  1. What good is Daryl Boston if he can't tell Greene stay on the base ?
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) Something has got to get this pitching staff stretched out past 75 pitches. Side sessions not to ML hitters.
  3. Any reason to leave Sale out there ? He's got nothing.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 11:27 PM) It's simple...I'm not sure how old you are, but if you've followed the White Sox every season since the late 70's/early 80's, you'll know the only time we've started poorly and closed well in a season was 1983. Quintana was very good. I pointed that out...and I'm hoping it sticks, because that's ONE less problem this organization will have to deal with in the future if he can be a legit 4/5 guy at the back end of the rotation. The missed sacrifice attempt, the lack of hitting with RISP, the botched hit and run....every time we have an opportunity to score, we're just not executing. If we had made the playoffs LAST year, nobody would care at all what was going on the first couple of weeks in 2013, because we'd have faith and confidence in the team. Right now, between the team and manager, there's not really very many compelling reasons to have hope, other than Chris Sale's presence on the team. I suppose, given the internal constraints given on spending any more payroll dollars, Hahn has done a very good job (not with Keppinger) but executing the Gillaspie trade or Brent Morel/Angel Sanchez would be playing 3B for us right now. There's THAT, as well. I'm very old and have followed the Sox so long I can remember my fav players as a kid were Joel Horlen and Ken Berry. Every team uniform I ever wore had a 16 on the back because of Berry. I have no idea why teams from the 70's or 80's have any kind of impact on this years team. Sorry. Every year is a new beginning I like the team now. I can't help it. I always like the Sox chances when it's reasonable to do so. Now if we're coming off a 70 win season and nothing much changed yea I''m not going to be as optimistic. I love the pitching and the hitting is good enough to contend. Things just have to break the right way. Weather that happens is anyone's guess but a few losses now, or last year, or in previous years is not going to affect my hope for this season.
  5. I know the title of the thread paints me as a cheerleader but after being in the game thread and reading some really outlandish comments I had to say something. It's just a lighthearted attempt to say it's early. Hardly a word was said about Quintana's performance which was exemplary.
  6. 4-2 start at home, Sox looked pretty good. 4 losses in a row on the road Sox looked pretty bad. Does it suck ? Yes it do ! But I don't see anything besides the hitting with RISP and OBP that has been terrible. Ok those are 2 pretty big things. I guarantee the hitting with RISP will improve . We suck at taking walks so not much hope there. Now you might say the defense looks bad but has it cost the team much if at all ? Starting pitching's been OK . Relievers not bad at all. Played the Nat's well. Kept the games close. Tigers got swept in the World Series and the Nats might be there this year so no shame in losing 3 in a row in their ball park. Now losing 1-0 tonight sucked. Quintana pitched his ass off. Even Sale would be hard pressed to match 7 innings, 1 hit, no walks and 7 K's. Lots of Sox hitters struggled but it's not like it was Chen out there who sucks against everyone but the Sox. Masterson's been on fire since his first start. He's 3-0 now with a 0.69 ERA . I might not post a lot so some of you might not have a feel for my general over all attitude. So here it is. I'm about as die-hard as you can get. When I say die-hard that means I will not fret over losses early in the season. I will not die nor pronounce the Sox dead after a 4-6 start to the season. I look at the good things happening and think the bad things will turn around but not unreasonably so as witnessed by what I said about our OBP. So chin up ,have a stout heart and die hard.
  7. So no lefty for Swisher who hits better from the left side . Oh Robin.
  8. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:23 PM) this offense is so fundamentally flawed it makes you wonder what we teach guys in the minor leagues, just awful and people don't want to see an all or nothing baseball team How many guys in the lineup are a product of the farm system tonight ?
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) Because he looked horrible in his first start this year as well. You just hope it's not part of a general trend, versus simple "tiredness." We still don't know exactly what we have, because of the horrible weather tonight. One month in AA, never pitched in AAA...who knows what Quintana's final line will look like? Nobody could predict it. A whole 1 start, again sample size.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) Has he come close to getting an extra base hit? If you mean extra base hits then say it .If you mean hit hard then the answer is yes he's hit some hard. No he hasn't come close to an extra base hit.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) Last year, for 4 1/2 months of the season, we led the AL, maybe all of MLB, hitting with RISP. How can we have gone from first to WORST in that time frame? I wonder if a team has ever gone from Top 5 with RISP to bottom 5 from year to year...? Sample size.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:12 PM) Keppinger has not hit anything hard this season. It will be interesting to see if Ventura has the guts to move him down in the order. By hard do you mean for power because his hits have been line drives.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) Now 2 quality starts in his last 9, the other against DET on September 10th. Masterson coming out for the 9th with over 100 pitches. That's a bit of a shocker, in this weather. Hill will likely face Adam Dunn. Have to love Francona's confidence. 108 pitches. Ace vs. the other team's best power threat, RHP vs. lefty batter. Typical manager pulls Masterson and prevents the possibility of a win for his pitcher. Why are you even bothering to count the starts at the end of last year. We all know he pitched a lot more innings in a season than he ever had before .
  14. Might see more scoring in the Blackhawks /Redwings game.
  15. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 08:55 PM) I know the bio reads like a weirdo (which she kinda is) but she's seriously one of the coolest girls I've ever met. I mean besides being an Indians fan, but we all can't be perfect. Time to give her hell !
  16. More fuel for the fire regarding Hawks recent stance on sabremetrics. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/blog_art...arls-of-wisdom/
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 06:05 PM) If Beckham has to Dl, call up Omogrosso and flip to a 6 man rotation for 2 turns. Leaves on kind of short on the bench for interleague play.
  18. Try the Veal. No thanks. Span sitting dead red after failure to throw a strike with the hook.
  19. I'm not going to say Gavin has a Zito curve but I'd sure like to see it more often.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) Crazy, 6 of the 7 video highlights are for the Nationals at MLB.com. And I thought ESPN was biased, lol. Ground out RBI isn't sexy.
