  1. You think Kershaw opts out of the next 2 years of $65 M and goes for a longer term contract at a similar or slightly less AAV ?
  2. Tribe didn't like losing that game yesterday. Got their A team out there for tonight.
  3. Unless there's a trade that means a free agent besides Shields is "likely".
  4. But its been a fairly limited strategy is it not? It's never been done for even half a season unless you can say othewise.
  5. Outside of the big guys who will command larger contracts I'm pretty sure there aren't a hell of a lot of FA pitchers as reliable as Shields is who would settle on a 1 year deal. If you had 20 starts this year pitched 150 innings without an ERA in higher than 5,00 without too bad of an injury history and aren't 35+ years old you're probably going to get 2 years or one year at a higher salary like Happ . You really should check the FA starting pitching market . Siim pickins and lots of competition. If you wait and go cheap say hello to Derek Holland Liriano, Edwin Jackson , Colon, , Marco Estrada or Shields. Maybe you luck out and get Matt Harvey on a 1 year deal where he doesn't get hurt again. Even Lance Lynn or Anibal Sanchez could get 2 years.
  6. Succeeding is very difficult without competent fielders around you. Gio didn't pitch terrible but his line looked terrible because LaMarre ran in on a fly ball that ended up going over his head. Being a successful hitter many times is dependent on a better lineup around you. You can't throw junk to competent hitters who know how to play the game and get away with it like so many get away with it now pitching to a bunch of low OBP, low batting average, high K guys. It's really sad when I can look at Tampa Bays team and front office and think to myself 'how do they keep playing well and having good players ?' Their roster is in constant flux . How is it that St. L can trade a bunch of guys and others step right in and they actually become better ? How the hell did Oakland do what they did this year ?
  7. I don't see it happening now either but good things besides competing can still happen and the Sox need to show some confidence in their abilities to get some flippable assets. Hahn and company need to break their slump on FA's and identifying good young position players.Take some chances , You can't break a slump unless you swing the bat.
  8. I think it's time to take a few chances and getting better tradeable assets . I thought the same thing last year. As you said we have a roster full of turds and the conservative approach will get us a top 5 pick this year. Suppose Eloy comes in and does great. Maybe Gio,Rodon and Lopez get better too . Maybe those young relievers are better than we hope . Maybe Moncada gets much better. Doesn't that also hurt draft status ? Does letting those young guys learn to lose together help anything ? Show them we want to get better . Show them the FO believes in them.
  9. Wow I didn't know Moose was so good that in a half season he could ve propelled us from 3rd pick to 9th pick. That's amazing. No one is thinking we are a player or two away. We are trying to help the rebuild our way just as you are yours. We need more assets. We need better defenders and less DH's. We need more talent in AA/AAA. In other words we need less of what we already have and more of what we don't have.
  10. I didn't know a million guys pitched 200 innings this year. Easy peezy to find one then. But I do agree on the 1st part of what you said they will do ;wait wait cheap
  11. And if you are going to keeping saying things like we don't need any starting or relief pitching because if we do the rebuild is a failure you will end up having years like this one where injuries cloud the whole future of the franchise not just the rebuild, Solely waiting for future pieces is all well and good if no one gets hurt and everyone develops as planned and Fa's we sign to supplement those draft choices end up playing well. Oh wait the current FO has no recent history of developing position players or making good choices on FA's. Your plan is foolproof but the question still remains if we have fools or not running the show.
  12. In your dreams you get the same package for Davidson. You can't trade a DH to the NL so that limits half the teams. Yolmer is what he is, a good bench piece. Nothing that we didn't already know about him. Davidson did improve his stock by taking more walks but he still cant play 3rd base every day and he hasn't exactly shined in his time at 1st. Steele Walker will be lucky to have the same type of AAA season that Philips did this year and you know that considering the attrition rates on draft choices.
  13. Like I said I think he's a good choice . His price is up in the air depending on how he does in the postseason if he even gets any starts. Also don't know if FA prices are still going to be down or not. I think one way or another the direction the Sox take this off season will show us if we keep waiting or hope for more reinforcements than our current roster and future major leaguers will provide.
  14. Yes 2018 was 2017 all over again only with no one who was any good to get more prospects . To top it all off Dunning and Hansen imploded in different ways as did a few others in the system who were high draft choices ( Fulmer, Burger) So we are just supposed to keep waiting without spending any money or signing anyone who might get a return. Wait for the injured to heal. Wait for guys who haven't even reached AA yet. Wait for Moncada , Giolito and others to get better while they burn their service time Wait to see which young relievers can be good even though as relievers that will surely fluctuate from year to year. Wait for Rodon and Abreu to get traded or show they are worth more than they were this year. Wait for all the good free agents to sign with better teams. Were going to wait til 2025 and end up trading Eloy Jimenez and starting another rebuild all while Jerry and his heirs laugh all the way to the bank after selling the Sox and making a huge profit. After all real estate is his business and the Sox are just an asset to be sold at a profit.
  15. I'm sure if that's his final offer from the Sox we might not get him. We'll see what he gets . I just think it'll be $10M/yr . He's a good choice though. Maybe he won't get busted for substance abuse like Castillo did. Hahn still has the magic touch on FA signings so he'd probably end up hurt half the year.
  16. Apparently we have so many good young players on the Sox who need to play that we can't possibly want to add anyone of value even when FA prices were lower than ever last season and might also be this off season. So I've been told. Shoot for the moon add Machado or Harper and hope they sign a stupid deal with no options and surround them with crap. Works for me.
  17. And yet somehow the dumb Milwaukee front office rather have Moustaskas .Go figure .I mean everyone would rather have a complete player than 2 incomplete players. Davidson useless to Milwaukee and Sanchez no power. Moose plays an important position competently and hits for power. I checked bWar and Moose is 2.8 this year same as Yolmer and Davidson is 1.6 and again as a DH/!B/3B is redundant on the Sox and useless to the future . As a light hitting 3rd base option Yolmer is also useless to the Sox but as a utility guy he is not. Those asssesments are the same as last year. They haven't changed at all. Moose OPS+near 110 . Yolmer 90. Maybe if you combined Yolmer and Davidson you get a 3rd baseman as good as Moose but alas you can't do that. Neither one of them traded individually gets you as much as 1 Moustakas would've got you. If you want to rely sole;y on one stat from one source to make an argument go right ahead . You won't ever say you were wrong even though it's clear a minor investment by the Royal a division rival netted them 2 possible future pieces while the Sox dwiddled their thumbs.
  18. You can only go by what any competent GM would've done with an asset that needed to be traded. Your assumption is Hahn is not competent which is more tenuous that what I said. You cannot compare the Frazier , Robertson Kahnle deal to one player like Moustakas, The Sox still owed around $23M for Frazier and Robertson, They got salary relief and minor leaguers and more cash later for Clippard. It was also about more tanking . It was earlier in the rebuild and the Sox were still stockpiling young talent and dumping salary. Rutherford might turn out to be very good. Moose wasn't a salary dump. It would've been one good starting player with a lot of power at 3rd base for the best offer at a time in the rebuild where we need more close to ML ready (AA/AAA ) players than more lower level players. You can't keep bringing up one deadline trade you weren't happy with. Those players were useless to the Sox . The money and players they got were not and half the board would probably disagree on if Hahn really messed up that trade.
  19. This didn't age well. It's called getting runners into position to score rather than risk a DP with Palka and Avi coming up. Turns out it was a great move.
  20. 3 runs in bottom of the 9th gives Sox a walk off victory ! Palka with 2 run single for the W.
  21. I was told over and over it was a bad idea to add Moustaskas the previous off season because he cost a draft pick and Yolmer and others needed a chance to play even though Moose was dirt cheap at the time. So instead KC resigned him traded him at the deadline and they got 2 AAA players (one who hit .300 in AAA and has a great arm and the other came close to a perfect game after a few starts in the majors while the Sox saved $6M and drafted yet another OF with the pick we would have lost. Hell I still get told it was a bad idea.
  22. Is it fair to take out Bauer and replace him with Carrasco ?
  23. Cooper doesn't like cutters does he ? Seems like no one on the Sox throws a cutter.
  24. Wow he rose through the ranks at lightning speed .
  25. He did good but this lineup isn't too fierce that Cleveland threw out there today. But good is good considering they are all ML hitters.
