  1. 9th inning rallies with walk off are fun.
  2. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) what happened i started playing video games Oh you think you deserve an explanation after ditching the Sox to play video games ?
  3. Can the Sox win without getting a hit ?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) With the extension, the organization is 100% certain what it is committed to. Without the extension they would not have any certainty at all. Sounds kind of strange considering Anderson was a rookie last year and that means 6 years of certainty does it not ?
  5. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 08:13 PM) Davidson missed a couple fastballs down Broadway. With Davidson and Avi combined about 1 for last 37 it's been an offensive struggle this home stand.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 08:42 AM) Full Avi article CSN Chicago‏Verified account @CSNChicago 1h1 hour ago "You should be embarrassed you're batting seventh in winter league." http://bit.ly/2sbkVHh He's been slumping lately. Looks like he's trying to pull everything. Not barreling up much. Left a ton of guys on base yesterday. Didn't even look good against lefties. Was begging for him to go up the middle but kept hitting weak grounders to the left side. Avi doesn't hit Sox lose thus the recent lousy homestand.
  7. Gave it a 5 . Hahn has been notoriously bad making trades at the deadline and we'll see how it goes this year but I think what many are expecting isn't going to happen.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) Pretty bad numbers last night, but they say he's ready. Next start will probably be at home next week. Saw him in the dugout during Sundays game but no announcement yet he's back on the Sox ?
  9. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Anyone else worried about the defensive unit? Seems Hawks were struggling in that department last year and letting Hammer go we got thinner now. More moves coming? Hawks addressing lots of issues with these moves. Got more money to work with, net front presence, younger, bigger, a back up goalie. Murphy blocks lots of shots like Hammer. Now if Murphy is a better puck handler and faster then they also addressed the ability for a defenseman to skate the puck through the neutral zone which seemed to be a big problem in Rd. 1 this year. Sucks about Hossa, awesome 2 way player. Panarin's days were numbered. As exciting as he was with Kane the Hawks weren't going to be able to re-sign him and he wasn't a good 2 way player Is Campbell on his way out ? I noticed Soxpride18 didn't have him in his defensive pairings. Any future moves what to look for ? Maybe more speed ?
  10. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 07:42 AM) A half season of good production does not make him worth a massive extension. I'd ride him out of the cheap and see if he can keep this up. What is the rush anyways? Even as a big Avi supporter this makes the most sense. Avi right now is a comet streaking through the universe but comets can crash , As much as I want to believe he has turned a corner an extension is a whole other animal . Common sense and business sense says wait.
  11. Hanson looks like the best bunter on the team. Love the speed lineup with Engel , Hanson, Anderson add Moncada and that's 4 legit burners with Avi not too far behind.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) 21 homers in less than 200 at bats. His dad was lucky to hit that many his entire career. Why is it in the last 2 years NY amd LA have got the HR mashing rookies ? No wonder the Sox drafted a bunch of guys with power potential. Watching Bellinger swing the bat makes my back hurt. That is one violent yet awesome swing.
  13. OK is this the forum where I confess to being a huge Supernatural fan and apologize for it ?
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 04:57 AM) Stephen Furst - actor best known as Flounder in Animal House, 63 Was just thinking about him yesterday after seeing The Book of Mormon at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. The goofy character Elder Arnold reminded me of him .
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) Fine, it just wasn't a very good film...it's one of those that you can instantly forget (except for Michael Rooker) and not the kind of film you watch every year on cable t.v., let's say, like Gladiator or Bull Durham/Major League. Better than Suicide Squad and Superman vs. Batman, sure. I'd watch Ant-Man and Doctor Strange again over it as well. Something just didn't feel earned...maybe it was Kurt Russell's character. Maybe the soundtrack was just off compared to the first film. It's hard to pinpoint. When you watch Wonder Woman, the higher plane that movie is on just can't be compared. Maybe because it's so refreshing to see a female driven story, and because Cat Woman and Elektra were huge fiascos. It's just the perfect movie for this moment in history. I was totally surprised with the Aliotta , Haynes and Jeremiah song "Lake Shore Drive" being in the soundtrack. I actually remember that song but totally thought it was a regional Chicago area type hit. I remember AH&J opening for Styx way back in the day. Made me think someone from Chicago area was involved in picking the soundtrack. Did LSD even make the top 40 anywhere outside of Chicago ? Or perhaps the Star Lord or his mother character were from Chicago or Midwest. Don't remember where he was abducted from or how much info about his mother was revealed.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 08:08 PM) MOVE HIM TO CENTER I agree he should be tried there while at the same time not giving up on him as an infielder. Just makes sense to me to have positional versatility in an age when guys who can hit and play multiple positions are extremely valuable and coveted.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 07:17 PM) Romero appears to be the one guy they can count on. He had Ozuna down 0-2 and on the 3rd pitch threw heat right down the pipe. MLB Network (specifically Plesac ) calling it something like dead brain heavers. Just rear back and throw as hard as you can without thinking. Of course that's why you have a catcher so Weiters can share the blame.
  18. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 04:11 PM) You have to give them the benefit of the doubt be it fair or unfair because frankly they aren't going anyplace until ownership changes. So exactly what are fans supposed to do? Regarding Avi, to me, a half season of genuine excellence doesn't make up yet or erase the uncertainty of two and a half seasons of being out of shape, being a butcher in the outfield and not having a lot of good baseball instincts. I hope he can keep it going. If he can play well (not insanely well) next season I'll be converted...but not yet I'm afraid. Not sure I'd say Avi was out of shape . He tore his labrum and came back rather quickly. Now all reports we have heard say he worked very hard to come back ahead of schedule. Let's think about how that happens. I would have to surmise that the key was strengthening the shoulder. How does one do that ? Most likely a lot of it is weight lifting. It's likely he strengthened that shoulder , but possibly bulked up too much through his upper body perhaps neglecting flexibility. He ended up losing mobility in the outfield and in his swing . I 'd say he was muscle bound more than out of shape. Once he lost the weight in his upper body he loosened up his swing and improved his speed and agility. Now granted we have also heard he improved his diet as he matured so yes, he was probably carrying some excess fat too. In conclusion it's possible the post injury Avi wanted to feel less vulnerable to injury and stronger so ate and bulked up to achieve that. The weight loss was just getting him back to pre injury conditioning.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) It's a Curse most White Sox fans have. A guy like Avi has a great year, and it comes back to he isn't this, he is what he was. A guy like Q has struggles, and it's the new him. He will never be what he was. The longer Avi keeps hitting, the closer we come to the end of it's just a mirage talk. He won't hit .340. But I think he can maintain a much better than average BABIP. His last 450 PA, he is hitting over .300 with an OPS over .850. Yep. There were a lot of non believers in Q when he first started doing good. It's come full circle now.
  20. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 08:39 AM) See, Avi's Rod Carew-esque Babip has lead to irrational exhuberance, such as calling him a "middle order bat." Or recalling KW's unadulterated BS of calling Avi's potential as "30-30." Now, drop his Babip to a league average Babip, or even slightly above average, and Avi's a below average player, at best. Re-signing him would be insanity, IMO. I still find it funny when people talk about BABIP. Growing up with just batting average I ask myself why not just say Rod Carew-esque batting average ? Anyone hitting .337 is going to have a high BABIP.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 05:24 AM) After winning 4 of 5, they are on a pace to win between 73 and 74 games. The team sucks. Parts will proabably be sold off, and more losing will occur. Reality is they have no chance this year even with others playing as bad as they can play and the White Sox playing better than anyone could have imagined. But for the most part, they are far more interesting to watch than I was anticipating. It will get a lot more interesting once we see who they trade and who they call up. With a ton of home games left it would be really wild if the Sox somehow stayed in contention. It's possible but depends who they trade. If they wreck the bullpen things will get a lot worse. That great record when leading after 6 innings will plummet. What is it now 24-0 when leading after 6 ?
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 09:12 PM) He's 26 years old. This might be the real Avi. Wow. I'm assuming you are high on all the minor leaguers that are projected to be good someday. You like anybody on the big league roster not named Anderson? Exactly. Tough tough crowd. It's mid June and he's got a ton of RBI and hitting .325. Congrats, Avi. Keep it up, sir. .337 now and recently was .343 .
  23. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 08:53 PM) I haven't gotten to watch as many games this year as I have in previous years, but I don't see anything that stands out. Hmm I don't know that .458 batting average against left handers that leads the league doesn't stand out to you ? How about that he's also leading the league in 3 hit games ? Any way so what kind of bet can we make about him finishing at .300 ?
  24. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 05:44 PM) The Sox have the 14th best RD in MLB. That only accelerates the rebuild. Guys that you'd like to produce either for trade or long term value -- they are. Davidson probably isn't a MLB regular but he could certainly be a guy you have 200-300 PA a year to while backing up 1B/LF/3B/DH, mostly against LHP. If he can hit .250 in MLB despite his K rate. He's a keeper. The power is there. It appears the Sox have good organizational depth in the IF now. Really good actually, especially for the Sox. 12 of his HR's are against righties and he's hitting .250 against them with a .573 SLG and .860 OPS . I'd say that's good enough to be a regular.
