  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) Did he get tossed? The fan is getting kicked out. But that is about it.
  2. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) we.re still not even out of the first month guys. Our starting rotation is as much to blame as the offense...THIS TEAM IS BUILT ON ITS STARTING PITCHING AND WILL GO AS FAR AS THE STARTING PITCHING TAKES US. on a side note what teams are gonna be looking to acquire a closer?? and what might they give up for Jenks?? We've got Thornton, Santos, and Putz that look like they can all close, we know 2 of the 3 can and the other, Santos, just looks flat out unhittable. I'd put Santos or putz out there so you still have thornton in a lefty role with one of the RHers. Our starting pitching needs to get better, no doubt about that. But the elephant in the room is the offense. We are scoring 3.6 runs per game. I don't care how lights out your pitching is, 3.6 runs per game is horrible. This is not 1950, we need to score runs as we are in the American League. If the plan was to not score runs, and hope that every pitcher absolutely shut down the opposition, then it was a bad plan and we can look forward to a frustrating year.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) I said it last night during the game thread... He had much better control last time around at 91-92, than he did last night at 94-96. His control has been off most of the year. The name of his game is a naturally moving fastball and some excellent secondary pitches. At 91-92 he gets more movement I am sure, but he has been a guy who has had success at 94-96. I think we will see him hopefully soon, throwing 92-94 with control and that will setup his secondary pitches. He has too long of a track record of success. If he is in that 92-94 range he will have enough velocity differential between his fastball and slider and should throw most hitters off balance. Again, his control is the key. If he can attack the strikezone, he should be fine.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 08:50 AM) No command, whatsoever. His stuff is still there, just cannot locate anything. And we have a winner. No command = fail. Doesn't matter how good of stuff you have, if you walk the world and get into hitters counts at some point you are going to pay in the AL. The minute he gets his command underneath him, he will be fine.
  5. I was able to score a single ticket to game 2 of the 2005 WS. I was in one of the highest reaches of the Cell, and it was a glorious event and I will never forget it.
  6. Well that was a fun morning. 800 or so random computers started rebooting all over my company. I thought we had some new zero day worm that was infecting our company. Well my bad, some genius at McAfee decided to screw up the virus signature files which detected one of the windows system files "svchost.exe" as a virus and then would delete it. So basically most of the day has been steering teams all over my company to remediate a mess up that could of been avoided with some testing on McAfee's part. Cool.
  7. Quentin was great 2 years ago when he had a short quick swing and had monsterous power to right center. The current rendition of Carlos looks like the only way he can make contact is if the ball is accidentally thrown at the bat. He needs to shorten that swing up a bit, and get more control. The talent is there, the baseball IQ however needs some tweaking.
  8. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 11:32 PM) wow thanks for the info knightni!! Another one to run is Malwarebytes. http://www.malwarebytes.org
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) This would seem pretty obvious. This team is built around power. Power hitters usually have very low BABIPs since they hit more fly balls than anything else and fly balls are the least likely to yield a hit other than a home run. This team is built around power? Really. Maybe they think that, but its not true. We have a lot of guys who have some pop, but I wouldn't consider them power hitters. Kotsay, Rios, AJ, Beckham, Pierre, Teahan, Ramirez are not power hitters. Konerko. Quentin and hell even Jones are power hitters. This team should definately trend toward the norm in BABIP and not be this out of wack. Our team should be more line drive oriented with our guys. And before someone throws out the luck standpoint of BABIP. We must be the most unlucky team then, because we have trended towards the bottom in the league in BABIP for the last 3 years.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 08:35 AM) EVery year, my company rents out Great America for employees only and today is the day! No line! Woohoo! My wife works for the same healthcare company. My 5 year old rode the demon as his first rollercoaster with loops. His reaction, I want to ride it again. Nice day and the lines were minimal.
  11. Nice to see that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
  12. So after watching Peavy the last two starts and looking at video from last year. Check out his follow through this year. Last year, he looked like he was just about to fall off the mound and then would fall into fielding position. This year he is more controlled at the end. I wonder if that buggy whip at the end was part of his mechanism to get more torque on his pitches and gave him more of that cut to his normal fastball. I don't think he is injured. I just think his mechanics are off at the end.
  13. Jeff Cox switched sides for the bottom of the 9th, and is the MVP!!!! God that was close.....Nice win....
  14. Maybe Kenny needs to hire a psychologist for the team. I find it funny that according to Ozzie they are pressing from day one. Swing for the home run. Well if thats the case, then this team is going to have their balls in a twist come august when there is real pressure. Evaluating the mental makeup of the players we pick up needs to be addressed. Week one, and they are pressing and are lost. Give me a break.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) s*** if our starters were guaranteed to go 2 runs in 7.0 IP every single game, anyone who wouldn't take that in a heartbeat is a tool. Our pitching has been great. This is all on the offense. There is no reason at the cell with good temps today and with what Baker has offered today that runs are not flowing like a river. Our new motto. Whitesox baseball. We step on our own dicks.
  16. So far our only win is where our pitcher didn't allow any runs. That seems the be the only way we can win these days. NO RUNS OR FAIL. Nice offense we have put together here.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) Is Hawk mad at the bullpen? Well it looks like Hawk is blaming the pitching. Hawk " In everygame this year we have had the lead" Yes I know how lock solid 1-0 leads are in the American League at the Cell
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) I wouldn't say I was a fan. He's swinging for the fences, which is not what he does. When he was effective, he has a short swing and a quick bat with all the power being generated through bat speed. 2008 CQ would have hit that 1st pitch a mile, today he fouled it back. I'm not concerned about it yet though. Exactly. When Q is on, his power goes to right center. In 2008 he was excellent at letting the ball get deep into the zone and driving it without having to artificially apply power. Hopefully he gets it going soon.
  19. Formula for Whitesox victory in 2010. Have your starter pitching staff give up 2 runs or less, and you might have a chance. Hopefully Freddy keeps it up.
  20. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) How does hawk and stoney know everyone Actually I was under the assumption that Hawk only knows 15 people that he rotates stories about.
  21. Somewhere on the interwebs, ESPY is happy. Nice hit, best swing on the spring for Mark.
  22. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) Ozzies: Darin Erstad, Mark Kotsay, Brian Anderson, D. Wise ??? Ozzie is all about taking a role player, that actually might benefit the team as a role player and then overplaying said role player turning him into hot garbage. Erstad became our leadoff hitter, based on the fact that he was so grindy. He wasn't going to leadoff for another team that year. Mackowiak, perfectly good utility guy. You move him around, can play the corner OFs fine. We turn him into a starting CF, not exactly his strong suit. Wise, becomes a leadoff hitter and starter. Only injury takes that away. Now Kotsay, our 5th hitter who has pods like numbers hitting against RH. Think about other awesome things that injury took away from us. Owens was the starter out of ST, and Quentin was coming off the bench. Then that angered the gods who struck down Owens.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) I still don't know why paid for a more expensive version of Pods. 2003 Marlins
  24. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Our starting pitching has done pretty well. Going into today the 4 had pitched 24 innings and only gave up 6 runs. Compared to the bullpen's 16 innings and 8 runs. Starters have a 2.25 ERA coming into this game. The relievers coming into this game have a 3.00 ERA for a total of a 2.50 ERA for the team. Even with Linebrink taking a dump on field when he came out there, the pen and the pitching is hardly the issue.
