  1. If you think he gets 4 /60 or more i think you will be wrong but we will see.
  2. I have been making arguments against framing for years but hey the stats people keep bringing it up as if its something that is very reliable. It's one of those things that people just use instead of truly thinking that there is a whole lot of people involved in who gets strikes called. Sure there are catchers that do a better job framing than others but it's still dependent on the pitcher and the ump . It's might be useful for example when a catcher sets up low and outside and a pitcher throws it low and outside but a pitch that is missing its intended target by a wide margin but still in the strike zone is not a pitch that can be framed well and any strike called is purely up to the umpire. We saw last night the HP ump wasnt calling pitches up and to the umpires left for either pitcher. That ump appeared to be setting up more to the right so those pitches probably just seemed too far away from him to be called strikes but many of them were strikes if the square strike zone on our TV's is to be believed.
  3. Exactly. Just because Grandal made a mistake not taking a good offer doesn't mean he will or should get more a year later,He is someone to watch but he doesn't deserve a whole lot of money or years thrown his way.
  4. Jack said the same thing about TOR starters from Gio/Cease/Kopech but as with all young pitchers the question is not only thinking you will get TOR starting from them but WHEN will you get it. That could still be 2/3 years from now. Giolito is 25 now and while much improved we still have to question if he can maintain pitching the way he has. Cease and Kopech may not ever reach the level Giolito has this year and if I were a betting man i'd say they wont reach that level next year .
  5. 42 games plus however many games they miss at the beginning of next year also and if they need an acclimation period that's more time . I realize competing next year might not happen with such a young starting staff and a bunch of young position players. But if they are going to throw money at FA pitchers and even that is questionable, but let's say for arguments sake they land some good FA pitchers why can't next year be a year to mke the playoffs. Chisox59 thinks the Sox could be competing for a playoff spot next year so his arguments for keeping them down doesn't make me understand why he thinks they can compete without them for the early part of the season.
  6. You can keep saying it's idiotic but many think it isn't but we just don't say keeping them down is idiotic like it's something that shouldn't be questioned. I know you think the Sox should or could compete next year so how is keeping them down conducive to winning next year ? Sure maybe in 2025 but why not just say next year is still a year where the Sox won't make the playoffs if you think they should be kept down.
  7. I don't see TX letting him go cheaply since he is still 24 with an upside of 40-50 HR's. Plus he only has 2 years remaining till FA so unless he comes a lot cheaper than I think I don't see it. Also supposedly not a good fielder.
  8. We're pretty much in agreement but I just don't see RF as a pressing need. 2 pretty good starting pitchers should be what the Sox concentrate on with Cease in his 1st full year and Kopech returning from injury while keeping fingers crossed that Giolito and Lopez can be consistently good. 1 year of Corey Dickerson in RF wouldn't be terrible. Puig I don't want unless they can do an investigation to learn if he has matured from his early days as a problem man/child. Ozuna is interesting as he is near the top of the list as far as hard hit balls this year so he might be hitting into some bad luck but I would imagine he will get at least 3 years and that's not necessary. He is an interesting possibility though.
  9. For 1 year anything above $12M but if I were the FO i would wait and see who else we sign 1st to get a clearer picture of payroll available and see if Abreu is serious about staying with the Sox as he fields other offers. When a guy says he will be on the Sox next year no matter what or something to that effect then you have to call him on it and test it and if he signs somewhere else so be it.
  10. Sure you can be confident on or 2 emerging all you want but when is the question ? You can't wait on the when and that's why a TOR starter is necessary now.
  11. But having a good to very good Collins and Vaughn is very important to the rebuild and makes buying free agents much easier when holes are filled. Sox can't give up 6 years to buy expensive veterans for only a few years. They have payroll space, use it. I don't think the Sox are serious about competing next year so they might try to find a RF for a year and wait on the minor league OF's. I say they aren't serious because they are still letting guys like Castillo, Goins and Engel play a lot instead of giving AB's to Mercedes, Mendick, Collins, Robert or Madrigal. Now we can debate who is ready and who isn't among that group but it just seems to me that if they are going to wait until late April to bring up Robert and Madrigal or maybe just Robert, then it's like they don't care about having the best possible lineup out there at the beginning of the season. Wins in April count just as much as wins in September. If you want to win worrying about an extra year of control on some guys isn't really about winning asap. Maybe they still want a higher draft position and that's why the scrubs are still playing. I would think Mercedes , Mendick and Collins might be up in Sept. but not Robert and Madrigal.
  12. Arguably JD Martinez was available or perhaps I should say he was definitely available . I know me and fathom wanted him when the Red Sox seemed to be the only ones who wanted him and signed him to a very unique contract. That was in the early stages of the rebuild however so the Sox weren't interested. Available yes , interested , no.
  13. 1 year DH around $10 M . Yea pay him. Wasn't it you who said our DH's this year have an OPS in the .580 range ? Abreu would be a nice upgrade for about what we paid Alonso this year.
  14. Don't see them moving either one. If Collins isn't the LH power bat they need, Vaughn may provide power and OBP from the right side and potential starter at 1st with a decent glove. They need some power/middle of the order hitters and cheap ones at that. They're/we're hoping Vaughn can advance through the minors quickly.
  15. I don't think so.Sox are desperate for a LH power hitter and more OBP . He provides both. Also desperately need some DH production , someone to play backup 1st and backup catcher. He's like everything they need if he can hit ML pitching.
  16. Didn't Belle have 48 or 49 ? Can't remember the year .
  17. It's appreciated what you do.
  18. Appears he has made a number of changes in his approach and load/swing. There's always hope: After winning Reds Minor League player of the year honors in 2016, Aristides Aquino stalled mightily in Double-A during the next two seasons. He did slam 37 homers in 245 games at Penascola, but he batted an overall .227/.293/.421 and fell out of the Reds' Top 30 Prospects list. While Aquino had impressive raw power and arm strength, he looked doomed to become just another toolsy prospect waylaid by an inability to make quality contact. The Reds removed the outfielder from their 40-man roster last November and non-tendered him, though they re-signed him to a Minor League contract the next day. Adopting an exaggerated open stance this spring has made a world of difference for Aquino, who spent the first four months of this season batting .299/.356/.636 with 28 homers in 78 Triple-A games. Called to Cincinnati on Aug. 1 after Yasiel Puig went to the Indians in the Trevor Bauer trade, "The Punisher" became the first big leaguer ever to deliver eight homers in his first 12 games, including three in one contest against the Cubs.
  19. Monday August 12th Altuve, Venezuela ;Correa and Maldonado Puerto Rico:; Gurriel, Diaz and Alvarez, Cuba, I count 6. What exactly were you counting ?
  20. No Moncada tonight but Collins had a huge day 4/5 2 HR's 6 RBI including game tying walk with 2 outs in bottom of the 9th. Robert 2/5, 3 runs scored. Yermin 2/5 with a HR, Madrigal 0/5.
  21. Knight's win on RBI single from Tilson. Nice comeback after SWB put up a snowman in the 7th to lead 12-8.
