  1. Don't get your hopes up for wither of those things. I'll guess the Sox quest for a season high 5 game win streak ends tonight. If not there is some serious cosmic mojo happening .
  2. I could see him starting 2019 in AAA. His last 6 starts in AA were ridiculously good., like an 0,29 ERA and he did better in AA than he did in A+ . But also more innings at A+ so I could see him returning to AA also. A 2020 call up seems about right barring any unforeseen dramas
  3. Who is who in that pic ?
  4. I've seen a few posts that suggest Cease being up next year either mid season or even earlier. The chances of that happening arel extremely slim. 2017 he pitched around 94 ininnings. 2018 124 innings before they shut him down. Cease also had Tommy John surgery after he was drafted, Here's a link to a Q an A with Dylan talking about how being brought along slowly has helped him and how much he improved as a pitcher following the surgery from March of 2017. https://www.mlb.com/news/cubs-prospect-dylan-cease-on-tommy-john/c-219438510 Handling him with care is what's worked so far. He definitely won't be a guy they rush.
  5. Just so its not confusing that team was projected to have a 37 WAR. When I 1st read it I thought you meant 37 wins in a 162 game schedule until I read the article.
  6. The whole free agent situation will be very interesting. I'm all for going after the big fishes . The most interesting position players that may fit the Sox needs in my opinion are Eduardo Escobar, Michael Brantley, Marwin Gonzales, Mike Moustakas, AJ Pollock ,Adam Jones, Andrew McCutchen and Josh Donaldson.
  7. True and they had won 5 in a row and 15 of 20 so they were hotter than the Sox coming in and were at home. Those games at GR Covey Lopez and Gio started, Covey and Gio pitched bad . Lopez had a really good game .it was good seeing both Kopech and Rodon pitch effectively without their best stuff.
  8. I recall Benetti saying that during the telecast . That tweet was at 8:56 last night. So I wonder who didn't give credit to the other. Or maybe they both got that from another source.
  9. The recent Eloy hot streak coincides exactly with the day Kopech was called up . This from CSN Chicago : The White Sox top prospect is hitting a staggering .621 (18/29) with two doubles, a triple, five RBIs and six runs during that stretch. He has a 1.392 OPS during the hitting streak
  10. Ad from southsidesox.com on Carlos Rodon He’s now gone nine straight games of at least six innings, three runs or less and five hits or less, which is the longest such White Sox streak dating back to at least 1908. Also for anyone who missed the broadcast of the game SSS got this from WGN sports who got it from statcast. Heading into the game, hitters had achieved “barrels” (Statcast) against Carlos Rodón just 4.2% of the time, the best mark in the majors.
  11. And from Sports Mockery article on Dylan Cease: Titled Don Cooper Thinks Dylan Cease Might Be Better Than Michel Kopech : “Cease started the season in High-A Winston Salem and moved up to double-A on June 21 after logging a 9-2 record with a 2.89 ERA. But Cease served up better marks at double-A with a 1.72 ERA and four strikeouts shy of matching his high-A total in three fewer starts. Southern League lineups were confounded by Cease and only batted .168 against him. And over his final six starts Cease posted a 0.29 ERA fanning 48 batters in 30 2/3 innings.” https://sportsmockery.com/2018/08/don-cooper-thinks-dylan-cease-better-than-michael-kopech/
  12. And from The Loop Sports on Adam Engel Over his last 30 games, the Gold Glove candidate has batted his way to an impressive .286 average, including a .332 average over his last 15 games. Also according to the stats @whitesox.com since the all star break Engel is hitting .296 BA .310 OBP .469 SLG .779 OPS in 98 AB
  13. And from CSN Chicago, on Eloy Jimenez since Kopech was called up ,a stretch of 7 games The White Sox top prospect is hitting a staggering .621 (18/29) with two doubles, a triple, five RBIs and six runs during that stretch. He has a 1.392 OPS during the hitting streak
  14. So you're telling me that he cannot learn, improve and analyze from when he's called up in April during the season and can only do it in the off season ? That's not realistic at all .Players constantly adjust during the season. Pitchers adjust to them and they adjust back. What's the sense of having a hitting coach during the season if players can only adjust, improve and analyze in the off season ? What's the sense of watching film on the pitchers he will be facing during the season ? What's the sense of going to hitters meetings and discussing how to approach certain pitchers ? While you think the Sox will keep winning this year because of the pitching. I think there's a much better chance that Eloy end up next year as the best hitter on the Sox and missing 2 months of at bats will not hurt him in the slightest.
  15. It isn't so bad. I know you didn't want Madrigal from the beginning but it's time to just relax and just hope he turns out to be a good hitter. Makes no sense to get all worked up about a kid that's been banged up and hardly had any time to sit back and savor what he and his team accomplished in college.Guys like Moncada, Giolito and Lopez gained valuable experience and built up innings. Its not sexy and the results are mixed but its invaluable. They may have found a future DH with Palka with the most LH power since Adam Dunn left. He's a rookie , an older rookie, but he could get better. Rodon has come back from injury very strong. Kopech's looked good in his small sample. There are good things happening , The rotation is starting to come together and Eloy showed he is the besss and in baseball time he is only 2 months from being a fixture in the lineup. Actual time we still have the off season which hopefully provides us with a few surprises.
  16. Sort of helpful the Yankees were missing Judge, Sanchez and Gregorius.
  17. I don't see how you figure he would be a year behind. If he come up now he plays a little more than a month. When he comes up next April it equals around 2 months total. 1 month this year + 1 month next year. That is not a year. I'm pretty sure that will not hurt him. It would suck if the Sox fell to around 10th in the draft after being 3rd practically all year. It's totally possible we pass the Tigers , Padres and Marlins but playing well enough to drop to 10th rather than 6 or 7 th would be a disaster. Remember the Astro's had the number 1 pick 2 years in a row . The higher you pick the better the chance of getting impact talent. 2017 we had pick 11, 2018 was 4th. It makes no sense whatsoever to cut our own throats in the draft. It's really great we can see some hope for the future now that Kopech s here. Remember I'm the one that started this thread but let's not get too carried away. Too many win's now are detrimental and useless to a season that was long ago lost.
  18. I think service time has to be seriously considered when you are still maybe another year from a shot at the playoffs. That being said I thought both Kopech and Eloy deserved a call up They both were just doing so well. Eloy has had a tremendous year and bringing him up with the roll the Sox are on needlessly would hurt draft status and burn service time. That's a double whammy that would be hard to take.
  19. A lot without Abreu too. This is the kind of game I envisioned the White Sox becoming . If Robert makes it This team could be the reincarnation of the Go Go Sox. Imagine if the Engel "tease " becomes more than a tease.. Pitching speed now just need better defense and some OBP guys and we'll be where we can win a lot of games.
  20. The ESPN broadcast here in california is way behind the actual game, The Yankes have Torryes at bat in the bottom of the fifth,.
  21. I agree. Using phrases "like some of us saw this coming" and " I hope he turns things around"just make a mockery of just how beat up the kid is now,the long emotional ride of winning the college world series and the incredibly small sample size after all those other things . I don't even know what it was he saw coming. Give him a year of full season ball and some time to take a breather for heavens sake before you rip the guy to shreds.
  22. Walker 4 for his last 8 with 2 HR's and 7 RBI.
  23. I hope so . I'd much rather call him "The Way" rather than "The Darkness."
