QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) Clearing a spot on the 40 man, something is up. Especially considering that the 40 man was sitting at 39 before that move.

FYI This would say a move is coming.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) They should give him a try in LF, and then sign Rowand and place Sweeney in RF next season. Also, if the Sox do extend Dye, then they're going to have to trade one of the starters. The only thing worse than standing pat and hoping our aging stars will keep producing at a high level without long injury spells, would be to bring back Erstad and Pods.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) And now Bruuuuuuce Levine is claiming we are trying to sign him to an extension...could that be what the meeting with Rick Hahn, KW, and OG was about yesterday before the game? Watching Dye stumble around RF towards the end of the extension should give for some frustrating times as a fan.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) And his defense? With prancer, not catching flyballs, and heading balls instead of catching him, how much worse can he be. At least when he hits the ball it goes far. I hate strikeout guys as much as the next guy, but we have prospects that strikeout a lot and not hit a lot of homers. At least if you are going to swing hard for the fences, hit a dong from time to time.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) Then look at Hansen's stats before you go talking about how you don't like people's numbers. He's not that good, especially since he's a reliever. Masterson keeps the ball on the ground, doesn't walk people, and strikes enough people out to be effective. He's a much better prospect than Craig Hansen right now. Isnt Hansen a Boras client, and wasnt their talks that Boras had "the boras team coaches" influencing him on his mechanics, and he has been a shadow of himself since he started down that road.

It looks to be back off.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) Keep Dye. He is aproven winner and a team player. Wilie Moe and some class A pitcher isn't a fair trade. We pick up another underachieving hitter/of'er and we have enough of those in our system now. If this trade is made it seems it would be just so someone in the front office can say they did it. We would be so much better off signing Dye to an extension instead of trading away one of our better hitters and outfielders. You trade to improve yourself and this team does not need to subtract. The bullpen is the problem and yet we trade hitters for minor league shavetails that we might not see for years if ever. Have you watched Dye lumber around in RF this year. How does that project next year, or the year after. He needs to become a DH. We already have one of those.

2007 Post ASB White Sox Catch-All Thread

All's well with Contreras "I was pretty excited," Guillen said of the meeting. "I was worried about [Contreras'] back, but he said he was fine. For me, the best thing is that mentally and physically he's fine." We'll find out when he pitches next time," Guillen said, then added with a laugh, "If he pitches next time and does the same stuff, then he was lying to me." We have to start to use medical professionals and machines, instead of asking our players for their opinions on their health. Based on this, I expect a fastball averaging 94 mph next time out, and his splitter to be filthy. But you know he will go back to being Byung Yung Contreras the drop down specialist. -
I would jump on that, you cant have enough pitching.

On the sunny side, at least Prancer didnt head it into the bullpen. He must forget that the large leather thing on his non throwing hand is to catch the ball with. We need to get Hu or Escobar and replace Uribe. Then call up Sweeney and put him into LF. Trade Pods to someone who needs a 5th OF, pinch runner.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNNER!!!

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 12:13 AM) Best game I have been to all season. Really happy to see Richar with such a nice game. Can't wait to get back tomorrow. It was quick, it was well played, and the kids factored in the result. It was great. I was home before 9. One thing, is from the side, Richar's stance looks Luis Castillo-ish. He turned the DP he had pretty well, and had a nice feed to Uribe on a turn. Now if we can somehow pick up Hu to replace Uribe at SS, our infield will be cheap, and should be pretty good for a long long time. -
Congrats to the Buerhles, a healthy baby boy.

White Sox vs. Blue Jays, 7/27/07 (W)

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 09:22 AM) As long as we win, Id be happy if Frank went yard every at bat. I understand peoples fandom of former sox players, hell Frank is probably the best that I have ever seen on the southside. But being happy if he hit home runs off of your team, no matter what happens is a bit weird. I loved Maggs when he was here, he was one of my favorite players. When he faces us, I hope we strike him out every time and he goes into a series drought. The same with Frank. When he isn't playing our team, I hope he hits bombs and just terrorizes the league. But when he faces us, I hope we pin the hat trick on him, and shut him down the series. To me this is the same line of thinking, when we get people saying. Oh its 8-6 sox, now we have to get Bobby up, but the guy who just hit the bomb is on my fantasy league team, so all is well. When players that leave the sox come to the cell, show them respect, give guys like Frank a cheer as he is a great great player. Too many of our fans think they have to boo some ex sox player, who moved on for whatever reason. However, once they get between the lines, then hope the sox get them out. -
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) Anybody else have Sega Channel? I remember waiting till midnight on the first of each month for the new games to come with my brother. That was a technology that was way ahead of its time. I had the Sega channel when it was out. I remember also playing and solving each of the Sonic the Hedgehog games when they came out. Staying up all night to beat each boss at the end of each level.

QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) On April 1, 2006, KW gave Jose Contreras a 3-year extension covering the 2007-10 seasons. I understand Contreras pitched exceptional through the 2005 Championship season, but why would KW be motivated to keep him under contract for the following FOUR years? With his age, and JR's unwillingness to approve long-term contracts, why did KW give a three year extension instead of two? It's obviously backfiring on the Sox today, with an ineffective, injured, aged Contreras signed for two more seasons after this one. Horrible move KW. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/press...sp&c_id=cws Anyone that says that this is a horrible deal is not giving context to when this happened. Contreras was our ace, he was the guy who started every playoff series. In the 2nd half of that year, through his DL stint the following year he was one of the most dominant pitchers in the game. In his starts right before he went on the DL, he had some of his most dominant performances, including bnack to back double digit strikeout performances where his fastball was 97. 17 game consecutive win streak. If we had traded him, you and a bunch of people would of been up in arms over it. You are talking about a pitcher, that KW coveted, that was his ace. This was a good move at the time. Now I dont know if he is hurt(if it is, I dont think its a shoulder or arm more likely his back). He can every so often explode to 94. Guys with shoulder, elbow issues have a drop of velocity and they dont have it come back. When Jose goes over the top, he gets better velocity and better life to his pitches. When he drops down, his ball sails, and his velocity and command go south. I personally think, its a few things going on. Not just one. Now am I concerned that he will be an expensive pitcher, without the results sure. Do I want him traded now. Sure. But I dont know too many people who were Johnny on the spot after the 05 season and wanted him gone.

No trades ? Predictions ?

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) The three guys KW will strongly pursue are Rowand, Byrnes and Eckstien. He will try to re-sign Iguchi and if not they will give that kid Richar a chance to make it. I expect to him to make a strong push for Julio and Linbrenk to patch to bullpen as well. I don't expect many trades to occur, unless a team STRONGLY WOOs KW for Vazquez or Garland. Or perhaps Iguchi might be on the move perhaps for a solid prospect or a reliever to make room for Richar. If Richar doesn't make it the rest of this season, KW would probably then go after Castillo to replace him. My official prediction summary: (BEFORE THE DEADLINE:) Iguchi traded for a solid prospect OFFSEASON: KW re-signs Dye to a 2 year deal for about 8.5 mill/season Free agents- Rowand, Eckstein, Byrnes, Julio or Linebrenk (or both) and maybe Castillo Trades- He'll shop Contreras and will hope to give him away to dump his salary I think they will hang on to Crede, whats the point of trading him now when his value is low. Let him make an attempt to make a strong comeback as he approaches free agency, this may benefit us. Dye was quoted in the paper today, saying that this is possibly his last deal, so he wants a longer term commitment. He wouldn't do a single year, he wants security at this point in his career. -

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 09:30 AM) If they get Hu for Dotel, and the Sox can't or won't get him and one other player for Dye, then I am going to be extremely disappointed. Exactly, hole number one is to replace the oversized SS who will be getting paid 5 million next year. Hu's at SS -
From the Arcade perspective. Crazy Climber was an awesome game. The original Pac Man, where you could use the pattern. Rampage was another. 1941

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 10:23 AM) I fear nothing will happen. NOTHING. I hope we enjoy that crappy 2nd round sup pick we get from Dye when he signs with the Rangers. I mean, what is the reason to hold on to him. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) Ya, I believe he is. WE'RE GOING TO MAKE A RUN AT THE DIVISION THIS YEAR. GUYZ MIRITE?!?!?!? Looking at what Rosenthal said at foxsports, we also were bidding on another soon to be FA, Scott Linebrink. What the f*** are we trying to do. Load up on supplemental picks??? If its make a run this year, then our GM needs some reality pills.
