  1. QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2015 -> 08:25 PM) That is a great point and I"ve never thought about that before. I've see it so many times it just made it impossible for me not to notice that. It makes a lot of OF's look awkward when really it's just the fact the fence isn't a flat surface so Sox OF's might not ever be considered great denfensive OF's who score DRS points by robbing HR's . The only way to rob a HR at the Cell is to stay about a foot away from the fence when you jump and go straight up but that's really hard to do because the OFer is usually drifting towards the fence and his momentum when he jumps takes him right into that situation I described .
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) How bad was Melky's drop of the home run? That ball was over the fence to start with and Melky did a helluva job getting his glove on it, Actually it went right in his glove but popped out on impact. There's a reason why you don't see too many spectacular HR robbing catches at the Cell even though the fence height is pretty ideal for those kind of catches and that's because of how the fence is. Since the picnic area is there ,the wall isn't flat but there's the chain link fence then the padding on the top which prevents fielders from getting much height on their jump. Usually their shoulder hits the padding and their body goes into the fencing which bends them and prevents them from getting that arm extension .
  3. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 5, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) Yep, 7 feet, compared to average of 5 feet 10 inches. Is that recent info because I found an article that said the same thing and it was from 2011. Most pitcher should be around 80-100% of their height. Robertson is way beyond 100% and that does add "virtual" velocity to his pitch speed.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 5, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) He's got to be able to make that play, although I agree it may not have been the best time to do it... He's got a pretty good and accurate arm unlike when ever Big Frank threw I'd cringe.
  5. Boy , am I glad Kane healed quickly !
  6. Finally a good start and timely hitting by Conor produces a lead and the bullpen was lights out .
  7. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 5, 2015 -> 07:47 PM) Release point I think it's more about how well he hides the ball. Keeps it in his glove then he has a very quick arm action so he doesn't give the hitters much time to see the ball once it leaves his glove.
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 5, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) HERES THE GUY I LIKE WATCHING PITCH But it's unsustainable !
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 5, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) What you "already know" is conjecture without any support. You've been watching carefully so you know that the game has changed, so I don't have to tell you that. No the support is experience. You haven't been telling me anything I don't know. Avi had a very high BA in the minors. What makes anyone so sure that after a few years experience in the majors he can't do the same thing no matter how unlikely it seems ? The guy probably has about 1 full year in the ML now. When he has established himself then you can use BABIP to tell me he will level off to career norms but right now he hasn't established any career norms so please gracefully allow my fandom to imagine he can hit very well in the coming years.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 5, 2015 -> 07:06 PM) It all evens out though. For instance, we should see plenty of improvement from Adam Eaton who could serve as a catalyst for the offense in front of Melky/Abreu/LaRoche. That'd better serve us than Avi hitting singles in front of the crappy bottom of the order. And again you're not telling most of us something we don't already know. I have been watching baseball for close to 50 yrs and not casually watching . Carefully watching. The guys sucking now will get better and guys doing well will drop but I take no enjoyment thinking I'm so smart to predict that. It's baseball 101 until a guy like Avi puts in a few more years so we can get a clearer picture of what to expect from him.
  11. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 5, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) The whole point of this is that the statistic tells you it's due to drop. You're essentially saying "I don't understand why this high thing is about to become lower so I'll say it's good when it's high and bad when it's low". Some people don't give a rat's arse about that. You're just basically raining on our parade of seeing the one Sox player with a high BA. Let us enjoy the one good high average guy while it last. Yes it's due to drop thank u very much . All we hear is this guy is sucking and the one guy not sucking you're saying wait he will suck. Some of you guys just can't just watch and enjoy the game because it's baseball and the Sox. That's enough for some of us without repeatedly hearing it's a mirage.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 5, 2015 -> 06:14 PM) Great job Conor!!! There is the swing we loved last year That was the sweet swingin' Conor Gillaspie .
  13. QUOTE (Condor13 @ May 5, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) Eaton/ JB (6 pts): Melky Cabrera (3 pts): Jose Abreu (1 pts): MHizzle85, LTBF Adam LaRoche (2 pts): Avisail Garcia (3 pts): Condor13 Alexei (4 pts): CalisoxfanviaSWside Conor/ Bacon (4 pts): Flowers/Soto (3 pts): Micah Johnson/Emilio (6 pts): Bench (8 pts): Jose Abreu Noone ( 1,000,000 pts ): hi8is
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) Probably the best 60 minutes they have played all year. I was watching the game when it was scoreless early on thinking the Hawks were skating and moving the puck well. I became very hopeful when they scored the shortie . The Hawks were always among the leagues leaders in SH goals when they were winning Cups.
  15. I'm as disappointed as anyone in the dismal play . I was hoping for more defense in the off season but the offense and starting pitching has been almost as bad as the D. I think the hitting and starting pitching will come just hope when it does the bullpen can be just as solid as it is now. I think ButterParque mentioned we are losing just the same way we did last year but we had a decent amount of leads last year with a lineup that wasn't as solid as this year's model is supposed to be and the bullpen blew those leads. So I don't think it's quite the same. Once the starting pitching and offense produce some leads we'll find out how good this team can be.
  16. QUOTE (LDF @ May 3, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) and who were you referring it to?? The whole thread, talking about who to trade already . Can we at least let this team gel before we declare the season over ?
  17. Where's a face palm emoticon when you need one?
  18. And Blackhawks ahead 2-0 after 2 with a shortie by Toews and a late 2nd period goal by Kane after a turnover in the neutral zone and a great pass by Keith springing Kane on a semi breakaway which he snapped by Dubnyk on the blocker side.
  19. Do the Sox also lead the lead in DP's ?
  20. QUOTE (Butter Parque @ May 2, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) You offer it to Gardenhire. He supposedly wants to get back into managing. Offer him the job immediately, if he says no, move on. Gardenhire seems to be the flavor of the month since fathom started saying it. What ever happened to Dave Martinez ? Everybody was hot for him at one time when he was Maddons bench coach.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ May 1, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) It's not on tv for quite a few folks tonight It was on NBCSN just like it always is until they switched to NHL network when NBCSN covered the OT between the Lightning and Canadians
  22. Surprisingly no posts on the Hawks 3-0 lead after 1 against the Wild. 3 goals on 1st 7 shots. Saad , Kane, Kruger with the goals.
  23. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) Connor will no longer be our 3B. Gonna put up one tomorrow with a countdown to the end of RV era Conor has one N like Condor think of it that way
