I can agree with this but don't expect his elbow to hold up for too long.

Official NHL COVID season thread
Yea those losses suck to teams ahead of you in the playoff race. Gus isn't a very good defenseman but he has been the key to the Hawks much improved power play. Hawks need a good defenseman badly. They give up way too many breakaways and odd man rushes.

If Clay Buchholz is your answer for an innings eater then I seriously question your baseball knowledge. How in the hell is Buchholz an innings eater ? Do you even bother to look at his innings pitched the last few years ? 2018 Age 33 98.1 IP His season didn't start till May 20th and ended Sept 13th because of a flexor mass strain, the same area of his arm which brought an end to Buchholz’s 2017 campaign. It ended his season prematurely again, although unlike last time, there was no apparent need for surgery: rest and an injection of platelet-rich plasma to help the healing process was the prescribed treatment . 2017 Age 32 7.1 IP missed nearly the entire 2017 season with the Phillies due to a partial tear in the flexor tendon in his right arm. You do know an innings eater should actually eat innings at the minimum 150 IP per year for at least a few years in a row. He hasn't pitched that many since 2014. His pitching elbow is an injury waiting to happen. How the hell do you think Buchholz is an innings eater ? Now to see the definition of an innings eater go look at Ivan Nova innings pitched stats just so you know for next time.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
My prediction for next year is that John Jay retires because he can't even get a minor league deal and Yonder Alonso gets a minor league deal late in the off season.

Find me an innings eater with upside that we wouldn't have to trade prospects for .

Sox in on Denard Span
Jimenez will play no doubt about that so will Palka, Delmonico is a nobody, You might be the only one who still wants to see Engel. I'm good with him as a defensive replacement, Delmonico AAAA fodder 27 in JULY ,Engel 27 already . I don't consider them kids. Span will play better defense than anyone but Engel. Our pitchers do need someone out there to actually catch the ball when you have Jimenez in LF and Palka in RF for the majority of the year. Yes I'm hoping Jay gets released before the 1st game.

What kids are you speaking of ?

Sox in on Denard Span
I actually do. That's why I called it in the other thread. Jay isn't a CF , he's way too slow. Denard at least still has some wheels. Then Engel could be what he's supposed to be a back up. Then Jay can be shit canned.

The Intro for Bat Out of Hell is just perfect.

This whole saga deserves its own rock opera.

Will Yonder and Jay be gone by midseason?
Yes he was and if the Sox sign someone like Denard Span he'll be gone before opening day.

White Sox All-Washed Up Team
Seaver pitched around 2.5 years with the Sox .Won his 300th game with us and his 1st 2 years were good even though he was 39 and 40. For his 300th he pitched a complete game in Yankees Stadium and the Sox won 4-1 in front of 54,000 fans including Commissioner Peter Ueberroth and Richard Nixon. He pitched out of jams in the 8th and 9th with the Yankee crowd chanting "Seaver Seaver Seaver".With the final out he lept into Carlton Fisk's arms. The 4-1 scored matched his uniform number 41. At 39 he pitched 236.3 innings and at 40 238.2. His record in those years was a combined 31-22 His WHIP's and FIP's were both solid. That was a great game.

Sox signing Ervin Santana (pending physical) to milb deal per WSD
If it happens and that's a big if I'll go with Denard Span.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
So as far as guaranteed money goes what does Harper get ? Would $300M/9 yr. guaranteed plus the $50M in incentives , opt out after 5 years. be an offer that might win ?

As a concession to you ,one of our most kind and our only consistent female poster as far as I know and one of the elder stateswoman of the board. I'd like a mod to change the title to ;Harper: It Ain't Over till It's Over.

Perspective
But they are all older than Machado and Harper so the length of contract shouldn't be as long . The AAV's will probably be roughly the same ,around $30ish M. At those AAV's its possible to score 3-4 guys since payroll commitments for 2020 are about $12.5M if they buy out Castillo and Jones. If they trade Herrera it's down to $4M for Anderson in 2020.

Arenado, Anthony Rendon, Gerrit Cole,Marcell Ozuna ,Xander Bogaerts, Madison Bumgarner, Chris Sale.

Fernando Tatis Jr. trade burns more than the loss in the Machado sweeps
In doing my research on SD Int'l signings I was looking at the 2015 list of Top 30 Int'l prospects. That was a pretty good group. Vlad Jr. was #7 signed for $3.9M, Juan Soto #25 signed for $1.5 M and Tatis #30 signed for 700K

Why Preller >>> Hahn
My main point was it was a loaded question to make his point stronger and those saying Preller was a good judge on int'l talent look bad .The small amount of research I did was to just illustrate the point that not enough time has passed for any GM to have any proven talent from August 2014 to present. I think that's only 4 years of int'l signings from 2015 to 2018.
