  1. Gramps likes his crazy bullpen guys. He also likes his utility guys. This team has his fingerprints on it.
  2. Well, when you have a team that has a bunch of 1B/DH types mixed in with overusing utility guys this is what happens. The white sox have never given a fuck about fundamentals. Their brand of baseball is based on 3 months in the summer when the ball blows out to left. In the spring/fall they look very flawed. In June when everyone starts banging the ball out they will look invincible for periods of time. This is a flawed team. If I was any of the AL Central teams not named the Royals, I would think I have a chance.
  3. Well look at it this way, Tony can get his supper on time tonight if they lose quickly.
  4. Lets attempt to steal back to back because they will never see it coming.... oh wait.
  5. You realize that TLR is in charge right. It's him direct to JR. The rest of the guys are just collecting checks waiting for this to play out. You cant protect the roster enough to overcome TLR.
  6. Only his mother would bat him third in a regular-season game.
  7. Leury is an 8, 9-hole hitter. The only man who would bat him 3rd in a regular lineup is this fuck.
  8. He is resting his team for the playoffs. Playing without home-field advantage worked out so well last year for us.
  9. Moncada had one great year, 2019. Outside of that, he has been pretty much what he is. Maybe it's not Covid, maybe he is just this and the 2019 year was the lark.
  10. I love this trade. Zac was always a square peg back there. I admire him for making it to the bigs as a catcher, but his receiving was never good enough back there. This is what our pitching staff needs more than another bat.
  11. The whitesox could trade away Robert, Eloy, and Gio tomorrow for AAAA players, and about a day later there would be 4 threads started by VAFan on how this might be the best decision the sox ever did. How it's refreshing to start over, and the only place to go is up.
  12. Jerry Reinsdorf, doing Jerry Reinsdorf things.
  13. Spring training in AZ is not to be trusted. The breaking pitches don't bite as much, some mediocre AAAA hitters look like Mike Trout for a few weeks. Some veteran pitchers look like crap for a few weeks. These are glorified practices. Sometimes a pitcher is working on a specific task in a start. Like, throw this one pitch a lot. This is all about getting into shape for a 162 game grind. Sometimes a player can play themselves onto a roster. But until they come north and see real MLB regular season pitching or pitch to regular MLB regulars it's all a crapshoot.
  14. Well, the last time I checked the owner of this franchise doesn't give out massive contracts. So check out the contracts of the players and how many are free agents after 2024 and 2025. So yes. The time is now. We don't have a phase 2 in the minors that are nipping on these guys' heels right now. Dynasty teams have waves of players coming in. Look at the teams who spend quite a bit on their drafting, international FA, and development. They consistently reload. We have built this as the cubs built there's. We are top-heavy, and that top is at the major league level. Eventually, that top will cost money. Some of these guys are under cost-controlled contracts. But once again. We don't have a second wave ready to hit anytime soon.
  15. You can be a fan of the team and not carry water for everything they say. Everyone agrees this is a talented team. I think the issue is that most believe that we need to move a few more chips into the center before we call this a done deal. Last year's playoffs showed that. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is not logical. We are in the midst of the competitive window we have been waiting for. This is the time to strike. All of the chips should be moved in. The time to win is now. Not in 5 years. Not waiting for some mythical prospect that has never played a single minor league game because you signed him this offseason. Now. And defense does matter to some point. You can't just toss every DH/1B type all over the field and expect magical things. Andrew Vaughn has impressed with his ability to play LF last year. But it's LF, the easiest position in the OF where we have historically have had butchers over there. Now, what is the plan to move him over to RF? You think that is going to help out Giolito when a fly ball goes down the line. Maybe it's to have Engel over there. What happens if superman gets hurt again. Plus he truly hasn't proven that he can hit over the course of a year yet. Sheets is a 1B/DH type. You might be able to hide one defensive liability in the OF, you can't have two and hope that our CF can cover that. It doesn't work like this. This offseason they needed a RF. A true RF. It would have been nice to get another SP. A good one. Not something from the repo bin. It would be nice to have a backup catcher. Someone who can call a game. Instead we decided to double down on relief pitchers and a 2b.
  16. Is a bulked up Giolito going to hit and play RF. This annual tradition of VAFan doing his whitewashing of non-moves and mediocrity is comical. Thread after thread of this nonsense. It’s the first week of spring training. Maybe we can get a thread of X player is in the best shape of his life. Maybe another on how X player is going to rebound based on something that happened this week. Coach X said that this random player is crushing front side flips in the cage. PFPs look amazing from this other player
  17. Kimbrel has an issue where he seems to have problems if it’s not his ball in the 9th. We have a closer who is better than him.
  18. Not signing a RF because a platoon player who was injured most of last year might be healthy is dumb.
  19. The window is going to close soon. They have 2-3 years to win before Jerry and his fiscal issues turn this into rebuild/reload.
