Winter Meetings Predictions
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No matter how we slice it the Sox are going to add a starting pitcher or 2 and good ones don't come cheap .So the only thing we might be able to figure is a bounce back guy like Pomeranz and a mid rotation type who is older, had recent arm problem or uneven results like Miley, Harvey, Lynn ,Gio, Shoemaker, Santana ,Morton etc. We will lose a draft pick for signing Harper so I don't think we go after Keuchel, Grandal, and Pollock for that reason. I don't think Kikuchi is am option either based on the posting fee whatever it ends up being and his arm problems and the unknown factor of facing MLB hitters. -
I;d be more shocked at the Sox trading their prospects right now than I would be over getting Harper or Machado.

No one likes the reality of sucking. This is the time of year for my head to be in the clouds. Unlike others I don't think the Sox FO is playing a dangerous game with the fans. The reality is when you have the payroll and go after certain guys . missing out on them is part of the process. Would you rather they not go after them at all just so you can't be disappointed ? If it doesn't work out you just continue the rebuild as planned and shoot for the stars again next year. -
I know I made my guess already but I also like the utility types and /or bounce backs guys like Schoop, Wilmer Flores, Derek Dietrich, Marwin Gonzales. All have some pop and versatility. Most can play 3rd or 2nd and some OF. Guys like this can be stop gaps or allow Moncada to switch positions to either 3rd base or CF. If you are not looking for permanent solutions yet you can really mix and match these guys at a lot of positions. However I don't think Flores and Dietrich are the greatest infielders. Dietrich also plays OF as does Marwin Gonzales.

Lots of trades happening. Is this a signal or sign that once again only the top free agents will get good money and the rest fight for scraps ? Is it narrowing the field for Harper/Machado due to teams losing too much control with opt outs giving the player most of the power or filling their needs with creative trades ?
-
Who does everyone think the 1st free agent the Sox will sign ? We know Hahn said the Sox will go outside the organization for pitching so there's a distinct possibility of adding a starter and a reliever through FA. There's also the need for a veteran FA catcher or catcher in general. There's also been HR power lost through losing Davidson and Avi. Of course there is also Harper and Machado. You can even use anyone who was non tendered for this. I will kick it off by saying Nelson Cruz although I think the fastest, easiest signing could be the veteran catcher .

Dodgers have reached out about Jose Abreu
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Abreu traded has been discussed more than a few times this off season. I've mentioned trading him several times because I can see Harper playing 1st. I also mentioned it after the Sox dumped Narvaez , Avi and Davidson as part of improving the defense which Hahn wanted to do. Problem is just cant purge the team of all its HR power too without something done to restore it also. Abreu was 2nd, Davidson 4th and Avi 5th Narvaez 7th on the Sox in HR's. As some have said Abreu really can't go anywhere while pursuing the whales unless there is a corresponding move before or shortly after. Besides this is all highly speculative on the tweeters part, pretty much the same as me saying it. -
So would I . I was just saying he could do anything since he's a FA, its all possible.
-
That's a lot to add in 2 weeks unless you meant we'll add all that this off season. As much as I think they add this year next year is a better starting pitcher market and they probably shouldn't add that much unless they are clearly confident they can get the whale. That's the problem ,wait to add around the whale or try to convince the whale we'll add after he is acquired. I also wouldn't be that confident about moving Yoan to 3rd base since the Sox seem to be stressing defense a bit more now . In my mind I often think they miss out on the whales which could signal the same thing as last year which is add some relievers and enough starting pitching to cover innings which means no one like Corbin or Happ . I guess we will find out if the TV contract influences this year or not . Just like with the whales the Sox have to do some selling on the long term competitive window to the TV people and might come up short in both. I can easily see this ending up another bad year though not as bad as last year. If the winter meeting come and go with minimal Sox activity then the bloom is off the rose.

Maybe you just should have stopped after" I stand corrected". Caulfield didn't say anything else to warrant such disdainful sarcasm. You stated something that was clearly wrong and it was politely pointed out to you. It's ok to accept you were wrong graciously.

Morosi: White Sox interested in "both Machado and Harper"
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Since Nelson Cruz and now Jonathan Schoop are available we can sign them both to go along with Beef on the sign all Machado's good friends team. -
Once the pitchers learned he's an undisciplined hitter they threw him all kinds of junk that he couldn't hit out of the zone. He was kind of like the Avi of 2nd baseman. Hit's well in the zone can't lay off the stuff out of the zone. In that case you really have to have a baseball IQ to survive. Think pitch to pitch, know what the pitchers know even if you have to look at some called strike 3's learn to lay off and make the pitchers throw you strikes. Easier said than done.
-
Right but since his free agent year was 2020 anyone signing him to a 1 year contract still gets just one year.
-
Someone might correct me if I'm wrong but once non tendered you are a FA right now. From this point forward he is working from contract to contract. If he wanted to sign a 5year $10M contract now he could or 1 year. It's all up to him.

Who the heck says Daniel is better? Last quarterback beside McMahon who was this much fun to watch was Bobby Douglas and he couldn't pass at all. Was like a linebacker being QB . He threw the ball so hard receivers couldn't catch it and most of the time was just not very accurate.
