  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) The Houston #Astros were involved in talks for Quintana, but never came close to offering the package the #Cubs offered to the #Whitesox --Nightengale SO glad to be done pining for the Astros to like what we had. Hope they fail now (even though i like so much of what theyve done) My thoughts exactly . I was saying F the Stros since it became apparent they undervalued Q.
  2. beautox good call on June 22 in other Q thread . " Cubs - Jimenez + Cease + Albertos" . Pretty damn close !
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) It also doesn't include L. Robert Actually it does since he was recently ranked #45.
  4. Bittersweet is a word that perfectly describes losing Jose Quintana. Bless you Q .
  5. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) Was the Milwaukee stuff just board speculation? I doubt it. Brewers were doing due diligence on Q and Cubs offer was probably to compete with that.
  6. Maybe future trades can get a prospect named Desist or Fire to go along with Cease
  7. Now the answer is officially a resounding YES !!!!!!!
  8. Ok 3rd arrempt at posting. Soxtalk going wild and long ago I said Cubs were perfect
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 09:09 PM) Pretty sure the first BA mock draft had Sox taking Happ, and IIRC had Sox taking Judge and Trout also I can't resist commenting . Maybe BA should be doing our 1st round drafting
  10. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:55 AM) I hope he doesn't rule it out. I understand there is a rivalry between sox and cubs fans and ut would hurt uf quintana is in a WS Parade but the cubs are not really a rival of the Sox (different league and division) and I could not care less if the cubs win 5 more championships if it means the sox win one. I'm not saying they should deal with the cubs but they should at least listen to offers and if the cubs make the best offer they should take it. Cubs really need a starter and I think they would be interested in quintana. He's said on numerous occasions he would trade with any team. His priority is making the Sox better.
  11. Well between the invisible Rosenthal tweet and the bootyhole and wetbutt I'm convinced Q and in headed to the Cubs. Imagine this in green.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 05:29 PM) Earlier in this thread the Brewers were considered the favorites to get Q.If that is the case seems to me it makes sense to get the Cubs involved. Sox either strengthen one or the other and make sure are fully aware that if one team drops out the other is going to get him.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 06:05 PM) This derby has been awesome so far. Judge 507 and 513 ft ! Superhuman !
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 09:02 AM) I see some of those but I see more the other way. I kinda just roll my eyes anytime he is brought up at this point. Fernando Tatis
  15. QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 04:04 AM) Seems like the 2nd wildcard is gumming up the works, so to speak. Right now, only three AL teams are definitely selling, and most of the NL teams that are in sell mode don't have much to trade. I'll say first major trade is Ryan Madson to the Red Sox. Dombrowski is aggressive and they could use a set-up man for Kimbrel. Sean Doolittle of the A's would be a good get.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 09:14 PM) He'll probably hit 3 HR's his 1st week up. This just in, Frazier goes deep for 3rd time in 1st 7 games. Nailed it.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 07:55 AM) Is age bashing really necessary ? Plenty of young guys are easily irritable and cranky on here. It's not unique to the old.
  18. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) Moncada Kopech Robert are all definitely in the Top 100 I could see Giolito, Lopez and Collins still being firmly in the Top 100. Fulmer probably falling out. Hansen should be in. Dunning could be knocking on the door. Letimin !
  19. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 05:47 AM) Now I remember. Tax savings. Robert signs a deal for $26 Million, Sox get another similar bill for some tax, and now the White Sox biggest concern is Robert's tax return. This tax saving concept sucked from day one. Here is what you do: 1. Pay the tax owed. 2. Move to the US. So, instead, this mega - wealthy 19 year old is hanging around the DR with money coming out of his pockets, dealing with whomever, playing once a week on some sand lot. He predictably hurts himself and goes to the local witch doctor for medical attention. He should be over here getting big league instruction, playing as often as possible, and getting better as quickly as possible. But No. We need to save taxes. What do we do to save taxes in 2018? Keep him in the DR again? Isn't this what crazy people do? Same thing over and over. What did Red Sox do when they signed Moncada to similar deal two years ago? They moved him the the US, put him on the Low A roster, and played him. Tax savings. $26 Mill is not enough. We have to save his taxes, too. He was also getting HBP a lot. I know those are young wild arms there but it's possible Robert is getting some resentment of his contract or going through some macho initiation.
  20. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 05:44 PM) Ok, Fulmer sucks, yes, but where is Robert???? He's hurt. Strained menicus in his left knee. Won't play for at least a week more.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 07:06 AM) I've tried to put someone on "ignore" before. You still see that the person posts so you can't really fully ignore them. I read his posts and everyone elses for that matter and for the most part move on. It's easy not to say anything to him because I know he will get his responses without me. To get attention you must be somewhat annoying and open to criticism .That's why Caulfield is probably the 2nd most notorious member of Soxtalk. Also a catchy member name helps.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 04:36 AM) How about when the Astros recently traded Josh Fields for Yordan Alvarez? There are plenty of examples in baseball history of teams turning modest assets into gold by targeting raw, low level prospects with big ceilings. The idea of holding onto a free agent to be because somehow you don't think the return will be worth it is beyond ridiculous. In fact, it comes across as trolling as it defies all logic and common sense. And Greg isn't Rick Morrissey, he's Skip Bayless. Say something stupid, ignore all (well argued) counterpoints, rinse & repeat. Whether he's a true troll or not is up for debate (I have my suspicions), but at a bare minimum he is purposely being obtuse & outlandish to get attention. I mean how many times can we sit here and allow him to say "alleged rebuild" when there is zero doubt we are rebuilding. Honestly, I love this website and the community of posters, but Greg is starting to make posting here a challenge. And sure, I could block him, but his presence will live on through the numerous responses he gets a day. I'm just really tired of having to sift through his bulls*** to get to the quality discussion & debate. It's really unfortunate that one indivual poster can have this much of an impact on the board and nothing can be done about it. Greg may be smarter than you all think or the best troll ever. It seems the only reason most people won't put him on ignore is because the temptation to respond to his posts is too great. It makes you feel smarter ( not you per se, all those who do respond to him). He is the most responded to and notorious member of Soxtalk. You can make brilliant observations and outstanding analysis but purposely being "off" gets you far more attention and responses.
  23. Saladino 2 for 3 , Delmonico with 12th HR and Liriano with 2 HR's his 6th and 7th. Liriano has had a decent 11 game stretch of hitting. I'd love to see him put together a good 2nd half and come back from those terrible facial fractures and concussion from being HBP. Liriano also threw a runner out at 3rd.
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 08:50 AM) First off, Melky is not a valuable player. I'm a huge fan of the guy's personality, but he doesn't the play the field at an acceptable level anymore. And it's only going to get worse as he ages. Second, we have multiple in-house replacements for both guys ready to go. Once Moncada is called up, we can choose from Davidson, Sanchez, & Delmoncio at 3B. For LF we can choose from Engel (or Leury), Willy, & Demonico. Why on earth would you want to block these guys with aging veterans? Also Tilson if all the kings horses and all the kings men can put him back together again.
