff Games and 165 career GS?

Sox possibly to face most touted prospect since...

QUOTE(marsh @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) I've got waiver claims on him in my two leagues. Hopefully he'll slip to me. As do I. He's a steal in any keeper league. -
Lately, people have been b****ing about the way he uses the bullpen all year. :banghead Oh yeah and Cotts only facing a few batters has been just about the #1 complaint.

QUOTE(marsh @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) i believe he was throwing it until he started having some arm trouble either this year or last year, but i could be wrong since i'm going on third hand info. Yeah they had him throwing it a bit more last year and at the beginning of this season but he started having some arm problems and they barred him from throwing it at all in games. He was put on the DL a little while ago with arm problems he got back recently and had been pitching out of the pen in Tacoma, which is just another reason why he was so impressive today he had been pitching out of the pen for the most part before he had been called up. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) 3, I think, 4 times. 5 times.

QUOTE(marsh @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) He wasn't even allowed to use his best pitch, his slider. He hasn't been alowed to use it in games at all. He's been in the minors for 3 full seasons and han't been allowed to throw the slider in games hardly at all. They're really using kid gloves with him, you don't want a 19 year old tweaking his elbow throwing a slider.
