Machado keeps saying he is a SS for now and the future. Pretty selfish when you were gold glove caliber at 3b yet only so so at SS. Team first Machado .
-
Without a great arm at 3rd base it really limits your ability to play back to cut off balls down the line where you see the guys with cannons go into foul territory or dive down the line then gun it to 1st for the out. The really good ones can do that.
-
It's also pretty odd ( or maybe it's not considering the Dodgers have more resource so probably a better scouting/development staff) that they end up finding guys like Muncy and last year Taylor while the Sox while in a rebuild don't have nearly the "luck" the Dodgers do finding ballplayers who just seem to come out of nowhere.

I remember because I quoted some stats on Avi from Merkin about since he got off the DL and was healthy and I'm pretty sure it was Greg who responded and said but he is not healthy and me thinking hmmm pretty odd to get factual info from Greg. Think it was in a game thread.
-
It was either greg or El Rockin
-
Well you do have to run/sprint quite a bit when playing the OF so yeah DHing would provide relief since less running/sprinting = better for hammy.

You mean there is an actual reason not to hustle 100% of the time ? Don't you know that hustle is the calling card of Mr. Renteria and nothing is as important especially the health of 2 guys who you might want to trade ? Does anyone in Sox management ever think or possibly speak to our manager about such things ?

I'd love to see Eddy Alvarez.

Irrational fondness of a player who completely sucks
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Even when he was healthy it's not like he got many starts in CF only 12 while Engel probably had that many in March and early April coming off his magical spring. Anywho it's not like it a choice between Mays and Trout, -

I just remember thinking seriously so many prefer Engel over Leury ? But Engel got the starts from Sox management and continues to get them over Leury so I am still mystified. -

I think the majority preferred Engel over Leury and when that was discussed a lot of nice comments about Engel came out so wasn't just one person. Unfortunately i have no recollection if it was its own thread or what. I would imagine its somewhere in March. -
First thing I looked for this morning was an Avi placed on the DL thread, Wasn't there but now it is. I sure hope its not the go on the 10 day DL that turns into 60 days again. KInda blows that when he is showing the most power he ever has in a very short period of time that he reinjures the hammy. We can't have nice things.

Hypothetical: Would you trade Moncada for Arenado?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Buehrlesque's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sorry just woke up and read it twice to try to get my cloudy mind to understand what you were saying. So it your scenario its no matter who trades for him they will be able to extend him so the Sox have to offer the best package for him. I just have issues with trade and extend propositions for impending superstar free agents. It just doesn't happen so, to me, it's just not a realistic scenario. -

CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Buehrlesque's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No way. I despise any trade where you give up a cost controlled potential superstar just for a highly unlikely chance of extending a guy. It's the one thing I repeatedly see on here that makes little sense. It didn't work for Samardzija. It was repeatedly talked about for Machado and you'd think we all know how unlikely that is but continue to see it time and time again as if the Sox are some kind of great negotiators who can somehow convince an impending free agent not to see what the open market has to offer. Give me a break. -
He was drafted hurt right ?

Baseball in Trouble per USA Today
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to greg775's topic in The Diamond Club
I would be entirely against banning the shifts. Maybe it was a poor choice of words but banning or limited the shift wouldn't put more balls in play it would just mean that the balls in play would result in more hits. If anything the shifts should theoretically get more balls in play when and if hitters make adjustments . The game has always been a game of adjustments. The best hitters spray the ball everywhere . The most predictable hitters get shifts. Why punish the defense for playing where the ball predictably will go ? Start hitting where they ain't , If there are huge gaps on the field than learn to hit the balls there. How would you ban shifts anyway? Defenses have always adjusted to situations ,Double play depth means playing a bit farther back and shading up the middle. Infield in when you want to cut down a runner scoring from third. Outfields in closer when a sac fly will win a game while at the same time increasing the ability to catch a game winning single or a blooper. Outfielders have also always shaded in one direction or another. If a second baseman is playing in shallow right field and the SS right by 2nd base because some lumbering slow guy who only pulls the ball is up more power to them . -
Makes you wonder if that HBP was some kind of "welcome to the AZL". Would like to think that it wasn't but you never know. The last thing the Sox need is to have more top minor leaguers hurt and according to the tweets that followed Steele is hurt.

Jose Abreu voted in as Starting AL All-Star 1Bman
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I can't find it in my heart to say one bad word about Jose Abreu. Congrats to him and may you break out of your slump with a wrath so furious that it silences all critics. -
KW on the state of the rebuild
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just don't consider signing guys who aren't in the contention window a waste of money. You do know guys can be traded right ? You need good players to get good players and when is a better time to spend when your payroll is low ? If we had Moose or JD how would they look as trade bait right about now ? Maybe later you'd like the Sox to trade guys who have the talent of a Jimenez or Cease or a Torres like the Cubs did ? The Sox need a ton of talent we will always be wasting some of the good young talents cheap years as we go. -
KW on the state of the rebuild
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My whole point was just because you suck doesnt mean you cant have good players on the roster You can't fill every hole at once. Look at the Sox now. Hitting , bad, defense , bad. starting pitching , bad, bullpen has actually been a bright spot but about to get bad unless some of the fill in do better. How far away are most of your minor league players? 1-2 yrs or more . You wanted to be much better next year . How is that exactly going to happen ? Won't anyone they get still be a waste of money on a bad team ? You talk about certain positions being full already ? Full of what ? A bunch of question marks . Not a single guy we can honestly call an All Star . We are so far away from winning the division its frightening and even father away from winning a World Series. We need a roster full of good players and we don't even have one. Just wave the magic wand and it'll all be fine in 2019 oops 2020 oops 2021 oops 2022. -
2018 White Sox catch-all thread
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Since returning to action from the disabled list on June 22, Garcia leads the Majors with the highest hard-hit rate per Statcast™. Garcia's percentage checks in at 63.4 for balls hit with an exit velocity of 95+ mph, leading Nick Markakis (60.5), Manny Machado (60) and Hunter Renfroe (60). Garcia has erased a slow start with a .339 average, 1.123 OPS, six home runs (now 7*) and nine (now 11*) RBIs upon getting healthy. From Merkin on whitesox.com * added by me -
