  1. They need the thump everywhere in the lineup. I just broke it down by Slugging Percentage because OPS is propped up by walks in our LHH's. But when Madrigal is your top Slugging guy against LHP ,besides Vaughn who blows everyone else away vs. LHP you need help badly. Abreu was probably ahead of Madrigal when Nick got injured but he isn't anymore. Plus everyone thinks the Sox are some juggernaut against LHP but that isn't even true anymore. Escobar instantly becomes one of our best hitters from both sides of the plate despite his low OBP because he can hit HR's. Against RHP I'd put Moncada, Grandal, Escobar ABreu , and hope to get more 2 and 3 run HR's that way because of Grandal's and Moncada's ability to take a walk. Against LHP I'd have a 3 4 5 of Vaughn, Abreu and Escobar.
  2. For those who think Escobar is meh please be advised that his 15 HR's would currently lead the team. His .743 OPS would currently be 4th on the Sox behind Moncada, Abreu and Anderson and only Moncada is barely above .800 OPS. Moncada's OPS is propped up by his walks. If Moncada get's injured Escobar can replace him at 3rd base. Escobar's Slg % is .455 which would be 1st on the Sox. Abreu 's is .448 Moncada's is .403. Mendick Slg % is .315 . Against RHP his Slg % is .431 which would put him 3d behind Abreu's .569 and Mercedes .524 but since Mercedes can't be counted on anymore might as well say Escobar would be 2nd. A few others with insignificant PA's are higher than Escobar but you get the drift. Against RHP his 10 HR's would be 1st on the Sox. Against LHP his 5 HR's would be tied with 2nd with Vaughn only behind Abreu's 6. Against LHP his Slg. % is .530 which would be 3rd on the Sox behind Vaughn and Abreu . Contrary to popular belief without Eloy, Robert and Madrigal who actually had the Highest Slg Pct against LHP on the Sox (besides Vaughn) when injured, the Sox do not kill LHP anymore. After Vaughn's outstanding .726 Slg. vs. LHP and Abreu is Mercedes and he can't be counted on anymore. After Mercedes is Grandal at .417 . After Grandal not a single regular above .358 . All of this should tell you that if you think Escobar is meh then you should think the whole lineup is meh especially against RHP and yes ,even against LHP. He is definitely better than Mendick and just about anyone on the Sox in an area where the Sox suck and that is power and slugging from both sides of the plate. When your 2 best LHH's OPS are propped up by walks putting Escobar behind our walk machines whether he hits righty or lefty Escobar is a pretty big upgrade.
  3. When I 1st heard him, I thought Gordan sounded a lot like Darin Jackson until I listened a little more closely and heard the slight twang.
  4. Pretty impressive stuff from Schwarber. 3 days ago Escobar was out homering him 15 to 13 . Now with the 5 in last 2 days it's 18-15 Schwarber.
  5. Nope and the Sox aren't the only team doing it either.
  6. I would add Lamb also has to be in the lineup because he has the same amount of HR's as Moncada in 3X less PA's plus his OBP is pretty good. I don't like using Vaughn every day because you can't count on him to turn it around vs. RHP and Leury ,as was pointed out, is hitting better and adds far more speed and defense than Vaughn. You also have Goodwin against RHP who might be a better choice than Leury if you happen to think he can keep performing against RHP like he has since being brought up in the SSS. It's outstanding so far. Vaughn is superb vs LHP so for that alone I wouldn't sent him down and while he's around I'm sure he will keep getting PT against RHP but every day, no.
  7. You're not the boss of me !
  8. No don't do that ! Your time and effort here is greatly appreciated !! Ron certainly won't be picking up the slack.
  9. They have more than that. Teams will definitely be asking about Ramos and Rodriquez with Kanny 2 19 yr. olds with big upside and decent performances so far.
  10. Hopefully he's fine .But even if he isn't he's got 5 weeks til the TDL and acquiring him injured with an expected prognosis of a return to health relatively soon ,he might be cheaper.
  11. Welcome to the Jack Parkman Panic Attack Fan Club.
  12. I don't think he or Jason is going on the road this year nor any of the crew that normally would accompany them. Sox cutting expenses.
  13. They could because they have some good pieces there and since some of them are very young it's more about the tools than performance with them. But I guarantee Kelley, Thompson, Krogman , Horn and Dahlquist and especially Jose Rodriquez and Bryan Ramos would be very interesting to other teams. Practically anyone could be used as a throw in among the names I didn't mention.
  14. 2008 They got Ken Griffey, Jr. 1/2 hr. before the TDL. 2010 Got Edwin Jackson for Daniel Hudson and David Holmberg. 2012 They traded Eduardo Escobar and Pedro Hernandez for Francisco Liriano and he wasn't very good that season with the Twins or the Sox. Youkilis they got 6/24 . They also brought up Danks 6/7 and he pitched about as well as Liriano. Brett Myers 7/21 . He pitched decently for the Sox but fora guy who had 19 saves when acquired , he ended up with none for the Sox. So realistically if Covid is still an excuse not to spend and limiting acquisitions due to not wanting to hurt what's left of the farm system or not having the bullets needed, I'm not expecting more than 2 guys. One for the bullpen and 1 for the lineup.
  15. I'd say great if they also got Escobar but he brings nothing besides LH power. Would help to get that sure, very helpful in fact ,but speed, defense, versatility all lacking . Escobar is helpful in more ways so more valuable. He can fill in for an injured Moncada and take Mendick's spot in the everyday lineup and switch hits so his power plays from both sides of the plate. 10 of Escobars 15 HR's come against RHP . 17 of Schwarbers 18 are off RHP. It's hard to pick one over the other but I'd lean to Escobar in case Moncada has any extended absences. But give me both and I'm even happier. If the Sox can manage that and a really good RH relief pitcher. That might be expecting too much from them. I don't think they are that bold or truly would make the commitment necessary to win it all this year. Hopefully the Nationals will come around to selling but we already know the Diamondbacks will be ,so ,theoretically Escobar could be a help sooner. I'd also be shocked if the Sox don't slow play any acquisitions and some of their targets get snatched by another team.
  16. Look what you did . You got Flash calling him Winkler instead of Winker. Sunday ,Monday , Happy Days, Tuesday, Wednesday Happy Days ! The Fonz thanks you.
  17. Dodgers too went through a bad stretch of losing something like 15 of 20 . Sox aren't even close to that. Dodgers have some tough competition . The Sox for the most part don't. Anything can happen but I would suspect they will continue to beat the bad teams and stay on top and get much better when they make trades and get Eloy and Robert up to speed. I really don't care how they get too the best record in the AL but that should be the goal. They play very well at home.
  18. I think it's rare to go from MVP to finished. Most players have a slow decline rather than all at once. He'll pick it up not to MVP status but he won't be a liability, Ron has sounded the Jose death knell before. Sooner or later he will be right and then what? He'll tell us all he told us so when he gets it right for the 1st time in 10 such predictions ?
  19. So now we get the pinch hitters instead of them with men on base .
  20. Ouch ! time for Nik Turley or Ofriedy Gomez from AAA.
  21. Tony rarely pinch hit's . It's annoying . He couldve pinch hit for Mercedes or Vaughn.
  22. Hey thanks again for the link you gave me earlier in the season. I didn't get around to using it until the inning that just finished but it's nice to have the use of it. I used bilas sports one.
  23. That's not a bad thing . All good teams do it. Just have to stay patient and wait for reinforcements while maintaining the lead in the Central and within shouting distance of the best record in the AL. They are already a strong team but with flaws . Fix some of the flaws and and wait for 2 of our best players to return and I really believe this team has a good shot at getting to the World Series.
  24. I assume you are here because you want to be here. If not I'm sure the mods can accommodate you. Caulfield abides by the rules. Being negative or talking about other teams is not against the rules.
