Sox @ Rockies 6/8/05 Game Thread

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) The bullpen was handled properly. If Cotts has control, he's probably more effective than any of our other relievers. I am getting sick of our awful base running/bunting. When's Ozzie going to learn that Crede can't bunt, and Uribe can't run the bases? Randa can bunt. -

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:11 PM) Why doesn't Ozzie get it though? He wants to play small ball right? Oh wait, he is the same guy who pinch hits Timo with Frank on the bench Our strikezone recognition is getting worse if that is possible. This years team seems more likely to chase crap out of the zone only to watch fastballs down the cock float in for taken strikes. Uribe has nice tools and all but what a f***ing butcher at the plate. If it is near the plate, within like 15 feet he is swinging. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) LOL, you really seem to hate Walker. A bit too much if I might add. I have hated him since he was promoted. Every hitter that came through his system had long looping swings and were dead pull hitters. I didnt think magically he was going to change when he went to the majors. -

Greg Walker is shaking his head after this game. "We went into this game with a good gameplan" stated the confused Greg Walker. "I simulated the game on my xbox and the result was different, we hit home runs like crazy. Maybe this "light air" is an urban legend" said a dejected Walker. Doug Padilla suggested to take the game off of the rookie setting and stop hitting with the power button every time and it will give you a better simulation". On the good news front Greg stated that he finally has a way to communicate with Gooch. "I bought a japanese to english computer translator program. I have seen some worrysom things with his swing and now we almost have it tweaked. He needs to open his hips up a bit more so he can get around of the ball more to generate more power like Joe Crede. Joe is one of my best students and is a master at getting around on the 91mph fastball down the middle of the plate. AJ is another believer in Walk. Walk is great. I was a line drive spray hitter before I got here. Now I have realized my full potential. As Walk puts it, How can you hit the home run if you dont pull the damn baseball. My power numbers are up. Konerko and I are working on new stances that will generate super mega pull power. We will break them out for the twins series in August. When asked about the teams slumping BA and nearly getting shut out by the worst pitcher in the NL in the best hitting park in the NL, walk just shrugged his shoulders. BA means nothing, do you think guys like Rob Deer, Jose Valetin and Pedro Cerrano worry about BA. BA doesnt win ball games, homers do. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) After the season last year, the sox leaked that Timo played all season with hamstring issue... Regardless of whether you buy that bulls***, it tells you all you need to know about what the Sox organization thinks of Timo and Ross... Timo is allowed to be on the roster and play the OF while hurt. And when he's healthy they even let him play out of position. Ross isn't allowed anywhere near the roster, let alone the OF (where I think most of us want to keep him away from anyway) while he's injured. So Timo at first tomorrow night. Give Kong a night off while we can watch the midget twirl and jump for the rox fans. See how high I can jump to catch a normal throw. I am a 5'5 midget.

QUOTE(Unregistered @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:38 PM) I remember reading his name last night on the Tribune site and praying that they don't draft him. "Lance Broadway" just sounds like one of those players that 3 years from now you'll be saying, "What the hell ever happened to that 'Lance Broadway' guy?" I hate the picks that the Sox sign and everyone is like "Why would they sign him?" cause my guess is that he is a guy they know they can sign cheap, and don't want to be burned by another Borchard clone. Prove me wrong, Broadway. Not happy at all. We should of picked Carillo. Good control, better stuff. Broadway jumped up due to his last three starts, not the entire body of work. We have enough of these "great control guys with a good curve" in our organization that cant hit 90 on a daily basis. We need a stuff guy to mix in. We have BMAC/Diaz/Honel are all control guys with good breaking stuff. I would rather have a guy to break up the mix who has the control and the velocity and my god a sinking pitch. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/bas...-carrillo_x.htm

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) Ozzie Guillen seems more worried about Frank Thomas not playing for a week than Thomas is. Guillen has fretted over how to use Thomas with the Sox playing in National League parks until Sunday. He said using Thomas in the field is a possibility. Maybe he should of pinch hit Frank last night instead of his Fluffer. Doublespeak from Ozzie. he wants AB's for Frank but in the first instance he can pinch hit he puts his girlfriend in the game. He will have at least 1 AB a night to pinch hit Frank to keep him going. As long as Ozze keeps it in his pants and doesnt worry about his girlfriend getting upset. If Timo was big and red..... -
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) Yeah I hope nobody expects Carillo to hit 95 regularly, or you will be displeased. Not many guys in the draft process can hit 95 regularly, and if they can they are either a top 10 pick or a later round guy because of their control. Carillo has nice sink on his fastball that sat at 91-92 when I watched. A guy who is thin as hell and can rush it up when needed to 95 and above with sink on his fastball. I would take that in a hearbeat over Felix straight fastball diaz who has no sink and cannot rush it up when needed. Pitchers who have sinkers or a sinking fastball are a must with the Cell playing the way it has over the last few years.
-
I hope they draft Carillo. Its hard to pass up guys who hit 95 reguarly and have a plus curve and change. He has faced quality batters in his conference and plays in a big time program. His last start he had 113 pitches, he hit 95 on his last pitch. This is Zambrano territory. Enough with the 91mph Felix Diaz type pitchers who have great control and get bombed if they misse on their spots. I would rather have a filthy ace to complement our staff. Gio/Bmac/ and Carillo would give us deep pitching for years. Pitching wins. Lets get the best filthy pitcher.

Nice win On another note, you have Frank Thomas who needs AB's. You have a pinch hitting situation. What do you do? A.) Bat Frank let him get as many AB's during this series. Future HOF B.) Bat Everett, he needs his Abs also C.) Bat the fluffer, because your bed will be lonely if you piss off OMIT Ozzie predictably bats his lover and personal fluffer Mr. 197BA. Who promptly swings at the first pitch pulling it softly to the 2nd baseman. Timo runs back to the dugout, gets a playful pat on the ass from Ozzie and then a look of you are going to get a good romp later from Timo. f***ING get over your LOVER OZZIE. Great pitching effort by Garcia. Nice offense tonight. Walker has learned japanese. Gooch is now pulling the ball more, and his hips are flying open trying to pull the outside pitch. Walker has not seen a hitter he cant turn into pull only. f***er. -

Barnes is out for 3 months. He broke his clavicle falling in an accident at home. Thats sucks for the rox. Last year we had all of the injuries this year its all of our opponents. -
To Upgade at the deadline, who would you trade?

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) I voted Sweeney. He's more upside (risk) than performance at this point. He might bite you in the ass, but he also might not develop any power and become a .290/.340/.400 guy that isn't worth wasting a corner outfield spot on. Anderson, I think, is a major league ready player. I'd personally rather have him on the roster than Dye, but that's not going to happen. McCarthy just needs to resolve his dinger problem - not sure what that relates to - and he's a top of the rotation starter. Those are rare and must be preserved at all costs. Gio Gonzalez is just too incredible at this point to even think about trading. He could be better than McCarthy. You can't even think about trading him until you see what he does in AA to know what he's got. Speaking of which, wasn't McCarthy moved up to Winston-Salem by about this point last year? Brian Anderson is the most likely to go guys. He is major league ready, which is a major requirement of getting a high priced arm or bat near the deadlline. Did you think it was Miggy who got the deal done for freddy or was it our major league ready OF prospect Reed. Sweeney will be ready in 07. Which Ironically enough is when Dye 's contact is up. He has a sweet swing and we are getting away from the home runs. Plus Ozzie loves Sweeney ever since last years ST. Pods in CF, Arow in RF and Sweeney in LF will probably be what it is in 07. -
QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) HA...glad your not the manager!! The least of our worries? Well I can only speak for myself but I get pretty damn worried everytime I see him on the mound with the ball. If he needs work he should go down to AAA for a while, we couldnt possibly let him pitch in that many games up here. Wasnt it Koch who made comments like that last year. I am throwing 91 but if I pitch a lot I will get back up to 98 again. The pitched him more and he got lit up more. We are facing Shingo's older brother on Tuesday Byung Yung-Kim. He is still working it out also.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) There are 1 million reasons why Timo will not be off this team anytime soon. They would eat the money, see Ben Davis. Its the fluffer issue.

They really need to consider bringing Baj up in the next few weeks. His stats are pretty good in the bandbox and we need an infusion at right handed reliever. Do we trust Dingo to come into a game, especially in Coors. We get to face Dingo's pitch-a-like in game two. -

I figure Pauly, Uribe and Cruddy will all fall over trying to park every single pitch into the stands. This is way to much of a temptation for them. Pods, Gooch and Arow run wild and free men. Run until you cant run anymore. -
Ozzie and Pods should be licking their chops at the opps they have to run freakin wild on the Rox. I know Cruddy, Uribe and the rest of the Walker fixed hitters will be swingly wildly for the fences, but we shouldnt abandon smallball at coors.
-
So let me get this straight. Ross gload is hitting .350 at AAA in his rehab assignment. But cannot join the team until he plays the OF. We need a backup 1st baseman, but we are really concerned that he plays the OF. We already have 5 guys who can play the OF, why is this a requirement. Why have a good defensive 1st baseman to backup Konerko who has a good left handed line drive stick. Another reason to keep his fluffer on the team. When logic fails, Ozzie can make up some serious s***. Gload will sit down in AAA for another month or so. What a f***ing raw deal.

Thank god Crede is so solid over at 3rd base. Next time stretch a bit Sally and catch the f***ing ball. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) Yeah, we already know that Timo is Ozzie's personal fluffer in the dugout. The X factor on why Timo is still on the team after Gload comes up.

I am a huge anti-cotts guys, and I have to take my hat off to him tonight. Nice f***ing job. Nice Job offense, hitting the ball the other way. This was a great job of hitting the ball where its pitched. Nice approach.
