  1. Free swinging young guys can drive you nuts. He's been so good at hitting to RF that it's like he actively seeks outside pitches to hit when they are actually his biggest weakness. He'd be much better off zone hitting and looking to pull early in the count and then looking at the outer half once he gets to 2 strikes.
  2. The problem is they are missing so many cylinders or they are corroded. Everyone is injured or playing through injuries You get TA back but he can't run full speed and Engel, Mendick, Moncada go out. Abreu and Robert limping around. Eloy who knows when he'll be back. He's still hitting singles in the minors. Vaughn supposedly isn't 100% . Burger and Harrison dealing with recent HBP ouchies. Giolito and Robert both had Covid. Leury just came back after some time off.
  3. Yesterday was a weird game. Sox had 9 hits, 4 doubles 3 walks. Seemed like every time I looked up some Oriole OF was racing into the gap or toward the line making some outstanding catches . Vaughn hit one off the wall that was a single. Maybe did it twice or maybe that was another game. How many balls did the Sox hit to the wall or shots tracked down into the gap ? Today we see some of those go over the wall .
  4. I think any question anyone has about the lineup the answer is always health related and any question about the IL is money related . Those are your answers. Although Sosa may be one of the few guys not hurting somewhere on the 25 so in that case, play the kid.
  5. Anyone who hits HR's can jump start this team. Sosa can hits HR's. Sox have 4 HR's in the last 7 days while being mostly at home. HR's win games. I like HR's. I like to see 4 HR's a game by the Sox not 4 a week.
  6. They've got 3 guys with double digit HR's the Sox don't have any.
  7. SOP they just don't use the 60 day IL right away same with Crochet. Maybe they always want to keep the 40 full for as long as possible before adding anyone else to it. Do you get paid more being on the 40 rather than not ? Do you get paid more on 40-man roster? Players on the 40-man make more money Minor League players not on a 40-man roster are paid from April through August, while rostered players earn an extra month of salary in September whether they're promoted or not.
  8. Right same as Eloy 6-8 weeks and they didn't put him on the 60 day until just now when they 60 days is already up tomorrow. Crochet wasn't put on the 60 day IL until May17th. Standard procedure is to wait to put someone on the 60 day.
  9. Did they announce surgery planned for Mendick already? If not a smaller tear might be rehabbed without surgery.
  10. Because Eloy can come off the 60 any time soon but he's already not due back until after the 60 days is up on his current rehab asssignmnet and Mendick can be placed on the 60 any time later. 60 day IL is a last resort kind of move and you're not put on it until you are 100% sure that player will be out a minimum of 60 days.
  11. He hasn't played since April 23rd . He was expected to miss 6-8 so he was never put on the 60 day IL .But since he won't be back til some time in July now he's officially on the 60 day IL. I doubt it matters for his timetable to return. It just opens up a roster spot.
  12. Don't know about that. If he does well he's a potential superstar. If he struggles ( which is likely to happen) it's not much of a showcase. A better showcase might be sticking him in AAA and letting him rake there too in a ball park made for hitting.
  13. No I meant truly questioning why an all right handed type lineup really matters if all the RHH are good players.
  14. Frankly I'm baffled by the amount of posts questioning why handedness matters.
  15. Sometimes fate steps in to persuade the powers that be to make what I'm sure the Sox management perceives as a move born out of desperation. I'm cheering for fate.
  16. I guess it depends on how you look at it. Marte would cost money and players since he got a contract extension . Thomas still can succumb to the vagaries of rookie struggles but has certainly made a great impression. There would be hardly any cost to the payroll so the cost would be in players . So I'm not sure it would cost more. You're going to give up at least 1 or 2 quality players for Marte even with the new contract. Thomas isn't a sure thing yet so cost for him is hard to gauge but have to give quality to get quality.
  17. Probably because his OAA and RAA are both in positive territory plus he has a solid arm which along with his quickness helps in turning the DP. Even though the batting average isn't high he gets a lot of extra base hits which is why his slugging and wRC+ is so high.
  18. He just needs to be effective for however long he pitches. That's all you can ask. Keep us in the game. No one goes deep any more. Amazed how often I hear that. 6 innings is deep for most pitchers these days.
  19. He'd be hard enough to get him near the trade deadline that gives him another 20-25 games ? Sox need a LH OF who can play great defense and not be a black hole offensively. Throw in the speed and youth. He could be special. Currently on a 12 game hitting streak. 1-3 ,walk, stolen base yesterday. Last 2 weeks very hot batting .340 .426 OBP 0 HR but .809 OPS.
  20. Thomas has 1 fWAR in 40 games already in his 1st taste of MLB. Upside could be 5 fWAR, kind of easy to project that based on what we're seeing already.
