The economic picture and the layoffs at my job have people acting completely out of their minds. When the owner comes around everyone turns into a cut throat, kiss ass, performance monkey. Why not just carry a sign that reads: "I'm the best at everthing, everyone else here sux, please don't lay me off". People have no shame.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) They should stay safe, and stay home in Mexico. Goes to show how desperate the situation is there. Pretty soon you'll be hearing about people killing their familes and themselves, oh, wait.

Hopefully it'll be a Sox bar. -
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) fat, but not huge Really? Then who is huge to you?

Watched 'Two Lovers' with Joaquin Phoenix and Gwenyth Paltrow. Good film that stays with you. I'm wondering if he makes the right choice in the end. Makes for great discussions afterward.

I like it black, it reflects the city. Chicago is known as a tough, hard working city.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 05:36 PM) What about those of us who just straight up do not like Nirvana? Congrats, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) Good post, I think people sometimes confuse the cultural impact they get credit and pub for over people hyping the music (not me, I love their music). So if someone keeps hearing on Nirvana over and over and sit down and listen to their music I can see how they may think it's overrated. Espically younger kids who don't remember what the mainstream music scene was like back then. It was either glam rock (which FWIW there are some great glam rock bands) or really manufactured pop. Nirvana was just a smack in the face. I was about 13 when Nevermind came out and my cousin had got it before it really broke and to this day I still remember hearing it for the first time. Younger kids will buy Puddle of Mud and Seether CDs, not hear the lousy attempts to mimic Cobain's vocals and then tell you that Nirvana is overhyped. Nirvana couldn't win. You have the people you describe on one hand and then the 'hard core indie' crowd on the other. Those people will remind you that Nirvana wasn't original, that they ripped of so and so, that there were other bands out during that time that were better, but didn't sell out, blah, blah blah. The indie 'scene' existed long before Nirvana, but they helped bring it out of the undergound.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 01:47 AM) Still might be the most overrated band... ever, and I do like them. Good or bad can be debated forever, but their influence on music and culture in that particular era cannot be denied. Unfortunately, they oversaturated the market and the general public burned out on them. When I first heard Nevermind, I knew they were going to go through the roof, so I made a point of not listening to them any more. Of course I'd hear their stuff at bars and parties, but I'd change the station when they came on the radio and would rarely pop in their Cds. So their music is still pretty fresh to me, I have "In Utero" playing in my car right now, I bought it just last week.

QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) I didn't forget them. I remembered them both just fine. . You've got mail in your PMs.

You guys should be ashamed of forgetting The Police And Dinosaur Jr.

My favorites: Dinosaur Jr. The Police Nirvana SRV and Double Trouble
-
Alright let's have it, your all time favorite 3 piece band. Go.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) The girl who sits right next to me at work chews louder than any other girl I've ever met. It cuts through me like a hot knife through butter, but I don't know her well enough to tell her to shut her f***ing mouth. It drives me nuts. Just tell her dude. I work with this chick who would always stick her hand in my plate and take something, like a french fry, or piece of fruit WITHOUT ASKING. I tried to be subtle by saying things like "oh, would you like some of my fries?". She'd just giggle and not realize it was really pissing me off. Finally had to embarass her in front of a few people in the cafeteria.

I usually fall alseep on my side, but like three times a year I fall alseep on my back. Every time I wake up from a nightmare, I realize I've been sleeping on my back. Weird.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) Slumdog is one of the best movies of the past ten years, haters. Forget about it after fifteen minutes? No. Haters? Yep, took that Oscar right otta my hands dammit. I'm hatin'.

QUOTE (The Bones @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) 19/24 with my predictions I posted in the films thread. Not really surprising though this year was pretty predictable. I only missed the 3 shorts categories, Sound Editing, and Foreign Film. As for the worthiness/unworthiness of the winners, you have to remember this is the Academy that we're talking about here. These are the people who never gave Hitchcock an Oscar, did not give Kubrick anything but 1 Oscar for visual effects, and did not give Citizen Kane Best Picture along with many other things that appear laughable now. I personally thought they did pretty well the last two years rewarding Scorsese and the Coens but I guess they were just due for another let down. I don't think Slumdog will be looked back upon as a great film 5-10 years from now. But of the nominees the only two I liked more were Milk and The Reader. I think that those 2 along with The Wrestler, The Dark Knight, and WALL-E will all withstand the test of time better than Slumdog. Great post Bones. Slumdog, is a feel good, put a smile on your face, root for the underdog, love story....that you forget about 15 minutes after leaving the show. It has no replay value for me. I wonder how well it will do with people paying to watch it multiple times at the movies and how well it will do in DVD sales. Although I'm not sure DVD sales is a good measure any more.

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) OK,thats the place then. I thought it was in a more weird location than that. They have a foot long hotdog their called "The Big Unit",after Randy Johnson co-owner obviously. If I worked there, I'd giggle every time a guy ordered "the foot long, big unit". I'm just too immature for that kind of stuff. Anyway, didn't Cooper live at Lake Point Towers at some point? This thread has been quiet lately, has the R n R washed up?

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) Alice Cooper was on Anthony Bourdains show on the travel channel and they did a segment on his restaurant he owns along with Randy Johnson. I thought that was a pretty strange business combination. I think it is located in New Mexico IIRC. I think Cooper owns a bar and grill in Phoenix too.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) I think Penn let it slip at the end that even he thinks Rourke should've won. It didn't sound that way to me. Just a guy giving praise to another guy, good speech overall. I'll be very curious to see which if any doors this will open up for Rourke.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) iTunes has clips occasionally, but hasn't seemed to update in a really long time. I'd love to hear it, I think Alice is a really interesting guy. Interesting, bright and his muscial tastes are all over the place. He plays whatever he wants on that show, that's a great job.

Penn best actor, Winslet best actress, two out of three is good enough for me.

I'm going to what is supposedly one of the few 'official' Oscar parties tomorrow night. Not sure what to expect, but hell, it's free eats and open bar.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) Don't like great actors? he must not....then again I probably know very little about acting

Does anyone ever listen to Alice Cooper's late night radio show? I'm not sure if it's on nationally, but it's just a good mix of rock n roll music.
