  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) Now we know why one group is good while the other is barely average. For years we have had made up boogey men in domes, and have tipped our caps to many a 6 ERA pitcher who may or may not be released in his next start. The pitching is keeping this thing together and can be extremely dangerous in a short series against anyone. The offense needs to start being dangerous. There are no more dome goblins, and the twins team is not a slappy grindy thing that Guillen and friends have feared. We just need to maximize our offense's capability. I would DH Viciedo. Have Kostay on the bench as a PH. Omar over at 3rd for now and Castro behind the dish. That optimizes our offense as much as we can for right now.
  2. Here is the tale of the two groups and their take on the series. The pitching.... ''We should [beat them],'' Buehrle said. ''We are playing one of the worst teams in baseball. [Pitcher John] Danks said that coming into the game, you look at their lineup and wonder how that team is that bad. We should come in here and beat these guys. If we want to get to where we want to be, we got to beat teams like this.'' The offense ''You never think it's going to be easy. I don't,'' Konerko said. ''If anybody says it's going to be or is arrogant and thinks you can just walk out there and beat anybody, it's not going to happen. In the big leagues, that's the way it is. We still have a game [tonight], so we've got to salvage something before we walk out of here."
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) Bunting twice with no one out was really, really dumb. The entire reason that Pierre is on this team is to steal.
  4. QUOTE (Bhay99 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) Hawk? Unprofessional? naaaaaaah and this division is tied up Typical second half sox baseball. When the going gets tough, the sox offense wets itself. Hopefully the big bad twins and the ghosts that Ozzie makes them to be doesnt come in and take 3 from our boys.
  5. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) Hawk rooting for wild pitches and for a booted ball is pretty unprofessional. Root for the Sox, not against the other team. Is pretty sad when he has such little faith in a situational AB that he prays for odd things. This is something that overbearing little league parents do, not people associated with a pennant race team.
  6. I wonder if Buck giggled to himself when Ozzie helped him out by giving him a free out.
  7. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) Typical Andruw Jones swinging at balls in the dirt, but it's cool him and Kotsay are excellent DHs We don't need new players, we just need Andruw Jones/Kotsay to have better ABs. Ozzie Guillen Never mind that the back of their cards tells the story that you see in front of you this year. Its just a shock that Andruw just folded after 100ABs like a cheap tent.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) You can defend the negativity all you want. But a negative environment in any walk of life, even a rather harmless message board community, grows very old. My opinion is ultimately a thorougly negative environment is not a place people want to be. The board is much more negative than last year and I've noticed a drop in threads and posts that do anything but complain. I've stopped reading the game threads at least. Hope I can continue to keep my eyes away from those or at least not post in them. GO SOX!! Greg in 2005 we had a pretty big lead due to a fantastic first half. Nearly choked that away and finally put the thing to rest at the end of the year. We dont have that luxury this year. We need to take care of business when we face cupcakes like this. The formula for winning is usually is beating your divisional opponents, and beating up on cupcakes and then going 500 against good teams. When you drop games against very beatable opponents then you need to make those losses up against some of the better teams. The pattern I hate seeing is the overall team exhale that happens when we pass the deadline, and we get beaten a bit. Then we start to get into April/May baseball mode with our offense because the pressure builds and everyone tries to be a hero. One bat short might be the reason we don't go to the playoffs this year. This team needs to man the f*** up in a hurray and start beating these types of teams. And they better f***ing beat Minny next week. 2 of 3, if not 3 of 3 needs to happen. They are still a few men short. If you can't take care of business at home when your opponent is down a few guys then you need a ball check.
  9. Nice win. Good to see Putz close it out. Gavin Floyd was pretty good tonight. If we can avoid wasting outs on the basepaths we would have a few more runs and maybe some more continuity in offense. Lets see Viciedo as the DH tomorrow.
  10. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) Welcome to the Tyler Flowers show? Welcome to the Ramon Castro show. If Tyler comes up he is the backup. Ramon is a major league catcher and this is a pennant race. I don't think AJ is hurt that bad. Its probably going to be tender for a few days, and he will have those off.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) Don't forget about Dewayne Wise starting in CF and leading off I still remember the best one yet. The year he named Jerry Owens a starter over CQ. Then a bolt of lightning came out of the sky and fixed that mistake. AJ comes through.
  12. Hi my name is Mark Kotsay. I finally got a nice hit. Then I had moment of stupidity and ran on Nick Markakis. I was out by 15 feet. This is the kind of production that I bring to a team as its DH.
  13. "The trade we are going to make?'' Guillen said. "Better results from [Mark] Kotsay and Andruw Jones. We need them to get more production. That's the trade we are going to make. Those two guys for the next two months bring what they are supposed to bring, I don't see why we won't have a good hitting team.'' Konerko agreed, pointing out that the first four months of the season should have been the ultimate judge in that. "I mean we're four months in now,'' Konerko said. "Four months is usually a pretty good test of a team to show you're capable or not capable.'' These two quotes back to back in the same article contradict themselves. For 4 months the production at DH is one of the worst in the american league. Yet the magic 8 ball is telling Ozzie that this is okay. What exactly are they supposed to bring, a possible .700 OPS.
  14. Lets see if our offense can wake the f*** up and realize that there is a reason this team has already lost more than 70 games.
  15. 6 innings, 4 hits, 1 run against a s*** pitcher. Typical August sox baseball.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) I would be open to a Morel/Teahen/Vizquel battle for 3B in Spring Training next year. If Morel doesn't win, then he goes to AAA. If Teahen doesn't win, then he takes Kotsay's spot, and if Vizquel doesn't win, then he is one of our utility guys. If Kenny goes into next year with Kotsay still on the team and a Vizquel lead battle for 3rd base I want him fired. That would be two years in a row of handicaping your team.
  17. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) Has anything shown you guys that Omar couldn't play 110-120 games next year at 3b? Going into next year with a plan that involves Omar playing in 110-120 games is called a plan to fail. Take the lightening in a bottle this year and run with it. He is beyond an age where you build a season based on him producing like this year.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) I'll never be able to understand how we came away with no one at the deadline. I've never seen KW fail to (eventually) address a need like that. Christ, we didn't have to get a big bat, we just needed a warm body who could post a decent line. This is why I get so f***ing sick of the excuses when he fails to get someone in the offseason. The sox always through out that, "Well we have X money to sign someone for the stretch run". People buy into this false flexibility and then we struggle to get that guy. Sure you can pick up the toolsey player that is flawed and gets straightened out, but its hard to get that done. The entire middle of the season aquisition plan to overcome a fatal flaw that you knew you were rolling out with is terrible. Here we are late in the season and the very thing that Ozzie insisted wasn't happening is happening. We have a primary DH and it just happens that its a terrible player.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) Yeah, so much for that focused AB by AJP. That's just pathetic. Thats another guy who should be getting splinters in his ass with his terrible ABs. Castro should be getting more playing time outside of a few ABs a week with Garcia or the occasional tough lefty.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) With Rios fading fast, our lineup has gone back to being below average. There's just not a lot of power in our lineup besides PK and CQ, and with the vast number of outs we make on the bases, the execution needs to be perfect. I don't understand why Viciedo isn't in the lineup. Millwood is a perfect guy for him to face. Sub standard stuff that can be squared up by a power guy. Kotsay is a slappy sucky automatic out that is currently the protection for CQ.
  21. There is no reason on earth that we should not destroy the Orioles over the next 3 games. They are f***ing terrible and their pitching staff is terrible. These games need to be won as this race will remain tight as our manager insists on handicaping our team with a terrible DH. Our GM needs to do a better job Ozzie-proofing the lineup. No more sucky left handed scrappy hitters. He falls in love with them, and overuses them.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) Cowley: Sure it would be nice if they hit better. It would be nice if I won the lotto tomorrow, or if Kate Beckinsale gave me a bath. Hoping that something will get better when a mountain of evidence states that this isn't likely to happen is a poor plan. I have a new suggestion, lets see what Viciedo can do with more ABs. Who knows he might actually hit righties. We know for sure that Kotsay can't and Andruw is just swinging from his heels. We went into this season with a guy who was out OPSed by Pods last year, and a guy who shuts down after the league figures out he is just blindly swinging from his heels. And now we are hoping that they hit better, awesome.
  23. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) seriously ozzie.....at least compromise with us.....if he's gonna be the lineup, let me see him at 8 or 9 just for my own sanity There is no excuse for Kotsay to be in the lineup day in and day out. He is one of the worst regulars we have had on this team in a while. Its like we took Brian Anderson and made him a DH. The lack of use of Viciedo scares me a bit, with Teahan coming back I hope a pretty promising hitters isn't going to be sent down so a boat anchor can be kept on the roster to DH. The rotating DH is a failure. This needs to be addressed before the season ends. We can't rock Kotsay in as the 5 hole hitter and DH in the playoffs when every AB becomes important. I dont care how hard he grounds out to the 2nd baseman, I don't care what type of happy clown he is in the dugout. Another example of how Kenny has to spend more time Ozzie proofing the lineup. Remember this is the same man who wanted to start Jerry Owens over Quentin. Only injury saved us from that mess.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) Hopefully Torres throws strikes. im sick of our minor league pitchers coming up and walking the yard, it pisses me off Amen to this. If the guy throws strikes and gets destroyed thats one thing. If he walks the bases loaded and gets the death by 1000 paper cuts routine then its infuriating.
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) I'd say less than 1 percent considering Dayan will be gone when Teahen arrives. I wish our manager wasn't an idiot when it comes to offense, a platoon of Dayan and Thome at DH would be nice right about now. Dayan should get every single opportunity to get as man ABs in the next 30 days. The idea that we would even think of relying on a guy's who's track record of swinging from his heels, people start throwing s*** in the dirt, then his numbers plummet and a guy who Pods out OPSed last year as our DH is sad. Viciedo has pop in his bat and just needs to get more ABs to see what it is. There is no magic waiver deal to fix this. Its just hoping that Guillen embraces logic and reality over his memory of Andruw in a Braves uni when Guillen was a coach there.
