  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) Best scenario, Sanchez in the minors....Johnson proves himself, Bonifacio backs up everywhere/PR and Beckham is platoon 3B and occasionally at 2B (Bonifacio should get most of his ab's here and in the OF) and 3-5 games at SS, at MOST, for Gordo. Oops I forgot there is a thread about who's on second
  2. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) I am definitely up for the challegene. We just need the players that are committed to playing the game I always think I am committed to playing pick to click but I end up not playing it Take a look at those PTC threads you'll probably get a good idea how many people actually play consistently. And the prize would certainly be more motivating even if its just a bobblehead or 2 . Maybe something current picked up during game promotions.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) Must have read the writing on the wall. That's a good Ted Nugent song. Written by Meatloaf who wrote a few songs for Ted and also sang a song called Together on the same album as Writing on the Wall. ( Free For All , my personal fav of Nugent.)
  4. Better get all your arguments in fast . This is headed for the archives Still don't understand the most recent Sox news getting dumped in the archives so fast . But whatever .
  5. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) This is all I will say on this topic I'm done with it as I'm sick of being misrepresented and called a hater. I will put my money where my mouth is and bet a Micah B-Ref scholarship for anyone that will take me up on this bet. You can pick. Either you take the over on a 730 OPS (min 400 PA) or 1.5 fWAR. I lose I will gladly buy the sponsorship, link to your page with whatever message you want. I win, you do the same. Ha I understand where you are coming from and frankly it's quite understandable . I disagree but just because Sanchez has 2 years at AAA doesn't mean he's the better option .He's a couple years younger than Micah and he can afford to wait. Micah might have proved he's ready if it wasn't for the hamstring issue. I think the Sox are better off with another potentially dynamic player in a good lineup than going the safe route. Sanchez is just another step closer to Beckham in the food chain and who wants that ? Neither player has proved anything but the Sox can afford to not play it safe. If Micah flops then he can be sent to AAA. But if he succeeds watch out ! Can you say that about Sanchez ?
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) Wait we are taking one small incident and turning it a maturity problem? Come on man. No a series of observations from other posters about how Micah acts on the field ( of which I have none because I haven't seen it ). Read the thread man
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 05:41 PM) I don't know, I am definitely not a part of the political correctness police, but I wouldn't disseminate my views that could be be perceived as ignorant/offensive to sects of people including and not limited to women, homosexuals and Native Americans. If LoMo was making all of these comments on a forum and was a regular Joe like one of us I wouldn't raise an eyebrow but he's representing an organization and himself as a professional. His reputation is tainted by his immaturity and silly comments and now we are supposed to use his words as the basis of whether Johnson should start in AAA or in the MLB? Maybe if Morrison shut up for once he wouldn't have had so many growing pains. I don't know how much you know about Morrison but here's some insight on him: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_leagu...urn=mlb-wp15874 Regardless, in most cases, using one piece of testimonial evidence for the justification of a broader point just isn't sound rhetoric in my opinion. Just sayin' if a fireman was racist sexist and homophobic would you not listen to him if he told you how to put out a fire ?
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) Using testimonial evidence of how to cope with the emotions of being a baseball player from Logan Morrison isn't that far from using testimonial evidence from Rob Ford on how to be a mayor of a major city. Other than his disappointing career, all I know about Morrison is that he thinks women shouldn't breastfeed in public, he has choice words about homosexuals and he wishes he was Native American so he wouldn't have to pay taxes. The dude's a clown. A 24 year-old Micah Johnson with 0 service days in the MLB has more maturity than a 27 year-old LoMo with five years in big league ball. You're really grasping at any possible straws to make your Micah argument. Your feisty meter is on high I see. Just because you don't see eye to eye with Morrison's views does not make it impossibe for him to provide insight on something else that he is actually not ignorant on. Take off the Judge's robe and take a seat with the regular folks.
  9. Well Moises Sierra replaces Alex Rios in RF for the Royals .
  10. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) I think most of us hate the signing. It pisses me off he even has a chance to start somewhere I don't. Me and fathom were calling for it or at least mentioning it wasn't a bad fit. And it really isn't . You just have to forget it's Beckham . Think of him as Backup Infielder or his alias Bach Infelder .
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) I also like the tools... My concern is his ability to combat the inevitable big league struggles. If you watch him closely - any play on defense or at the plate that doesn't go his way leads to a very visible display of irritation. Normally, that's fine... It shows fire. With Micah thou, he reminds me of a toddler throwing a tantrum. My baseball sixth sense sees weakness and room for growth here. Yea those things have to be handled with an inner fire. The season is too long to let things bother you. Vow to do better then let it roll off your back.
  12. Just watched Scott Snodgress set down the Rangers 123 for the Angels with 2 choppers to short and a K of Choo.
  13. Micah 3-3 just got an infield single slow roller to 3rd.
  14. Final line for Danish 2.1 IP 3 H 2 R 2 ER 0BB 1 K
  15. 2 run double by Abreu after Micah walks and a wild pitch.
  16. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) Truly doesn't matter what you think, Carlos, sorry. You're about to learn the minor, but real, flipside of your choice of agents. No biggie. They only really need to wait 2-3 weeks. His agent is probably the one who told him to say he's ready now. Mo' money sooner for Rodon means more for Borass .Put pressure on the Sox to take him north and if he pitches well the whole spring makes it obvious the ony reason they won't bring him north is for that extra year. Trouble is the Sox would probably keep him down longer so it doesnt appear obvious what their intentions were. In a year you expect to compete Rodon's arm could be the difference between winning and losing the division. Either way though he should have an innings limit and if they want him fresher for the end of the year then they could limit his innings severely the first couple months of the season. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
  17. Quite the eulogy given by his son Charlie . http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/111...ends-at-funeral
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) If the Sox make the playoffs this year, it's going to be because of the strong arm of Beckham turning double plays. I guess we know who is the official White Sox whipping boy for the year. Seriously all this Beckham hate for a utility dude who didn't become what we all wanted him to be is a bit overboard. He's just another failed prospect in a long line of failed prospects. He'll either find his niche or be out of baseball soon enough.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 08:06 PM) Not sure you can be a goat when you have 42-8-5 I did qualify it a lot by saying BIT of a goat AT THE END. He's a great player no doubt but he didn't fninish when they needed him to. Ibaka was wide open on the wing on the airball. Jordan was known for being a great finisher but of course he missed his share of last second shots too but he also learned that with everyone keying on him defensively to trust his teammates to make last second shots .
  20. Great game. Didn't think the Bulls would get enough stops to pull it out. Westbrook a bit of a goat at the end with the airball and step out of bounds. He easily could'vee been called for a foul on the Moore 3 pointer also.
  21. sonovab**** ! Can't beleive an exhibition game that's been over for a few hours is blacked out here in the L.A. area on MLB Network.
  22. In another article referenced by SSS I'll give you this part: In The New Bill James Historical Abstract (The Free Press, 2000), James, the leading pioneer of baseball analytics, ranks Minoso as the 10th greatest left fielder of all time, ahead of Hall of Famers Billy Williams (11th), Ed Delahanty (12th), Joe Medwick (13th), Jesse Burkett (14th), Lou Brock (15th), Goose Goslin (16th), Ralph Kiner (18th), Fred Clarke (22nd), Zack Wheat (23rd), Jim Rice (27th), Joe Kelley (28th) and Heinie Manush (30th) James rates Minoso as the 91st best player of all time, writing: "Minoso didn't get to play in the Majors until he was 28 years old, but had a better career after 28 than almost any Hall of Fame left/right fielder. He had a .389 on-base percentage -- better than any of the other outfielders in this part of the rankings except Paul Waner (better than [Tim] Raines, Clemente, Al Simmons, [Willie] Stargell, [Al] Kaline, Ken Griffey Jr. For that matter, better than Willie Mays or Henry Aaron). Minoso hit for power, drove in 100 runs like clockwork, was a Gold Glove outfielder and one of the best baserunners of his time. Rate that group of outfielders in terms of power, defense, baserunning, batting average etc. and I think you'll see that Minoso more than holds his own. He led his league at various times in hits, doubles, triples, total bases, hit by pitch (in which he led ten times), sacrifice flies, stolen bases, stolen base percentage, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. He never won a batting title, but was second in hitting twice, in the top five, five times. He was a hustling, aggressive player, immensely popular with fans in both Cleveland and Chicago. Had he gotten to play when he was 21 years old, I think he'd probably be rated among the top 30 players of all time."
  23. Sorry if this was mentioned already but I hate seeing the Minoso thread sinking down the page because most of us never saw the man play and don't realize how truly gifted he was as a player and even moreso as a person. SSS writes 3 articles and has a podcast about his passing and his career. It is some of his best work and every Sox fan should read it as well as the others. http://www.southsidesox.com/2015/3/2/81314...o-rest-in-peace .
  24. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Mar 2, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) Also it's a solid move, considering Smith had a 1.5 million cap hit for next year. Liked him, but he was a decent guy on the PK, and that was about it. Need all the room they can get. And they need to get a little bigger and more physical.
