There was no chance the Houston team was winning this game. The ball found their defensive duds and they paid for it all game from the opening drive off Alvarez's glove to the Allen missed ground all by Vargas and again when Allen didn't cover 3rd on the double steal and then BAM !! Meidroth crushed a bomb.

Easy peazy ! So much angst about nothing. Led start to finish both games. Didn't need no 13th pitcher .Didn't even use Schultz. Hicks 10 up 10 down the 2 games. Kay & Fedde, one stuck the knife in the other twisted it and the Stros collapsed.

Good call on the 3 innings. I he only did that once when he was on the Sox in his 18 appearances !

That's a season stats and likely skewed if whatever stat you are using didn't account for games started by openers. This is a short series where guys like Kay will pitch in relief if they need him to and the first game is vitally important in a 3 game series. ANd their game 1 starter is an opener too so he isn't going long. So that leaves game 2 and possibly a game 3.

Don't like Meidroth that low but its understandable if by the time he bats it could be a LH RP in there. Peters, Braden & Benintendi better make me eat my words and crush the RH SP. I just rather have one of our best hitters period nearer the top or middle . Guess they felt they had to go with Montgomery but don't like that either .Their 2 best September hitters by OPS are on the bench Grichuk and Doyle. They have to out homer the Astros in their own park.

Richards pitched 3.1 inning in the last game of the season so likely wasnt available the 1st 2 games of the WC series anyway. Plus Brazoban is back so he's on it. Schultz too and if they use Kay at all it will be in the pen considering he pitched 5 innings in the last game of the season.

They don't have Leasure and Dominquez any more. So that accounts for 8 of the blown saves. Taylor has 6. That's how.

Hard to see him going 3 innings. You likely lose him for game 3 then. He'll go 1 or 2 . I think 2 if he's pitching well.

He still sucks. Their starter isn't going longer in game one. He's a rookie pitching on fumes. The astros have limited his usage to around 30 pitches his last couple times . Him and Hagen likely to pitch the same amount unless they decide to limit Hagen to 1 inning just to have him for tomorrow too or have him extra fresh for game 3.

Then Houston has the same problem . They carried 12 pitchers too and also a BP game in game 1 and their LH RP options are bad. King and Sousa suck.

This is where I am. Meidroth has been one of the Sox best 2nd half hitter and that stadium is built for his power. Can't play Colson, he's been terrible and extra terrible against RHP. Stick Grichuk in LF , Meidroth at SS and Antonacci at 2nd base. Their LH RP aren't that good so just start Grichuk.

Houston is starting a rookie too. But he has pitched more in the majors than Hagen. Blubaugh is doubtful for more than 30 pitches. Probably about the same for Hagen.

Hagen Smith starting. Maybe Fedde or Davis Martin after him.
