  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) He has fanned at least 10 seven times in his career, and 5 of his last 9 starts. His ascent to ace is happening. What will be interesting is what their plans are for him. 4 years of control after this year. Next year is a throw away, a lot will have to go right for 2019 to be close to the same. Do they trade him for prospects? This is just same old, same old for Rodon. He pitched lights out in the 2nd half for each of the last 2 season. Now if he could put 2 good halves together we have an ace. This isn't a knock against him. It is often how young pitching develops. Usually takes a few years . Just a cautionary tale to not expect the studs in the minors to come up and be instant stars. Injuries and inconsistency always rear their ugly heads.
  2. Nicky doing as good as we could have hoped for through 5 games .
  3. How much longer can the Sox bullpen keep the Red Sox from winning ? I say it ends this inning.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) Mine is still acting up a little bit. Sometimes I can get on, sometimes I can't. Tell the truth ... did anybody the last few days have the name "Greg" pop into their heads at any point. Such as: "My gawd I'm glad I get a break from Greg." Or "My gawd I miss Greg." You were mentioned on the Sox Facebook page.
  5. iRght now is the 1st time in like 4 days I've been able to get on.
  6. Another thing I liked about this win is there were no bunts in the come back and a few steal attempts. I've lately been advocating more stealing over bunting because the lack of steals really has been appalling. Steals are exciting and bunting is boring and when you have speed in a rebuild you need to let those guys put some pressure on the pitcher, make him throw more fastballs to our youngsters since sliders, change ups and curves are death to developing hitters.
  7. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 07:22 PM) I would think Kopech has one, at max, two starts left. 50-60 inning increase is a lot to handle for a 21 year old arm. Only reason I would give him 2 more starts and not 1 is he seems to be clicking recently, perhaps due to some minor adjustments, and you would want him to get more reps in with those adjustments. I have a theory . Might not be a good one . I mean making some kind of adjustment is certainly more plausible . He always seems like a max effort type of guy . More of a thrower than a pitcher. Now with perhaps his arm not as strong he's becoming more of a pitcher knowing that he just can't throw it by guys. It would be interesting to look at his fastball stats from earlier in the year to now. Is he throwing as many ? Is it just as fast now as earlier in the season ? If he is throwing less fastballs what is taking it's place ? More change ups or another pitch?
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 08:30 PM) Another Matt fan here? Cool. Two in the club. Good job Mr. Davidson. Another home run, 22, creeping u closer to 30 and another game-winning hit for a wretched ballclub. Since I've been convinced by the board that Matt is nothing, I looked up if he's already earned his MLB pension. Answer is yes. Good for matt. Rule says: "MLB players must play 43 days in the majors to earn a minimum $34,000 annual pension plan. Just one day in the majors gets them lifetime healthcare coverage. After 10 years in the big leagues, benefits grow to $100,000 annually." No matter what a free 34,000 a year and lifetime healthcare; not a bad start to go with his minimum salary of 500,000 or so. Keep it truckin Matt. Prove 'em all wrong. There are also things to like about Davidson besides the power, He does use all fields. He is not strictly a pull hitter . He also made adjustments that have obviously paid off in his hit tool. He may never get the K rate below 25% but I think he'll become a more selective hitter as he learns the league. HR's still are the most effective way to get runs .
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) Good victory over the Blue Jays; looks like the fans were having fun during the comeback and watching the walk-off ninth. Shields sucks again, but ... Matt blasts No. 22 and raps a game-winning single up the middle. Abreu comes through. Moncada avoids serious injury according to the X-rays. Fun times at Guaranteed Rate Field tonight for the fans who watched some summer Monday night baseball. Sox fever; catch it. Beautiful win.You could see there could be a chance at a win after that Abreo volley to Hanson to end the Jays 9th. Weird how things work out. Do the Sox come back if Sanchez and Hanson don't replace Moncada and Garcia ? Probably not.
  10. QUOTE (Username @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 07:55 AM) Red Sox really didn't get much. Makes me feel better about the Swarzak return. Or perhaps you mean the Mets didn't get much in return for Addison Reed ?
  11. Anyone think if multiple rotation spots open that Jordan Stephens has a shot to be called up ? He is 24 and last year pitched 141 innings but only 60 so far this year but has been pretty damn good at AA. I know it's a long shot due to many factors .
  12. Losing sucks but you have to believe in the process. The process requires lots and lots of patience. If you are young patience is easy . If you are old and want to see the Sox get in the playoffs and have a shot at another World Series it is harder. Reinsdorf falls in the second category and supposedly it took a lot to convince him to rebuild. Anyone who advocates a near .500 record by bringing up prospects next year really has no clue how many really good players it takes to make the playoffs and how long it takes some young players to pitch many innings or develop over time like Moose or Avi. Aaron Judge was a K machine the last few years.No one on here believed in Leury Garcia until he started cutting down on the K's . You could probably look at All Star teams and find more players that took 2-3 years playing at the MLB level to become All Stars than instant success stories. even more so on the pitching side. Moncada has a long way to go before he becomes elite and there's an equal if not better chance he never becomes elite. Just let the top prospects prove their worth at the upper levels . Hell our best prospects are in A ball . Look at how bad our minor league teams are. Sure some guys will get a shot next year. Lopez , maybe Giolito, Jordan Stephens , a crap load of OF suspects but expecting them to make major contributions to anything but their own development is expecting way too much.
  13. Shouldn't it be Mandick in the quotes since Mendick is the last name ?
  14. There was outrage at the time for a reason. I don't think Lip or Thad are off base at all. I am constantly amazed when a poster like Thad is given s*** for what he believes when most of his facts about being a losing organization are correct. Thad didn't start this thread but he has a right to voice his opinion even if we all know his opinion already. He admitted that adding players might have helped or might not have helped but giving up when that close should not be an option. All we as fans want is to know the front office wants to win and will fight to win. White Flag implies surrender and that's exactly what it was.
  15. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 11:59 AM) Of course, power hitters strike out, and that's fine. However, little guys like Madrigal might be better served forgetting about hitting homers. I understand all of your points and recognize that the game has changed. That does not negate the point regarding choking up. It didn't seem to hurt Bonds' and he was the definition of a "power hitter". At any rate, don't mind me. I'm just a "dinosaur". Much about the game is very different from when I first became a fan, in the 50's. Perhaps there is just no longer any place in the game, for a hitter like "Little Nellie". You are an amazing fan. There are literally no woman on this board posting besides you and you are still talking baseball in your 70's ? with a bunch of new age analysts. Loving the history of the game is why I like Hawk Harrelson. How could I not miss hearing about guys like Ted Williams or Joe Dimaggio from a guy who experienced much of it first hand ? You are no dinosaur . You are a rare gem or a fine wine. Your perspective is much appreciated.
  16. Lots of good baseball discussion here. Optimism vs. Realism( pessimism?) . Personally I can see both sides as I think most of us can. My head tells me to go with realism. Prospects take time , some don't even make it. Imagine ss2k5 being wrong and we aren't even winning anything by 2020. That side of the argument hasn't even been discussed. I mean basically you are all saying there will be success and it's just a matter of when. Hell Moncada already worries me. As good as his eye is he does seem to be too passive and since he does have such a good eye and swings at strikes why is his swing and miss so prevalent? He also gets called out a lot . He needs to earn some pitches are too close to take and are there holes in his swing ? Even with a guy like Davidson K'ing as much as he does and not walking much I am generally pleased with his power and batting average hovering around .240 compared with how hopeless he was in the minors. Anyway I am a sucker for young players and my heart often dictates how much I see them succeeding, This is just going to be a tough road to hoe and the roster will be changing constantly. Guess what I am trying to say is hope for the best prepare for the worst and enjoy the roller coaster ride along the way as much as you can.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) Not top 10 at midseason...I win You said won't likely be anyone NEAR top 10 . 13 plus another player doesn't qualify ? LOL I think I won.
  18. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) Jesus this game needs to be sent somewhere for reviewal against this ump, Anderson actually showing control of the zone and gets rung up on a ball 6 inches outside Yea if you go by the pitch tracker on WGN I've seen pitches high , outside and inside that showed as balls called strikes for Tomlin. That one to Abreu was ridiculously outside, I know the Sox players are bad but Tomlin shouldn't have a no hitter going with ton of K's .

Of course I like him because the Sox have had so few LH productive bats and his strong and accurate arm. Very likely it won't be anyone near top 10 #5 before season , #13 at time of trade plus another player w/ the Sox paying money. I'll take this as near a top ten in a system.
  20. Where's the Tanking Ugly t -shirts when you need one ? Based on the 1983 White Sox slogan of Winning Ugly for you youngsters.
  21. Gillaspie falls right in line with the recent Sox M.O.of power and OBP.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 06:36 PM) Lyle Mouton! That's it !
  23. Mendick 3/3 2 2b 2BB and 4 RBI Yelmison Peralta 6.2 innings 1 hit 0R 8 K 1 BB for Kanny 22 years old from the Dominican .
