Rosenthal: Could Harper be headed to the southside
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Interesting take from one of our elder stateswoman here. I'm not sure I would want to wait. Each passing year, I'll be 61 shortly, and I say don't let me die while they suck . LOL. I think they still need established really good veteran players .It could take years for many of those kids to blossom. Guys like Lester and Verlander. Jd Martinez they all were key pieces to their teams winning the World Series. -
I love it. One of those things where if he was hitting .088 we can say SSS but .448 in the SS just confirms his greatness.

Only when they suck as OF's. Some of us like good defense where extra base hits can be turned into outs and big innings avoided. -
Maybe they have a trade lined up where someone wants Collins ? That could be a reason.

Source Code: under rated movie set in Chicago about an almost dead Army helicopter pilot but with brainwaves used by scientists to stop a terrorist attack. Pilot had to relive the train ride over and over until he found the terrorist. Then he died. I see some correlation here. -

Just so you know and someone please correct me if I'm wrong. When you say "my source" shouldn't it means that you talk to someone directly who has connections in the White Sox organization and not a Facebook group ? -

A cruel one. Enough with making up fake news not in green already. The fact that he prefaced it with "not to be that guy" and repeated the TIFWIW thing twice makes it semi believable. -

If you think JD Martinez is Abreu then you should be comparing their last 2 years since IS is present tense. I also like Abreu so we're not really arguing about much here but he'd be worth a helluva lot more if his last 2 season were like Martinez'. I also made a mistake on JD's OPS in that 4 yrs. Sorry about that. -

Depends on who I was a fan of. I'd probably be saying they have no chance. -

Once he comes up we should have a predict his numbers thread. I think I was the best when we did that with Abreu. I think I got indirectly accused of cheating like editing after the fact. -

JD Martinez is a much better hitter than Abreu. He is an elite hitter. Over 1.000 OPS the last 4 season in a row. Abreu's last 4 season he barely cracked .900 OPS once .Besides I'm not saying not to go after Harper. I want him or Machado just like everyone else. Just saying Boston made everyone else look like idiots for what they got him for . I also said the contract he signed with Boston would not have worked with us. -

Good teams don't wait to fill their needs. Boston did last year with the late JD Martinez signing but I'm pretty sure there wasn't much competition for him. Me and Fathom were pretty much the only guys on Soxtak who wanted him. JD Martinez 5 yrs/$110 opt out after 2 years, Harper 10yrs/%400 ? Quite the disparity for a similar hitter Martinez might even be a better hitter. I realize he was a final piece for Boston and it worked out perfectly . Also not saying the Sox absolutely should've bid on him. That opt out after 2 years wouldn't have worked with us. He will be available again after 2019 season I think . Actually the contract is very complicated.. Boras is also his agent. -

When the D'backs signed Greinke it was right after they signed a 20yr/$1.5 Billion TV contract. Our new contract will be negotiated after the 2019 season. Plus the low payroll and that's a boatload of money to spend to augment the rebuild. -
Winter Meetings Leaguewide Scuttlebutt

Not only that but teams are trading for needs . I really don't think it's been that slow. Goldsmith, Corbin, Eovaldi ,Donaldson,Paxton,Cano and everyone involved in that. . Some pretty big names already. -
Be afraid, be very afraid.

Winter Meetings Predictions
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Oh I get it and I like Lamb and Avila but I don't like old Greinke getting $35M a year for another 3 years when you could probably get Happ or Morton for a lot cheaper. Or maybe you want a shot at Sale ,Bumgarner or Cole next year which gives Kopech time to heal and Cease and Dunning to get their feet wet. I realize you were talking about a "go stupid" in 2019 scenario but we could fill those holes easier and cheaper this year without giving up any prospects and probably get the same production. -
Winter Meetings Predictions
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Don't forget posting fee for Kikuchi even though personally I have no interest in him. Interesting trade . Wouldn't make it until after whales sign if at all. Seems like getting a lot of salary while giving up maybe 2 guys with a shot at the majors (Walker and Sheets) but still mostly unknown how legit their shots are, Also throwing in Lamb and Avila seems like an overpay . 3 years of Greinke in his 35, 36 and 37 yr old seasons at $35M / yr.is crazy good money for an old pitcher. No matter how good he's been it can't last forever especially transitioning back to the DH league. Roundabout way of saying neither team would or should do it. -
Quietest HOF announcement ever. Congrats Harold !

Update per Heyman: White Sox one of 3 teams meeting Machado
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
90-100M ? I don't even like speculating they could sign both. It seems almost impossible but for arguments sake lets say both get 10 yrs. $400M for Harper and $350M for Machado .That would be $75M /year. Unless contracts are front loaded the first 3 years or so might be in your range but less than $75M/ yr after that if they don't opt out.
