  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 29, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Bumped, because he AGAIN called for a bunt with 2 strikes... this has to stop. I can understand bunting to stay out of a DP but the situation was man on 2nd and no outs right ?Engle was up and I'd let him hit. You can tell him try to hit it to the right side or let him swing away. A bunt or more specifically a failed bunt with 2 strikes does not instill confidence in a young player trying to get a feel for ML pitching. Give him a shot at driving the run home especially when the pitcher had already given up a triple and double. When you get 2 extra base hits in a row the pitcher is feeling the pressure. Don't let him off the hook so easily.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) I don't think he is a DFA player. But if you give me Kyle Schwarber for him, I would take it in a nanosecond. Considering the years both are having that's really sticking to your guns. Schwarber hasn't done anything all that impressive in the majors besides having a discerning eye. The World series is a minuscule sample size that shouldn't even be counted. Can't blame you for having no faith at all in Avi given the much bigger sample size of sucking but Avi is only 1.5 years older than Schwarber has a better arm is faster, and a better fielder. I really don't see many positives on Schwarbers side yet. If you are basing your opinion on how bad Avi has been I still don't think Schwarber is capable of playing anywhere but perhaps 1st base in the future. He doesn't have nearly enough speed to ever be considered barely average in the OF even if he ran terrific routes.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2017 -> 06:40 AM) For the record, I would still trade drive Avi to Wrigley. I am not about to let a two month sample size change that. I might understand your stance if Avi was, let's say, hitting .270 with half the HR's and RBI's and being really bad in the OF but his OPS+ is 156 which is really really good and his current bWAR is 2.2. I think it is very difficult to improve that dramatically over a 2 month period. His numbers will drop , it's inevitable ,but as far as being a DFA type player , he is way past that.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 29, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) Is there any team that could use Sanchez? It sucks he doesn't really profile as a SS or 3B to be a reserve. He may not profile at those positions full time but he can play a competent 3rd or SS and the Sox even put him in RF the other day. Leury and Sanchez are respectively 2nd and 4th on the Sox in bWar (baseball ref right ? ) with 1.4 and 1.2 . Those numbers reflect both offensive and defensive value . They are the kind of players ( depth players) who the Sox have been lacking when trying to compete. There is no reason to trade either because the more of these young valuable players you have the better the odds that there will be continued value going forward. For instance if Sanchez and Leury can be 2+ WAR going forward and the Sox want to maximize value then Moncada should already be getting reps in the OF . Personally I see no reason for the Sox to settle for a middle infielder who's glove may end up lacking or not as good as Sanchez' especially with the current lack of depth in the OF. Davidson is currently 7th among Sox position players in bWAR with .5 . People were worried when his BA plummeting down to .220 but he's turned it around and got it back near .270. Again he has been pretty valuable considering he's been playing a lot of DH and is over 50 plate appearances behind team leaders. The same can be said of Sanchez who was behind Saladino to start the year. Davidson also has the 3rd highest team OPS+ at 137 which is very good.
  5. Congrats to TD. He will always remember it.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ May 25, 2017 -> 03:50 PM) Danish is announced as the game 2 starter, Pelfrey game 1. I believe that means Danish is replacing Covey after he goes on the DL, and the 26th man is somebody else. We might consider Danish,Holmberg and Infante as tanking pitchers , guys who are not among the elite prospects the Sox want to keep down on the farm until the rebuild hits full tilt mode. Probably could add May and Willy Garcia to that list although Willy might have some decent upside.
  7. QUOTE (heirdog @ May 25, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) The brilliance of Dick Allen's post is the final line "Abu Dhabi do" which does not require the yabba dabba. If that's how he meant it or was it just coincidence ? He probably meant it that way. The similarity of Abu Dhabi do to yabba dabba do might be lost of some people. like me and I watched a lot of Flintstones but the younger crowd might miss that.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 25, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) Yes. Name cereals....Caulfield: Captain Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, Rice Krispies, Fruity Pepples, pepples reminds me of the Flintstones, which brings me to the question do you know the difference between people in Dubai and people in Abu Dhabi? People in Dubai don't like the Flintstones. People in Abu Dhabi do. I think you mean people in Abu Dhabi yabba dabba do !
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 22, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Well that was unexpected. Luis Robber? Oh man totally ruined my joke. I was going to say if he flops call him Robber for getting that 25+M
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 20, 2017 -> 09:48 PM) Looking at just average. Your better than that Tmar. You're not your. You're better than that SoxAce .
  11. QUOTE (spiderman @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:02 PM) I heard on another site that Keith Law wouldn't have him in the Top 100. But he's the best hitter on the planet !
  12. I've been wanting to make this thread for a week . After tonight's game where he went 4/5 with 2 HR's and 2 doubles to just about every part of field I had to do it. Still a while to go before the All Star game so I will understand if his career to this point or seeing if he cools off makes anyone hesitate. But, hey, what the heck he's been a revelation so far and no matter how anyone feels about him , you have to admit he has been a joy to watch. All Star balloting is open so vote early and vote often. Ballot here https://www.mlb.com/all-star/ballot?tcid=AS...lb_shortcontent Please pin this if you think it worthy.
  13. The good vibes from the Robert signing carried over to the game. Pelfrey actually pitched good going 6 inning, 4 hits, 0 walks and 3 K's. Avi 4/5 with 2 HR and 2 doubles and a career high 6 RBI, Abreu had a HR and a double Every hitter had 2 hits except Willy Garcia who had one but it was his 1st career HR and it was crushed. Sanchez extended his hitting streak to 11 games and Frazier got his BA up to an even .200. Davidson had a HR and a single. 16 runs 19 hits total.
  14. Lost in all the hitting is Pelfrey pitching good or Seattle being totally demoralized.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ May 20, 2017 -> 09:12 PM) W Garcia may not turn up as a player but every time he steps in the box I feel like he will crush the ball. Physically imposing as hell. Every time I see him I think of Big Frank. He's just about the same size to my eyes.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 20, 2017 -> 08:34 PM) Me too. Eminor should be joining us soon as well... Not sure Eminor will ever join the ranks . He'll need a lot bigger sample size. We've had some intense debates about Avi in the past.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ May 20, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) Who is this Avi Garcia guy? He isn't who we thought he was. But by we I mean all of you . I am on record as supporting him almost all the time.
  18. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 20, 2017 -> 07:27 PM) Is anyone else sick of Hawk's old man bulls***? Of course but not me.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 20, 2017 -> 07:25 PM) So are we buying in yet? I've been one of Avi's biggest detractors. I think I am sold. With all the positives vibes from the Robert signing I think it's about time we pinned an Avi for All-Star game thread.
