Joc Pederson: ???
Fine everybody is going to make me look up the sprint speeds instead of doing it themselves I see. Why is it only me who provides the data instead of just opinions.

Joc Pederson: ???
Ha no statcast then.
-
Joc Pederson: ???
Ha damn it . Fuck me early dementia must be settling in.
-
Joc Pederson: ???
Maybe why don't you look it up. I'd say he's at least 1,5 feet/sec faster than Pederson. That's significantly faster to me.

Joc Pederson: ???
How is it flawed ? The best CF'er are usually the fastest ones. Are there exceptions ? Yes not sure how fast Jim Edmundson was. If you want to support how I am flawed by offering example of good defensive Cfers who run as slow as Pederson be my guess. I love a good baseball arguments but just saying I am flawed is not sufficient data. Byron , Buxton, Engel ,Harrison Bader, Trout , Kiermaier all much fastest than Pederson.

I think Palka would be fine to get the AB's against righties . Problem is no matter how we slice it we are still going to need Engel for his defense . Now if Yolmer can play OF maybe that works. Outfield defense still going to be a problem without someone like Engel.

Yes I did . My error ,routine groundball and I booted it. Mea culpa.

My mistake I thought I quoted Rabbit not you. But please, people make mistakes no way to be rude.
-
Joc Pederson: ???
My mistake I thought I was quoting Rabbit saying Pederson is a perfectly fine CF.

Sprint speeds. Why do you feel the need to ask me in such an impolite way ?
-
Joc Pederson: ???
Frankly I'd rather have Engel in CF more than Jay . Not that its much better but it is better. Jay is pretty slow now and getting slower every year.
-
Joc Pederson: ???
Please let's get real. No one who is a full 1 sec, slow than the league average speed of 27ft/sec should be playing CF on a regular basis.. If you think how they calculate sprint speeds is wonky then its wonky for everyone. That's not league average for OF's that's league average for everyone including all your slowest of the slow catchers and infielders. Abreu , Delmoinco, Palka and even Kevan Smith are faster than Pederson. Now we're going to argue about the validity of Statcast ?

Joc Pederson: ???
Nothing makes up for speed out there and 26.0 is pretty slow, 27 ft. /sec is league average. Nothing makes up for speed but there's also route to the ball and like BS13 said getting a good jump but slow is slow .The differ3nce between AVi and Jay is 3 feet per sec. 4 ft/sec between Jay and Engel. If a ball is hit in the gap and it takes you 3-4 seconds to get there thats 12-16 ft you can't cover that Ehegl could. A good route and getting a good jump/read can't make up for that. Of course a good read does make a lot of difference sometimes especially in CF where a bad read where you freeze or start on balls hit directly at you. I don't know enough about Jays or Pederson reads or routes to the ball but their speed alone would be costly and certainly nowhere near ideal.

It might have legs but Joc does not. For anyone thinking Joc would play CF regularly they should probably think again. According to Statcast Sprint speeds Joc clocks in at 26.3 ft/sec. . That is the same speed as Manny Machado and .01 higher than Matt Kemp. For comparisons Engle 30.1. Moncada 28.8, Tim Anderson 28.7 . Here's the real surprise, Avi at 29.0. How many wanted to see Avi in CF ? John Jay is even slower now than Pederson at 26.0 ft/second. These stats are from 2018. 2017 Jay was 26.4 so he lost .40 from 2017 to 2018 2017 Pederson was 26.5 so he lost .20 from last year. Engle is as fast as Billy Hamilton. Only Byron Buxton, Roman Quinn and Magneuris Sierra are slightly faster than Engel. They all play CF.

The Future of First Base
It's funny hearing knocks on Sheets and Rutherford when those 2 guys probably have the most well rounded approach at the plate. Rutherford and Sheets made great progress going from A to A+, AA will be a challenge for more than just Rutherford. It's where you really start to separate the men from the boys.

Eloy - MLB Network Top 10 RF
Jimenez isn't in the fans top 10 which isn't surprising. Also noticed they made a list for the fans to vote on the top CF with 26 names and Pederson wasn't even listed when a guy like Jarrod Dyson was.

Shameless grandstanding ! HAHA you will get nothing from me. I like the originality though and shall think of you in some way when it is repeated by others.

The White Sox Whaling One Stop Super Thread
Maybe this thread should be unpinned since Mr. Sir resigned his duties keeping this updated and nothing has been added for over a week.

The Dodgers have to have more up their sleeve than trading Pederson. The question I don't see anyone asking is is what are the Dodgers needs to make them a World Series winner? Once we can answer that question we will know a lot more. To me one big answer to that question is Harper not an oft injured guy like Pollock. If that's the Dodgers endgame then signing Manny becomes even more important .
-
Joc Pederson: ???
I'd give it a slight possibility too (only for 2020) but I need more than a slight chance to actually think trading for Pederson is a good idea. If somehow ABreu, Moncada, Anderson, Castillo ,Colome, Herrera , Fry, Covey ,Giolito, Lopez,Alonso , Palka, Rodon and Nova all perform above expectations I will happily admit that we should've acquired Joc. But if that happens we still have the trade deadline. Those are 14 names that probably produced as much WAR as the top 4 guys from Houston, Yankees and Red Sox. I know we can also add Eloy and possibly Machado , but we still cannot realistically discuss "competing" until we actually have him.
-
Joc Pederson: ???
I know that's an exaggeration and it also depends on the definition of the word compete. So I humbly request when anyone wants to say compete or competitve please define it. Is that make the playoffs compete ? Slightly below .500 , .500, or slightly above .500 compete ? Didn't we all used to think that around .500 was the worst place to be ? I would have to agree with the no starting pitching assessment. I will charitably say we have 2 #3's ( Lopez, Rodon) a #4 in Nova and the rest are #5's. Debatable I know but I think I'm being more than fair.
-
Joc Pederson: ???
No the same theory doesn't apply to guys we already have because we aren't giving anything up for them. I said the same things as you about all the guys coming up and magically competing but that was when I was arguing for signing JD Martinez last year to a long term contract or signing Moustaskas as trade bait. In 2 years Pederson will be gone. as will Alonso, Jay . Colome, Hererra , Abreu, Castillo. McCann, Leury Garcia. If they are not here long term or for competing years their only value is in trades or being a better team in years we don't make the playoffs. My arguments in the past were acquiring FA's agents to either trade or keep but wouldn't cost us anything but money for non contention years. Now all of a sudden everyone thinks we can compete which I think means make the playoffs when that is very high unlikely, at least this year, with an outside chance at next year if a whale pitcher can be bought and if the young starting pitchers can be good right away That in itself is a BIG if.
-
Joc Pederson: ???
How is he valuable to the Sox ? Does he put them over the hump in either year ? Do you you think he can be traded for more than the Sox would give up for him ? Would he help us get a better draft choice in years we won't make the playoffs ? If the answer to those questions is NO then why do we need him ?
-
Joc Pederson: ???
Think of the ol' Hahn 3 way.
-
Joc Pederson: ???
But at least we have more minor league seasons and 6 years of control to find out. What was the sense of a rebuild and getting a bunch of prospects only to trade them before we even have any idea how good they are and still not going to compete soon ? Let's use some common sense . Get Manny let Kopech, Cease , Dunning,Robert Madrigal, Collins and basically all the others in the top 30 get another year or 2 before we start trading them. We'll have a much better idea of what we need then.
