The " Tank" is dead . Let there be Light !
Apparently the players are just as bummed out about Kopech as we are.

Rebuild= Epic Fail
Might be nice if you said what you mean by this . Yes they did and ... ? Did it work out ? Not really . Doesn't mean it's a bad idea since the contract was cheap So what I seem to be getting from you is don't go into the veteran bargain bin even on the cheap and also don't sign anyone good for big money too ? Let's look back at our old argument of me wanting Mike Moutaskas this year. I wanted him because he was under 30 good LH power bat filled a need at 3rd base also because he was cheap and could be flipped. Now I don't know if the Sox signed him if it would have been for just 1 year for 6.5 mill like the Royals or more. Let's say it would've been for 1 yr and $7M. You didn't want him because the Sox would have to give up a 2nd round pick and wanted to see what Yolmer could do at 3rd base. The Sox picked Steele Walker another OF in a crowded OF picture for the Sox many years away from the big leagues if he can make it that far. So he was flipped by the Royals for 2 guys. Brent Phillips a guy who could've given some competition for Adam Engel . Phillips probably plays CF just as well if not better than Engel has a cannon for an arm is younger than Engel and has decent upside, He also had a very good season in AAA. The other guy they got was Jorge Lopez who was also a AAA pitcher who the Brewers had pitching in relief. The Royals converted him to a starter and called him up. Well he just pitched 8 innings of perfect baseball against the Twins. Small sample size but has to have a pretty good arm to do that especially after being in relief all year. I pretty sure I'd like that return that the Royals got better than Steele Walker at least for the time being. I know that the Sox could've traded Moustakas to another team and got different players but they have traded a lot with the Brewers recently so who knows, maybe they would've got a similar return. A couple of decent MLB ready players would've helped the rebuild a lot more than Steele Walker since the Sox are weak at the AAA level.

Rebuild= Epic Fail
I haven't decided if I like the idea of trading him or not depends on when and the return. If it was this winter. I'd like a return of a strong offensive and defensive 3b prospect in AA or AAA and filler . Someone like Austin Riley of the Braves system. Camargo has had a very good season at 3dr for the Braves so Riley might be blocked. No idea if he can slot in anywhere else there but if the Sox could get him for Rodon . I'd take it.

Rebuild phase 2: Free agent spending
It;s a stretch to say "if he was healthy he'd get $150M. (assuming $25 for 6 years aged 33-38 seasons) The last 33 yr old I can find that signed at or above $150M was Miguel Cabrera for way more than $150 and that contract might turn out to be the dumbest contract in baseball .So far the Tigers got one year of Cabrera operating at his best. He is a shell of his former self because of the injuries that accompany his age. No one want's to pay players based on past performance anymore .Anyone giving Donaldson more than $50M is taking a huge risk. I think he'd be lucky now to get a $50M 3 year offer. I can see 2 years at $30-35M as something he might have to accept. Look at what a considerably younger Moustakas had to settle for last season.

Baseball in America on Saturday night 9-8 as Angels take on our Sox
Possibly best player of his generation . Has a lot of competition for best hitter in baseball history.

Rebuild phase 2: Free agent spending
I said nothing about an MVP season just a bounce back which means a healthy .800ish OPS and .340ish OBP. Not sure what you mean by sabotaging a season since if he comes discounted its not likely to sabotage anything. If he finishes the year healthy but not strong with the bat it might be even better since his health next year probably is tied directly to his bat and fielding. This year health but a bad bat could just means he's rusty.

Rebuild phase 2: Free agent spending
Nope what other people drop is not whats in my play book. If he get's $20M (unless its just 1 year ) he's out of reach. But I'll be shocked if he does. Nothing last winter indicates older players will get much. The odd one here and there will. Maybe he is one of them maybe not. No sense discussing price now just have to see how the market reacts and how he finishes the year.

Rebuild phase 2: Free agent spending
Can you quickly explain why you think there is 0 need for Donaldson ? What if he leads the Tribe to the World Series ? He has to be highly motivated and needs to perform in order to get a decent contract over the winter and even if he doesn't perform well he still has to be considered a decent bounce back guy, has no QO attached to him , might come cheaper than we think.

The Stopgap plan for 2019-20
Just so you know Brantley hasn't played any CF the last 3 years and very very little since 2012. Jones is pretty much on life support as a CF and as a productive major leaguer having posted just a .3 WAR this year. Pollock's been pretty injury prone and probably also should be a corner OF. Marwin Gonzales puts the super in super utility plays mostly LF .SS , 2B,!B and very little 3B and even less CF as to be a non factor there. Cargo is the role model for great splits in Coors not so great way from Coors. Donaldson will fit right in as The Bringer of Rain. He might be a good bounce back guy and a useful trade chip if he can stay healthy. But if anyone offers him 3 years forget it. Could always use the LH power of a guy like Moustaskas. Outside of Brantley and possibly Gonzales none of these guys should get a qualifying offer.

Kopech has a torn UCL, TJS recommended
The Cubs and the Sox have always been conservative with Cease since he was drafted in the 6th round and given a hefty bonus for a 6th rounder who was about to have Tommy John surgery. It's pretty much the whole reason fangraphs doesn't give him a ringing endorsing. He is kind of perceived as somewhat frail.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
Well the good run might be over. Good news for the draft. Sigh.

The " Tank" is dead . Let there be Light !
The universe just told us " You can't have nice things! " The light has now been covered by a dense fog. ( Kopech torn UCL for future reference to this thread). Sigh.

I don't think anyone should be angry at all. Don't direct anger at anyone, It's just so reactionary and judgmental . We have no idea why it happened . It just did.Pitching a baseball is highly stressful on the arm . Throwing over hand is not a natural thing. Find some inner peace and hope the young man can rcover well enough to have a great career. Wish him a speedy recovery. Imagine he was your friend and this happened. Everybody wants to blame someone but in reality it's just part of the game or the human experience. Crying about the rebuild or looking for blame is just so selfish. The last thing we should care about is how it has affected us.

I wish Michael Kopech a successful surgery and recovery and I'm glad he will be getting a ML salary during his recovery time. As a fan it sucks losing the extra year of control and sucks for the rebuild. But being a Sox fan for a long long time has told me to be more concerned with the individual who is hurt. It's his hopes and dreams that are on the line here , not mine .As a Sox fan of many years I expect things to go wrong. It's why I constantly remind everyone about injuries and flops. There's no need for outrage or crying over the rebuild. Good luck Michael Kopech.

2018 White Sox catch-all thread

The HR Chain
I have a T shirt designed in my head just make the chain and logo as close to the real thing as possible in size and color but make the chain part look as though it is around your neck. Since it's mostly silver the tee color should be black , No words are needed.

Todd Frazier Must C
There was another incident about a week ago where a catcher made a tag play with his mitt and the ball was in his hand . The ump called him out and the Nationals (the team that the call went against) had their people look at it and decided not to challenge . Their replay people missed the fact that the ball was in the catchers hand not the mitt too,

But he hasnt even been given a chance to find that out yet. I can tell you one thing . They hit 93 real good. Why screw with his speed before you find how it'll work on this level ?

Kopech Day IV- Gamethread
I doubt anyone told them hey guys Kopech will be throwing slower tonight to work on command. They guess like we all do.

Kopech Day IV- Gamethread
Why would he focus on command by throwing slower when his command was fine throwing harder in the minors his last 7 starts ?
