Enjoy when Giolito gets traded or walks because the same fiscally conservative team decides that they cant meet his contract needs. Wait for that to rinse and repeat as our players get to their UFA dates. We have been good at locking up younger players and buying a few of their FA years from them. Eventually those dates come back. Well dont worry we have a fully stocked minor league system to replace them, oh wait. We dont do that minor league thing all that well. Its a flawed team that hasnt been able to beat teams above .500 for two years now. Luckily they play in a crappy division. So that gets us into the dance for the time being. I didnt think this rebuild was hinging on "Hey anything can happen in October". Our minor league system is not going to sustain this. We dont have enough difference makers there. So its either spend or just hope for the best.

Agreed. We didnt solve anything. We replaced a reliever that is destined to move to the rotation to replace Rodon. We still have Tepera out there to lose. And eventually Kimbrel will be sent away. The bullpen is far from being finished. Hopefully they keep moving forward/.

Wait till they get the price tag to resign Tim Anderson and Giolito. We are realistically looking at a lot of possible turnover in 2024-2025. We have not stocked the farm enough to replace that from within. We built this by selling off vets at their peak and getting highly-rated prospects or formerly highly-rated prospects and turning them around. And some international FA. Most long-term successful teams build a pipeline in their farm system to either replace from within or to use as trading chits. With the current state of our farm system the only way we can sustain this is to spend like a drunken sailor and to hope for some of our prospects to hit and then flip them. The uglier side of this would be to trade from the major league roster.

I wonder how long Hahn has to hold on to Giolito before he gets flipped. I can't imagine we meet his fair market price.

If we want to go in the wayback regret machine you probably want to punch the front office on draft day when we didn't pick up India instead of Madrigal more than the trade for Kimbrel.

Well if we drafted and developed our minor leagues like Tampa does we could avoid spending a lot of money. But we trade away international bonus money because obviously that never works. If we are going to try to get to this without spending this window will be short and we will have to sell off assets that will become expensive in short order.

My guess is they will move the focus to trading major/minor league assets to fill 2B/RF. Then go dumpster diving for SP. They will bank on Keuchel being the Keuchel of old and then figure it's one guy to be the 5th starter. They might pick up another reliever or so.

I have seen more screens called with Dalton in the last two games than I have seen with Fields in all of his starts. Its amazing how passive aggressive Nagy has been with Fields vs Dalton.

So if they fire Pace I do not want to see Ernie Acorsi near the bears "helping" them.

So what did we learn from the Pittsburg game. That rolling the QB out and doing some things that is outside the normal Nagy offense is good. So what happens the next game. We got back to Nagy offense. The continued development of Fields is going to involve removing Nagy from the equation. He needs to go. He is stubborn and doesnt learn.

The routine of JR trading away bonus money is an indictment of the org as far as it's long term vision.

This is a bad take. Wishing for the rise of competition in the AL Central is a bad idea. The more shots we have at the playoffs the more likely we are to go further. The better the competition the more likely we are to watch the playoffs from a spectator standpoint instead of as a participant.

Remember the formula for a long-term run here for the Sox. Build from within with the trades and drafts. Then spend on key FAs. But in the end, spend. The tigers will spend. We will see if the sox will as well. Or our reign in the central will be over just as quickly as it was in the early 90s.
