  1. Cubs 2 runs 2 hits. Sox 1 run 4 hits, a stolen base, a perfectly executed hit and run , a perfect sac bunt. Rios, Dunn and De Aza all failing with RISP. Flowers comes through.
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 28, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) On Peavy and Rios if I am privy to the trade offers for them I will give my opinion. Otherwise, it serves no purpose to say well I'll take player A. The purpose it serves is to make your opinions worth reading otherwise I'm finished with your rebuild, tear down ,he sucks ,send him down , spend money ,I don't know who I want or even what kind of team I want posts.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) He doesn't know of any specific solutions or he would point them out. He actually asked me to be specific in another thread with a ROTF. He's just one of those dump everyone guys who actually gets a bigger kick out of the White Sox not winning than winning. I wanted to see the gist of what he's been suggesting for a while before I said anything to him but you're right .He lacks depth in anything he says. He just throws stuff out there like the Sox history of not bringing people up when its needed. Yet you never see examples of this apparent trend . When De Aza and Viciedo were tearing up AAA in 2010 or 11 maybe I even wrote KW a letter asking him to bring them up but as far as a history of it I'd ask for more than that covering a few decades unless a history means in KW's tenure , which we don't know because it's all generic blathering with nothing to support it.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) How is Phegley taking over for Flowers not specific? You know I am talking about your 1/2 job of the rebuild you are suggesting.
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) Actually, I don't have a lot of time to write. I guess not since you can point out the problems but not the solutions in any specific terms.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) Well, we can replace them, so that's bad logic. Jones has an era of over 7 in the bullpen. I dont care if he is gone or not, but nearly any replacement would be better than him. I am fine with Gimenez getting a lot more at bats, but he is a bad MLBer too. Probably better than Flowers though. If you want the Sox to compete this year and I think you do since you want to try to ride a hot bat in Phegley then you must tell me who we should have in the pen. The bad logic is saying they can be replaced and still compete. But maybe I'm wrong and you think forget about competing this year and try for next year ?
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) You're ok with Flowers and Jones? What's that got to do with you finishing what you started ? You apparently have a lot of time to write. Go study other ML rosters and minor league systems and tell me who you want . I already know who you don't want.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:16 AM) Yep. We are talking about some of the worst players in all of MLB. Surprised to see anyone defend their roster spots. As for Phegley, he doesn't seem to be much of a prospect. We should probably not worry about his service time, lack of track record, or rushing him. At best we ride his hot bat for awhile and go from there. At worst, he is as bad as Flowers and it doesn't matter anyways. We move on and try to solve our catching woes. I have been suggesting Gimenez get more playing time for a few weeks now and apparently you don't want Santiago or Jones in the bullpen . So you must expect the starters to go 9 innings every game or don''t care if the Sox lose games after the starters go 7 or 8 quality innings. Or you expect their miracle replacements to magically appear and make the pen better.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:06 AM) When the players are as bad as Flowers and Jones, the who replaces isn't the primary concern. It is if you are rebuilding. There is no position in a baseball front office called 1/2 GM. If you want to play GM and rebuild finish the job.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 28, 2013 -> 09:00 AM) ROFL, believe what you want to believe Dick Allen. My position on this team's players has been made very clear whether I post every day or not. It's so easy to say this guy sucks ,trade this guy, send this guy down but unless you're willing to say who to replace them with you have no argument at all .When the replacements don't work out the cycle starts all over again. Trade him send him down they suck. Generic answers like get position player prospects doesn't help. What kind of team are you building ? Speed , OBP, Power ? What positions player prospects are you looking for ? SS? Corner infielders ? Catchers ? Outfielders ? Current Major leaguers ? ML ready ? AA ? AAA? If you can specify you can narrow the list and come up with a few suggestions.
  11. It's not really but Gimenez deserves a shot too and that shot would take us to Phegley's service time.
  12. I'm all for Flowers hitting the pine. The offense can't afford his on the job training since we are in win now mode. Gimenez should get a shot 1st. Another LH bat can't hurt. I was pretty disappointed to see Flowers in there tonight against the right handed Smardzija and he's a switch-hitter. Gimenez can get a month until Phegley hit's the point of his service time being OK .
  13. 3rd perod has been Detroit's Achilles heel all playoffs. Hawks tried to give it right back .After getting a power play ,Sharp gets a penalty to cancel it out . Then Hossa does the same thing.
  14. Sloppy Sox so far. Neither Konerko nor Kepp could get to a ball that landed in the 1st row on foul popup by Rizzo ( Beckham probably would have) and no one covered 2nd base till too late on Castro steal.
  15. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 27, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) I agree with the above. So what position to we trade for though. If people believe that Gillaspie is the answer at 3B then I feel like we really need to add some power somewhere. Power hitting outfielder? Makes sense but good luck trying to find a power hitting CFer cuz I don't think Tank or Rios are going anywhere soon. Same with Beckham, Alexei and maybe Conor. That leaves 1B and Catcher. 1B is a logjam of old s*** right now so that really just leaves catcher. It looks like a position guy has to go along with the starter we trade here. I was thinking along those lines also but we're not exactly overflowing with in demand position players. Kepp , DeAza, Beckham , Flowers I'm sure would all be available even Konerko if you don't mind the minor fan uprising. Ax, one of the above and a prospect for something useful but my forte isn't playing GM. Granderson's been injured this year. He's 32 ,ton's of K's last year ,but huge power at least in Yankee Stadium. Chicago kid $15mill. this year but Free Agent in 2014. Might be worth a shot though a deal with an NL team always seems more likely.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) In the minors? He struggled for a year at AAA in 2010 trying to get his stroke correct as people were messing with it, settled down, and had a much more quality 2011. This is exactly why it sucks trying to develop guys. The norm for guys coming up from AAA is that a year, maybe 2, is necessary before you know what you have. A guy who is a successful backup then struggles for a year upon getting the starting job...that's exactly what should happen, regardless of the age. That's the norm. That's what you should expect. and still 50% of the time or so it doesn't work. It doesn't suck to develop prospects . I'm all for it if the rest of the lineup can handle it but thus far it can't. Plus he hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire defensively either. Since the pitching staff is doing well I'll give him credit for calling a good game but it's not something I can say with 100% conviction. Sox need the most production they can get now from every position.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) Coming into this season, we'd all have agreed that we're incredibly weak in the minors at the catcher's spot, and 2 hot months from Phegley doesn't change that. Letting guys struggle for months is what you have to do to develop people. Sometimes years. If you do it for too many positions, you become the Royals. I believe it does change that , and we're still in win now mode, which is the main point any way. Tyler's had 2 months to show what he's got now Gimenez deserves his chance.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) At least until around the trade deadline, we're going to give Flowers his shot to develop. This is what you have to do to develop youth sometimes; give them the time to struggle. We'll see where we are in July. If he's still .200 and below, then we'll see what's available. I'm more of the mindset that you play match ups . Use Flowers to pinch hit occasionally . Sox need hitting and want to win now so let Flowers prove himself in a part time role or Gimenez for that matter. I just want the team to score some runs and move runners along. I think Gimenez if a better option now to win. I don't think developing Flowers should be that high on the priority list since the Sox seem to be strong in the minors at that position.
  19. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 27, 2013 -> 12:02 PM) I would hope they'd start Gimenez again. They've been winning with him starting and he's been playing better than Flowers. Me too ,but I read where Ventura said Flowers should be back in the lineup today. Smardzija is RH so maybe Hector does get the start but I think Ventura views Flowers as his starting catcher. I don't think Flowers matches up well with Smardzija.
  20. Jesse Crain extended his scoreless outings streak to 20 games. Paul Konerko is hitting .563 (9-for-16) over his four-game hitting streak. Jeff Keppinger had his seven-game hitting streak snapped Sunday. Since returning from the disabled list May 10, Dayan Viciedo is hitting .392 with three doubles, two homers, eight RBIs and 10 runs scored. Flowers will probably be in the lineup today.
  21. What's with the title of the thread ? It's Sox/Cubs not Cubs/Sox.
  22. Did somebody start a rebuild and forget to tell me ? Oh you guys !
