2010 Chicago White Sox Spring Training
southsideirish71 replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) I'd be in favor. I have no interest in watching pitchers hit. It basically takes 2 hitters out of the mix. You have an auto out with your pitcher, and most of the time the guy in front of him gets pitched around due to the auto out behind them. -
Basically we are going to play NL type baseball in an AL league. Never mind the fact that the AL has been kicking the living crap out of the NL and their antiquated style of baseball of the last decade or so. I can't wait to see Beckham turned into captain bunting because Ozzie wants to completely recreate the Marlins 2003 lineup. In the end we need to score more runs than the other team. Here's to our pitching staff having a record season. And for all of the people using 2005 as a comparison. 2005 was a bad offense that still had power. This team is a bad offense that is lacking power. I would put our offense 4th in our division right now. Hopefully we can have career years from all of our offensive players or this will be over quickly. Remember AJ gets a NTC some time in June due to his service time. So be prepared for quicker moves if our offense sucks.

QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) Damon wants the 2 yrs and Detroit is the ONLY team offering him that right Boras wants 2 years and has been flooding the interwebs with crap. Right now Detroit has a single year deal with some money deferred on the table. The minute the sox bow out, all of a sudden mystery teams start showing up. This is classic Boras creating a feeding frenzy where one might not be. -

QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) Neither will the Sox if they don't start winning. If they put up two more .500-ish seasons with $100M payrolls, Kenny very well may pull the plug and deal Peavy, Rios, etc. and start over with the pieces that he gets in return. When the Twins are consistently kicking your ass with 2/3 of the payroll, it's time to rethink your strategy. Well considering that the twins will have a mid 90 million dollar payroll. The strategy has changed. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) After actually reading Levine's article (I have to go wash my hands), this was nothing more than a negotiating ploy by KW. Pulling the offer at this point is more of a PR move than a tactical move. If Detroit won this over a million dollars he would of been flooded with calls of being cheap, etc, etc. Now he can bow out and say, look we gave money if he wants to come here he can. I think Kenny is giving Ozzie enough rope to hang himself with this wanting the Marlins redux offense. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) This really sucks. Gonna be an interesting Sunday for KW to speak about this.... He will say we feel we can win with what we have. We are always looking to improve the ballclub, but the numbers weren't there. This is the same guy who went to battle with Josh Fields and Dewayne Wise as starters last year. -

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Thats what I think. He'd rather win his pissing contest than deal with Boras. Well if thats the case, then its a stupid reason. Our offense needs all the help it can get and the division is close enough to pull out all stops to make things better. KW and Ozzie are really sticking their necks out this year because of this silly idea of group 4 playing DH. -

Happy Cubs Ticket day to you. This year I feel good about my fellow Chicagoan who loves the goofs from the north side. So they will be allowed to access the site. However I must make sure that they dont steal valuable bandwidth, so I am redirecting all of their requests through one of our Indian offices. Nothing like the 570 to 700ms response time for tickets. If they open up a few windows their computers will grind to a halt.

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) Why are we going after Damon? Where would he fit? His defense sucks...Pierre is basically playing the position he'd play....I like Pierre, Rios, Quentin and Jones all better than Damon. What's the end game if we get Damon? You think Pierre and Jones are better than Damon. Better at what, because baseball is not one of the things they are better at. -

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) That and he probably believes that the Sox are much closer to being a championship quality contender than Detroit is. The park factor might also be part of it. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) Maddow is opinionated but not crazy. Olbermann is definitely pretty off. Opinionated is one thing. When everything is some sort of evil Republican plot to overthrow the earth then I would put her in the crazy format.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) Keith Olbermann is a retard. Just watch how many things he butchers in tonight's episode (a "desert eagle" is a "Semi-automatic rifle; his whole segment on nuclear power). Having Olbermann and Maddow back to back is like having the Glenn Beck in duplicate, aka the double crazy.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) My Wife is a regional big wig for Sprint. The Pre has been a problem for a lot of her corporate customers. My Wife has this phone. She likes the phone itself, not the issues we have had with hardware. We are on our 4th version of this phone due to flaws with the manufacturing of the previous units. We had one flaw where the unit would power off when you slid the keyboard back. Another flaw where the WiFi wouldn't work at all. And another one where it wouldn't power up from the magnetic power source ( stone ). WebOS itself is pretty solid. Nice Linux core, and the apps are pretty responsive. The problem with this phone is that Palm came out with this one year too late. IPhone already has the market share, and now Android and the new Windows Mobile phone are going to provide pretty awesome alternatives to it with enough phone choices around it. Palm has nice technology however its going to get squeezed from the perception of issues because of the hardware. If I was getting a phone. The Palm version, while nice and all, would be a 3rd or 4th choice. I would go IPhone or Droid right now for a smartphone and maybe the Windows OS for a 3rd choice.

This offense better click this year or Guillen and Williams will be on the hotseat this year. This pitching staff is good enough to compete now. All we need is a competent offense. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Ozzie Guillen JR is his father's son. He's also about as good at spelling as i am. "Johny Damon? Don't see him fitting in our lineup. I hope these are just rumors on the internet." http://twitter.com/oguillenjr/status/8978312448 How the hell wouldn't Damon fit Guillen's lineup. He does a lot of things that Ozzie wants from his hitters. -

Sox #2 hitters saw lowest % of fastballs last year
southsideirish71 replied to Fotop's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The approach that has been successful for years against the sox is to junkball our hitters and let them get themselves out. Fastball pitchers never had a chance. Thats why we would see our guys light up some stud pitcher who threw 100 and then get 1 hit the next night by some 7 ERA bum lofting cookies. Lets see if this years group does a better job at the handling the bat. With this crew they need to hit line drives and go gap to gap for the most part. We will see what happens. I just hope that our number 2 hitter gets to actually hit and not be a glorified bunter.
