  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) Someone with the MLB Extra Innings Package can offer their opinion on that one. Brandon Phillips, Barney with the Cubs off the top of my head.
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 03:14 PM) Why was Gimenez bunting in the first place? Because 1 run looks good for us and we hit into a lot of DP's.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) 3 might be good enough. July 19 vs Atl, July 24 vs Det, July 29 at Cle. But you have to figure any teams going after starters are going to be busy earlier. It's entirely possible Peavy gets only 1 start before the deadline.
  4. I feel bad that every Sox SP has to be nearly perfect especially Ax to get a win. He has been so good but hasn't got much respect around here.
  5. Just wow on the Susannah Collins firing. The ironic part is that those video's are what got her hired for her 1st sports related job. I'm glad she's got a lot of support and glad the whole old Hawks front office is taking heat over it. Apparently it's fine to have Bobby Hull and Kane be douches because the positives they bring far outweigh the negatives. In Collins case since she isn't a legend or a current superstar or skating around on ice in skimpy clothes or shooting the puck between periods in tight jeans and a low cut sweater she's expendable. Wouldn't surprise me if Wirtz or McDonough saw the videos asked for sexual favors and were tuned down, then they fired her. I know that's a completely irresponsible thing to say. but f*** it I hate spin control/propaganda and micromanaging . It's just perfectly fine to sell sex because sex sells, but God forbid you express an opinion that doesn't jibe with corporate propaganda.
  6. Nelson Cruz is on that list of players possibly being suspended in the Biogenesis investigation. This would make my trade suggestion even more viable except Peavy didn't cooperate by getting hurt.
  7. Ax is like our 2nd best starter now. Any word on what was bothering Peavy ? Never mind I see a thread about it. Like I said in the game thread yesterday. It's pretty typical of the way the Sox season is going. Probably will be DL'ed. Let's hope Sale is immune to whatever curse has hit the Sox this year.
  8. The guests outnumbering soxtalk members paying attention to the game thread.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 08:01 PM) Unbelievable, you have an open base and you pitch to him. Hawk and Stoney are livid with this decision making. How in the hell does Ventura keep his job after this year? Is Ventura here today. He's having 2 days off soon.
  10. Really thought they'd walk Ibanez intentionally after count got to 3-0.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 07:56 PM) Peavy is throwing meatballs tonight. Stoney thinks something is wrong with him. He is laboring . Would typify the season so far if our biggest trade chip ended up hurt again.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) Ventura is the leader and the team reflects his laid back attitude. If there was ever a time to be thrown out of a game it was that missed call at 1st base by Angel Hernandez. Ventura argued some but should've got tossed. Sveum got tossed arguing the same type play and it didn't immediately cost the Cubs a victory as the Sox situation did. When your team is losing show some anger at the umps deserved or not. Show your players winning is important to you. More drastic lineup changes might show that you won't stand for losing but Ventura trots out the same basic line up every day. Show you give a damn Robin, maybe your players will follow suit. Parent must've read this
  13. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 06:06 PM) This is Hollywood stuff. Ventura is the least person responsible for this mess. I'm pretty sure your reading way too much into what I said. By "this mess" I can't be sure exactly what you mean but let's just say it means , bad team , bad minors ,bad contracts. I was only talking about showing you care about winning . Show you hate losing, show you've got the players backs. You are the manager , the field general ,show some passion especially after the recent comments by Kusyner and Parent about the players being too nice.
  14. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) The team has been a little too nice and too subdued because that's the kind of players the Sox have. What they need are some so-called "assholes" like AJ and Carl Everett. These were the true leaders on the field and in the clubhouse. Making a guy like Paul Konerko the Captain was a big mistake. First of all he never even wanted the title. Also he's not the type of guy that will get in a teammate's face when they are being lackadaisical or when they don't have their heads in the game. Maybe guys like AJ and Carl irritated their teammates from time to time but they provided the team with a little edge. Maybe Konerko was given the title of Captain just out of respect for the way he approached his job or maybe he was supposed to be a counter to the manic Ozzie. But with the subdued Ventura as manager and the lack of any on field leaders like AJ or Carl it's no surprise that the team lacks energy and focus. Ventura is the leader and the team reflects his laid back attitude. If there was ever a time to be thrown out of a game it was that missed call at 1st base by Angel Hernandez. Ventura argued some but should've got tossed. Sveum got tossed arguing the same type play and it didn't immediately cost the Cubs a victory as the Sox situation did. 15. If there's one thing that bothers me about the Hawks , it's that when they get a lead they stall the offense and play back on their heels allowing the other team to carry the play. They keep their shifts short , dump the puck more and allow a lot more play in their own end. It's usually pretty sound but even before the playoffs started they had a tendency to give up late goals . One time it's going to burn them . I'm just hoping it doesn't end up being too costly.
  16. I think it's time to get a priest or somebody to bless the bats and balls on a weekly basis. Add him to the coaching staff.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) Worse than Flowers was Sale being completely out of position and not backing up home on the throw. It's the first thing you learn in Little Leagues as a pitcher... Sad. Not that it had anything to do with Crisp being safe or not at home. Usually little league has a metal backstop that is not far behind the catcher
  18. I wonder if Robin is making a statement not having Keppinger play 2nd base since he is one of our hot hitters. Nah.
  19. Why would you want to fire guy who ,took a team that was already bad at drawing walks who said (paraphrasing) , "That's OK dudes walks are over rated," and got the Sox to take even less walks. After all he got Dunn to take less walks and that leg kick thing has worked wonders for Viciedo. Plus everyone on our team who was there last year is hitting better in 2013 than 2012.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 05:34 PM) Except if WE on a message board have already known this for quite some time, every scout/GM/front office in baseball does too. I'll also add Nelson Cruz is not only in decline but in the last year of his contract so Rios could take his place in RF next year.
  21. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) I think Rios could play CF well with his head in the game. When his head isn't in the game he can't do anything. That said, he's talked of being more comfortable in RF than CF so since he's so mentally fragile we'll just keep him in RF, and if we trade him to Texas for a bunch of prospects (how close is this deal from happening?) then they can experiment for themselves, and if he gets thrown off and becomes a .208 hitting lazy butcher then so what, we already made the deal, enjoy the contract you guys. I think Peavy and Rios offer plenty of value to the Rangers since both are signed through 2014 and players option for 2015. I'd tell the Rangers you don't get Peavy without Rios attached. They get 2 of our top 3 players and we get 2 of their top 3 prospects. They get the salaries and a better chance at a World Championship for 2013 and 2014 ,we get to retool with a potential superstar in Profar and a high upside LH CF who won't be a free agent till 2019.

This is all just speculative, but Rangers need another starting pitcher and we need ML ready players with decent upside and to lower the payroll to give us some flexibility.Thread was just for throwing out crazy trade ideas and for those without crazy trade ideas to bash them
