Congrats Bama. My daughter had a boy who just turned 1 June 23rd. Is he your 1st grand child ?

Your best pitcher who has pitched 42 innings combined the last 2 years. How many innings do you think he is capable of this yr ? He's already pitched 79 innings and the season isn't half over. If he had pitched 150 Innings last year you could reasonably expect 175-200 IP this year. He pitched 8 innings last year. Do the math . Unless he is monitored closely and shut down for a month or longer this year like Kopech he isn't going to make it through the playoffs and if he does he won't be the same pitcher he is now . Maybe Kopech can pick up the slack but if you can also get Gallen there's your replacement for Rodon this year and Lynn next year if his arm holds up. If it doesn't you still have him through 2026 so you can still get a few years of him healthy .
-
Why not Rodon and whoever for Zac Gallen and Escobar ? Sure it's crazy to think about. But Rodon is gone next year and his health for the rest of the year and throughout the playoffs is questionable. Gallen's health is also questionable. He missed part of spring training with a stress fracture in his pitching arm and just missed a month and a half for a partial UCL tear. Today is his 1st start since then. AZ might be wise to trade him now before TJ surgery. However he doesn't become a FA until 2026. What if the Sox wanted to wait on a trade for Escobar to see how Gallen pitches today or another start after today ? Lets say his arm holds up for 2 starts it's still at risk considering a partial tear of the UCL just doesn't heal in 1.5 months . Then there's the stress fracture earlier so his pitching arm is taking quite a beating. Any trade with AZ might also take a bit longer because their GM is on leave because of his wife's illness and they brought in Allard Baird a former GM and expanded the role of the Asst. GM. Trading Gallen would be a big decision for them . Also would be a big decision for the Sox to trade Rodon so they could stipulate that the Dbacks can trade Rodon to any team except the Indians as part of the trade. Any way would be quite ballsy on the part of both teams so not likely to happen . Most think trading Rodon would be a concession speech for this season but it doesn't have to be that way. Have to think outside the box some times.

Oh damn forgot that yesterdays game was someone elses thread and I made a thread for todays game but if they win the suspended game that wasn't right of me . They can delete my thread and change yesterdays thread as you suggested. But if that is your thread you can edit it yourself to change the title just as you would edit any post.

No starting line ups yet. Looks like Keuchel will begin the suspended game. Go you White Sox !

The way I look at it is you go into next year without Rodon and Lynn. That's a kick in the butt of a way to start the off season. No matter who you get at the trade deadline a lot of the Sox chances to win depend on Rodon's arm holding up , which in itself is dicey and Eloy and Robert returning to form another dicey proposition. Chances of winning the World Series are slim every year even with a very good team. Chances improve for the coming years if you can add another quality SP when you are losing 2 of them. Plus next year hopefully Eloy and Robert can stay healthy.
-
Oh yea just trading him would be very controversial but if he's traded to the NL then or any playoff team in the AL that team could be eliminated before the Sox face him or if the Sox face him and lose to him they could still win the series.
-
However he is also going to have to be watched very closely. You can't automatically say he's our 1 guy in a long playoff run because his combined IP for the last 2 years is 42 innings. Can you reasonably expect him to pitch 150+ innings this year ? At some point this year he's going to have to be Il'd like Kopech has been in order to get him through the playoffs. If he can be replaced with another pitcher of high quality it's intriguing.

I've seen this somewhere before. Oh yea it was me in my fun idle speculation last night. I know people will say it's dumb but it's actually not. What if the Sox are working on getting another starter right now. Lets say Zac Gallen in a trade with Escobar. Now if you keep Rodon obviously he walks as a free agent and you get nothing which is why it sucks to luck into Rodon being good and not be able to cash in on your luck by trading him because he is a main cog for this year. But if you trade him , you get Gallen to replace Rodon. Obviously you'd also have to make a pretty good offer besides Rodon, like Crochet and Madrigal or Crochet and 2 prospects. Diamondbacks then trade Rodon for whatever they can get then. Hard to say exactly what Rodon and Gallen are worth with Rodon a mystery about how many innings he is capable of pitching this year and Gallen just coming off the IL with the partial tear in his UCL and a stress fracture in his pitching arm earlier. Could be a 3 way trade. Sounds pretty tempting to me.
-
What if the Sox are working on getting Gallen and Escobar? Now that would be cool ! There was the old Gallen for Madrigal talk before even if it was made up. Maybe the Sox want to see how Gallen pitches today after coming off the IL for a partial UCL tear. That's not good. Tommy John surgery in his future would reduce the price for him. He also had a hairline stress fracture in his throwing arm during spring training.

I'm just idly speculating if something big actually happens. 1st off skeptical on something big and 2. Not likely with another contender. I mean we could talk about something big involving their injured guys like Eloy, Robert or Madrigal. Anything I bring up is just fun to talk about not anything that's likely to happen. Of course people are going to say they aren't doing this or that but what if they do ? That's the fun part. People will hate it of course but is it that impractical to think the Sox give up impending free agents or guys with injury histories to help the team this year or in the next few years ? That doesn't mean giving up on this year since it depends on what you get back.
-
I don't think he was talking about a trade with the Jays , just that his source with the Jays hears the Sox are very active unless the expect something big soon is actually involving the Jays . They need pitching and with Springer back maybe can afford to give up hitting. Hard to imagine the Sox giving up one of Lynn or Rodon to a contender but if the tradeoff is mutually beneficial to each others needs who knows. Maybe the Sox just put Kopech into the rotation then. If you give up one of Lynn or Rodon wouldn't you think it would be Rodon and would the Jays actually want him since he's also a free agent with a dubious injury history and questionable with innings pitched limits making his 2nd half /playoff contributions somewhat hazy ?
-
Anything's possible I suppose . He's a switch hitter but if you are talking Frazier and Reynolds I'd shudder to think who they give up since Reynolds is controlled a long time and way up there in WAR. Taking those 2 away from Pittsburgh would be some next level shit and I'd have a hard time believing anything the Sox could offer couldn't be topped by teams with better prospects. If the Pirates trade those 2 they are reduced to ashes.

Good new since JR has supposedly given the green light to doing whatever it takes at the trade deadline. -

True but those are guys who are going to be in the lineup regardless. We argue about the scrubs vs potentially impactful raw rookie bat because it's debatable who should be playing. -
What would make you think they would take Eaton and Marshall. If they are going to eat some salary surely they would also want a decent prospect not retreads. Who we rather in the lineup and naming our current bench players forced into action and naming any over the hill player with a big name and a big contract is irrelavant. No brainer or not it's never that simple.
-
Why couldn't the Sox just go after Escobar and Starling Marte since they are free agents ? Yes it will cost prospects but combined salary would be right around $10M for the rest of 2021. Looking at Blackmon's contract would cost the Sox around $45M from the TDL through 2023 in his age 35 , 36 and 37 seasons. He turns 35 July 1st. Plus you are losing 2 of your best starting pitchers after this year and that money could be used to find more pitching. I think I can safely safe the Sox would not pursue Blackmon. The Sox won't do anything extravagant. They will walk the fine line between saving money and deciding which prospects are worth giving up. Even with the supposed go ahead from Reinsdorf I'm sure he would prefer cost effective moves over committing more money to future years.
-
Will the Sox ever see the full potential of Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert ? Seems like a pretty simple question on the surface. With young guns like Guerrero , Jr. and Fernando Tatis, jr. currently setting the baseball world on fire how do you feel about it. This might have been the year to expect huge breakouts from Eloy and La Pantera but in their short careers we have only caught glimpses of the huge upside for both. Both seem to be off the field more than they are on it. Maybe an even more important question is will we ever see it in the same season where both Jimenez and Robert play 140+ games ? I know it's in our nature as Sox fans to temper expectations or think that everything that can go wrong will go wrong . So far that's been pretty accurate with Jimenez and Robert. Their potential impact is huge . Will they ever reach it ?

Sox probably will have the minimum 1 player. Probably Hendricks. Might get another one from Lynn and Rodon.
