  1. Well sure if you look at them as finished products with no room to improve. Guess its the old prospects are suspects until they change your mind. There's all of next year to see who climbs the ladder.
  2. Yea for those who havent seen the movie that's what gets us guys. Field of Dreams to me is like a combination of Ken Burn's Baseball when it really was America's Game and the ties that bind father to son through something as simple as playing catch.
  3. Have you been following just how good Tatis has become ? When he was tearing through the minors I remember saying to those saying how bad the trade was can we at least see if he becomes a quality major league ballplayer . Well it's official unless he's a 1 year wonder but he is really good.
  4. Thinking it will be nationally televised. It's actually a big event.
  5. Iowa is also Cubs territory so Sox getting some exposure there.
  6. Don't know for sure but I doubt they use a field with those dimensions. Pretty sure they are building or have built a small stadium for this event, Just found this: But Aaron Judge and his fellow MLB stars won't be playing on the same diamond that was created for the Kevin Costner movie. Instead, they'll play at a temporary 8,000-seat ballpark. https://www.npr.org/2019/08/08/749507311/mlbs-yankees-and-white-sox-to-play-at-field-of-dreams-farm
  7. For jumping so many levels and performing pretty well and also seeing how many here want to see him get a shot at DH it's odd perhaps not to see Yermin Mercedes on the top 30 nor the just missed lists. I do understand he doesn't profile well at catcher and might be strictly a DH and is on the old side but is he not still a prospect since he is in the system and can be of some use to the Sox if he can hit at the highest level ? I guess he has become something of a cult figure as the Yerminator.
  8. Stupidest post in the history of stupid posts. This is how you can tell someone is biased or is so locked into his history of hatred against another person that he has to keep hating. He is implying Abreu is at his best because there is no pressure because the Sox don't have a shot at the playoffs but if they did then these wouldn't be his best months. So it's Jose fault the Sox don't make the playoffs because he sucks early. He is only good later because he is afraid to win. To agree or partially agree with that post means you must agree that Jose sucks either early or late and he dislikes winning and can't perform under pressure. Also that he purposefully is bad before the trade deadline because he doesn't want to be traded. Abreu is basically being bad on purpose or throwing games,
  9. Always fun to get an easy win. Cordell really crushed that HR.
  10. Then I'd say it is very realistic to expect it in that range again. After all that was the point of rebuilding .Lower payroll get young talent that will perform at the MLB level ,then fill holes with FA because of lowered payroll. I'm not optimistic they even know how to sign big free agents. They seem hopefully out of touch when Machado is offered a contract with the Frank Thomas diminishing skills clause in the guise of a "just stay on the field" clause. Now, how that might apply to pitchers, which has been Reinsdorf bigger of his Achilles heels in free agency, I don't know . Seems even less likely. All I know is they better make a splash early to show how serious they are. That could help other FA's and fans know the Sox mean business. After all that would help season ticket sales.
  11. Caulfield please delete that from the game thread or a mod . It has no place here.
  12. I would like to hear Goins, Goins, Gone ! OK I'll take that single too.
  13. Of course we aren't but you add Madrigal also and some quality FA arms a RF etc. who is to say they don't have a shot at the playoffs? Id gladly take Rendon and move Moncada back to 2nd base or even let Rendon play 2nd base. Scooter Gennett , MadBum, Strasburg if he opts out, Wheeler , Betances plenty of decent options out there. Have to use that payroll flexibility sooner than later. Sustained success is a lie. Make a run at winning a title in the next 5 years starting next year.
  14. Yes it was benign. If you google Hahn and aggressive it's one of his favorite lines. It actually means absolutely nothing. All it does is convey a message that they will be working .
  15. QS for Gio although he struggled a bit but got out of a couple of jams via the DP. Sox with 14 hits led by the bottom third of the order. Timmy with 3 hit and McCann and Sanchez with 2 each and an RBI each.. Goins got on base 3 times with 1 hit and 2 walks and a ribbie. . Abreu got 2 hits and a walk and an RBI. Cordell with 2 RBI on a bloop double.
  16. Ahh didn't know there was DH tomorrow.
  17. To keep him sharp I suppose since I don't think he has pitched much while the Sox were losing so much.
  18. I like him but his name is misspelled a lot Think of it Lee ury and then you'll get the E before the U.
  19. Eloy can't get out of his own way. Literally nothing decent to swing at. Hardy living on the edges . I know he loves to extend his arms but he should literally not swing at anything going close to the outer third or in on his hands. If the umps ring him up so be it. He's a deadly mistake hitter and he wont get many if he keeps swinging at garbage.
  20. Gonzalez got named to MLB pipeline prospect of the week .429/.520/.905, 6 G, 21 AB, 4 R, 9 H ,1 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 4 BB, 2 SO so nice to see him hitting again
  21. They really aren't that important. You can't built a team for 24-26 now but you can build a team from the present through 2023. Sustained success is bullshit man. You are believing the smoke they are blowing up your ass. Win a damn World Series . That's the main goal . Have they put the resources into building sustained success ? Nope. Sustained success means you are relying on the farm to consistently produce talent. Do they have 75 high speed cameras throughout the system like the Astros ? Do they have an extra minor league team ? Do they consistently spend all their intl. bonus pool money ? Do they have a thorough analytics dept ? The Sox are still a huge question mark in terms of knowing what to do with young talent and a huge question mark on drafting and development. They have no idea how to approach free agents. Can you imagine the Sox blowing away a free agent pitcher the way the Astro's did Gerrit Cole after they traded for him ? Commit the funds and resources to develop young talent and I might believe you are serious about sustained success . Also if serious about contending why not have your best players prepared and on the field immediately in 2020 ? Why let the 2 of them miss a combined 40 games or so waiting for the correct date to be called up ? Does that sound like a team that wants to win? Isn't the point of spending big this off season to start the contention window next year ? If so why turn around and take your best players purposely out of the lineup ? The info about the Astro's is contained in a book titled The MVP Machine: How Baseball’s New Nonconformists Are Using Data to Build Better Players by The Ringer’s Ben Lindbergh and FiveThirtyEight’s Travis Sawchik. Here is a link to a review of it https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2019/6/12/18661954/astros-lindbergh-sawchik-mvp-machine
  22. Greg is probably right. The average baseball fan watches because they enjoy the sport. Many do not have the time to delve into advanced stats nor the desire. Put a winning product on the field and let the idiots in charge build the team using advanced stats. What we do here arguing endlessly abut stats is just giving our opinions which in the end doesn't improve the product or entertain the average fan. It's the Chicago White Sox and Chicago wants a winner like the fans of any team .
