Lots of good play by the 4th line, Versteeg, Vermette, Crawford, all the defensemen and Toewes and Hossa for their steady 2 way play.

Let's play a game, shall we?

6/13 Sox @ Rays 3:10 CT CSN
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) Was barbecuing chicken while watching game and man this was disappointing loss. I just got home from work and it does suck when Conor hits a bomb to give the Sox a late lead and the BP coughs it up. I see Putnam gave up 2 hits and a walk . Don't really understand why when its late in the game he's not pulled after allowing 2 base runners or even one when you have a whole bullpen full of guys you can play match up with an out at a time.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 11:21 AM) It was definitely a year too early. There were too many holes in the team. Trying to scrape your way to the second wild card is not a good strategy. Build a sustainable winner. Actually it was repeatedly suggested on the likes of Fangraphs that the White Sox would not have a successful season despite all their signings. And if people predicted the Sox to have a poor season amongst vast predictions of a good season, they kind of deserve to say I told you so. Still don't understand the year too early comments. I know it's your opinion and all but is Sox management supposed to sit on its hands with an ideal situation in front of them ? They needed help and got help . With the rarity of Sox playoff appearances what's wrong with wanting to make the playoffs ? You can't fill every hole in one off season . They filled a few and who's to say they won't add even more next year or at the trade deadline. Maybe it's time you explained what you would've done this past off season with all the room to add salary and not having to give up a 1st rounder while also keeping in mind they have to put butts in the seats . What the Sox did was fine and it also stimulated the prospective season ticket buyers. If you think the Samardzija or other moves weren't good what should've the Sox added ? How much should the player payroll have been ? Hahn has repeatedly said they are trying to build a sustained winner . Were his moves contradictory to that sentiment ? He didn't sign anyone over 3 years except Robertson and it's quite possible that some of the Sox pitching prospects will come of age in that 1-3 year period adding to the sustainability.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) The projections didn't like us because we had huge offensive holes at catcher and second base, with question marks elsewhere, horrendous defence/baserunners and huge holes at 4 and 5 in the rotation and just an okay bullpen. I wouldn't say that's anything close to great on paper. I called it as an under .500 team preseason. I'd put that more on the fact that we've assembled a team of historically poor defenders/declining players rather than bad coaching. I don't think it was a year too early at all. Look at the parity in the league . Hovering around .500 puts you in the playoff picture. Any team 10 games over .500 at the end of the year probably makes the playoffs. The Sox now are trying to rely on having better defense to support the pitching with Beckham and Sanchez and LaRoche getting a bit more playing time at 1st. There are just certain times that a team that spends like the Sox have to show a clear effort to make major improvements and that was having a lot of room to add salary and the ability to do it without giving up a 1st round draft choice. Those situations do not come up often together. Make improvements along the way or finally be a 2nd half riser ,get in the playoffs and let the pitching carry us. It certainly wouldn't be the 1st time that's happened

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 07:21 AM) Three pitches, I think, is the ultimate requirement for consistently being able to pitch well deep into the game, because it gives you a weapon for the third time through the lineup. The other night we saw him go fastball/slider almost exclusively the first time through, start adding the change in tough spots the second time through (and honestly it didn't look real good at first), and then start to lean on the change as a wipeout the third time through (and it looked fantastic). I'm starting to wonder if there's a correlation between those "one bad inning" guys (like Edwin Jackson, John Danks, etc.) and the number of legitimate pitches they have. Maybe if you only have two good pitches, you're constantly going to be at risk for a meltdown the third time through the order. You know as well as I do that it's not just the pitches . It's the location and the difference in speed between them and how well you outfox the hitter. Not only making the hitter think about which pitch he's getting but in what location. Danks has enough pitches just not the command or the difference in speed between them.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) That Chris Carter double and Bonifacio throw are things that would only happen with him on the mound, though Bonifacio won't be playing 2nd any time soon any more.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) Crawford won us that one. I'd like to see us get a win where it really feels like we win in all phases. Crawford and Keith are the ony 2 reasons the Hawks won. Tampa Bay is really slick with the puck. Maybe too slick for their own good sometimes.

1st Sox pitcher ever to K at least 10 in4 straight starts. 1st player since Randy Johnson in 2001 to K at least 12 in 3 straight starts. 4straight starts Sale has had at least 20 swings and misses. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last pitcher to accomplish that was Randy Johnson, from July 31-Aug. 15, 2002, for the D-backs. 1st pitcher since Johan Santana in 2004 to string together at least four straight starts of 10-plus strikeouts and no more than two walks. Chris Sale joined baseball legend Sandy Koufax as the only pitcher in the modern era with three straight sets of 12 strikeouts and one run allowed or fewer.

Kane getting hurt was like a blessing in disguise. They got a cap exception and used it on their additions like Vermette, Timmonen, and Desjardins and unlike the regular season it's now paying off in the playoffs.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) Tampa is gonna have to open it up a little and that should help the Hawks. They played not to lose and it cost them. I'm really surprised the highest scoring team in the league just changed its whole image like that. A few shutouts of the Rangers and they're all buying into ride the hot goalie and keep the lead safe. You have to bury the Hawks to beat them . You keep it close and you're just asking for trouble.

Official NHL 2014-15 Thread
With the Hawks trailing 1-0 and around 7 minutes left in the 3rd period I decided to break out my secret weapon . The weapon is the song Do Ya by ELO. I originally started using this song to celebrate a Johnny ODuYA goal in the Finals in one of the years the Hawks won the Cup. I broke it out in game 6 against the Ducks and the Hawks scored the go ahead goal the song after it finished playing. I made sure this time that the commercial had ended before I started playing it. Just as the song was finishing ( do ya do ya want my love, do ya do ya want my love wooo ohhhh ) the Hawks tied it up. Less than 2minutes later the Hawks got the lead. No I'm not superstitious at all

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 30, 2015 -> 09:44 PM) Dont get me wrong, Ill take it all day, but how was that kicked in goal allowed? The rule states that there has to be a distinct kicking motion. There wasn't one. You are allowed to redirect the puck with your skate as long as you don't kick at it. If you saw the slo-mo replay it was actually the goalie who screwed up after he made the initial save . The rebound dropped right in front of him and he wanted to get it out of there so he swept it with his stick right into the path of the on rushing Hossa. Hossa already had his skates turned to slow himself down . In real time its like a half second from the sweep by the goalie to the puck hitting Hossa's skate. He didn't even have time to think of "kicking " the puck.
